Chapter - 19

Sanskar moved back passing lip side smile to Swara.

Swara's heart fluttered when she saw his lips adorned with innocent smile.

No doubt he was the most handsome man she has ever seen till today. But more than his charm she was lost in his dark brown eyes. Those were the eyes of an innocent newborn baby.

Their trance was broken with the melody played in the background by Julia on her phone.

Your hand fits in mine like it's made just for me
But bear this mind, it was meant to be
And I'm joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks
And it all makes sense to me

I know you've never loved
The crinkles by your eyes when you smile
You've never loved your stomach or your thighs
The dimples in your back at the bottom of your spine
But I'll love them endlessly

I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if I do, it's you
Oh, it's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you
And all these little things

You can't go to bed without a cup of tea
And maybe that's the reason that you talk in your sleep
And all those conversations are the secrets that I keep
Though it makes no sense to me

I know you never loved the sound of your voice on tape
You never want to know how much you weight
You still have to squeeze into your jeans
But you're perfect to me

I won't let these little things slip out of my mouth
But if it's true, it's you
It's you, they add up to
I'm in love with you
And all these little things

They both swayed on the music forgetting the world around them.

Granny's eyes turned moist looking at the bond which was flourishing between them. She prayed for their togetherness in her mind to her Kanhaji.

Clapping sound of Granny & Julia broke their reverie and brought them back to reality.

'Shit what the hell I was doing?' Sanskar ruffled his hairs breaking their moment. 'This is not done.'

'What was that? I had lost my own self. How can I?' Swara shifted hair strand behind her ear, trying to calm her racing heartbeat.

"That was really made for each other performance. Love you both." Granny gave flying kiss with her both hands.

"Granny it's been too late. Let's go inside. You need to have your dinner and then medicines" Sanskar was back to his rigidity.

"I know... I know... I know. But we will do dinner together and then I have one more surprise for Swara"

Post dinner, as Granny had asked earlier, Swara and Sanskar entered in her room.

Granny asked Sanskar to take out one box from her walk-in closet.

"This is for you Swara. Your gift." Granny handed over on box.

"Granny you already did a lot for me. What is the need for this?"

"These are our Khandani Kangan's Swara. My mother passed them to me. I want you to carry forward this legacy" Granny opened the box which had heavy, diamond studded, ancient Rajsthani Kada's.

"No, Granny how can I take these? These are yours." Swara shook her head in denial. She immediately felt heavy in her heart with unknown burden.

"And you are mine." Granny caressed her hairs.

"Granny please no. I can't take these. Please." She passed them back.

"Is it because they are old? They are ancient and old fashioned." Granny's eyes filled with tears.

Sanskar looked at his grandmother. He was very aware what would have been going on in his grandmother's mind.

"No Granny. These are priceless. These are perfect representation of your memories, your values, your entire life. But these looks like very expensive. I just need your blessings." Swara's heart filled with remorse.

"And those all I want to pass it on to you" Granny made her wear one of the Kada. "You are the only one who have rights over them being daughter in law of Maheshwari Family. It's a blessings Swara from all our ancestors."

"Granny, I can't" Swara started crying hysterically. She was guilty of cheating, lying to this lady who was showering her abundant love over her.

"It's my wish to see these in your hands." Granny pleaded caressing Kangan's which she adorned on her hands.

"Take it Swara" Sanskar intervened for the first time. He blinked his eyes in assurance.

Swara looked at him in bewilderment. She could not understand why his eyes also turned moist.

"I know you will take care of these Kangan's as well as Sanskar." Granny kissed her forehead.

After making Granny sleep, they both returned to their room.

Swara sat on couch looking at Kangan's from her hands.

When Sanskar came back after freshening up, she went inside. After almost 30 minutes she came out and started going towards door.

Sanskar was working on his Mac sitting on bed when he saw Swara in the same attire.

"Where are you going?"

"To Julia Aunty"

"At this hour?"

"This necklace is tangled with my hairs."

He just nodded his head concentrating back on his work.

After 10 minutes Swara came back, and necklace was still on her neck.

'If I ask his help, he will surely lash out on me.' She entered again inside dressing room. 'But I cannot even sleep with this necklace. It is expensive what would happen if it broke down during sleep.'

Swara again started struggling with necklace.

"Can't do a simple work?" Sanskar's voice made Swara to raise her head. She could see him standing behind her from the mirror.

"I can manage" she scrunched her nose.

"Yes, I can see that from last one hour. Take off your hairs and hands."

"I don't need your help."

"Ok as you say so" He crossed his hands and stood there staring at her.

"Why don't you go and sleep?"

"This is my home, my room, my life. I will do whatever I want. So, stop ordering me."

"Order and me? Look who we have here?" she muttered.

"Sanskar Maheshwari"

Swara looked at him in puzzlement. She bit her lower lip to suppress her chuckle.

"Now if you are done with your struggle... can I try?"

After two minutes of long thought she nodded her head. She moved her hairs to her front.

Sanskar took a step and sorted out her hair strand from her necklace.

Swara's eyes moved towards mirror when Sanskar was engrossed in his work. He was careful not to touch her unnecessarily also not to hurt her by pulling her hairs.

When Sanskar touched her hairs, they were silky, smooth, soft. He fingers ached to ran over them which her suppressed focusing on his work.

He removed her necklace and gave it back to her.

"Sir you can keep it."

"I don't wear this shit."

"Since it's all done for the day. You can take this back. I have kept everything in those boxes. Even Granny's Kangans" She pointed towards couple of boxes.

"But why are you giving these back?" he could not understand.

"Sir, how can I take those? Those were just to convince Granny. They are expensive I cannot take them"

"But those are the gifts. And once I give, I don't take anything back."

"But Sir, I... I cannot take them. Please."

"I cannot take them either. If you want, throw this shit in dustbin. I don't care."

"How can you say this? These all are so expensive stuff. You should value money. And more than that these are Granny's Kangan's. Her sentiments are involved."

"Then why can't you keep them?"

"Because I am not the rightful owner of these. We are bounded in just a contract. These are your family's legacy. They should stay in your family."

"Enough. Not a word more. If you want, keep it, throw it, or do whatever you want. Don't tell me what to do or not. Family.... my foot."

"I am sorry. But Sir, these are expensive. I cannot take them. These will be burden on me. I already have enough to take more. It's against the values and upbringing given to me by parents."

"Granny gave them to you as her blessings"

"Her blessings, her love is the most precious and priceless gift for me. I don't need any materialistic symbol to cherish them. My memories with her, her love for me will remain in my heart till my last breath. I owe you that because of you I got opportunity to meet Granny. Thank you so much Sir. But still I cannot take them." Swara replied and took her cloths to move inside washroom for change.

Sanskar became statue while looking at her retiring figure.

'Is that old woman crazy that she wants me to wear those bangles? Those are just shit, old fashioned, jazzy. Look at me, Mrs. Maheshwari, the woman who is known as fashion icon, classiest woman of this country. I will not even gift those to my servants.' He remembered how his mother had thrown these Kangan's in dustbin.

He was small child, 8 years probably but still at the first opportunity he got, he had secured them and passed it back to his Granny. Even today he remembered how his Granny had shed tears that day.

'She understands values and sentiments. She gave importance to them instead of their monetary values.' His lips stretched in small smile.

He saw the set he gifted to her. It was for the first time he had done any jewellery shopping. He himself did not realize when he was selecting designs why Swara's face was flashing in front of his eyes.

'Sanskar, I want the costliest ring as my wedding band. After all, I would be titled as Mrs. Sanskar Maheshwari soon.' Serena's seductive voice rang in his ears.

'Swara is different.' He caressed the necklace which was in his hands.

He kept all her belongings in his electronic safe hoping that he would give them back to her one day.

After spending weekend with Granny, they both came back to their hidden married life.

"Sir, we have meeting at Renaissance Hotel with our client Mr. James Aldrins for Highway Project."

"Ok. Brief team about the project. Ask them to be ready."

"Sir there is one issue. Mrs. Brittany is on urgent leave."

"It's ok ask Swara to join me."

"Sure Sir."

Sanskar along with his team and Swara went to hotel. It was going to be an announcement of new highway tender openings.

They attended the conference; it was for the first time Sanskar had observed worried lines on Swara's face during office hours.

She was checking her phone again and again like she was waiting for some message or someone's call.

After conference, Sanskar got busy with discussions with some other clients.

Swara's phone started buzzing, she excused other team members and left towards silent area to pick up the call.

"Rohan how are Papa's reports?" she bombarded without giving any chance for Rohan from other side.

"Everything is normal. Nothing to worry. Papa's BP and cholesterol both are in control. So, chill" Rohan's assured voice brought much awaited relaxation on her face.

"Thank you Kanhaji" Swara mumbled looking upwards leaving deep sigh.

"Ok Rohan, I will call you back. Bye and ask Papa to take care."

Swara cut her call and turned to leave when she came face to face with an elderly man.

"Excuse me can you please tell me how to go back to conference room? I came out and lost my way back."

"Sir this is the way. I am going there only. You can come with me."

"Are you working with Karma Group?" man asked.

"Yes Sir."

"Sanskar ..... Maheshwari?" he mocked shaking his head.

"Hmm" Swara narrowed her eyes looking at the person who gave smug smile whispering her contractual husband's name.

"You know him?" her question was out without her realisation.

"I know him? ... Very much. He is very much fond of me."

"What the hell are you doing here Swara?" Sanskar's dangerous voice made her jump on her place.

He took long strides and came near them. He held her shoulder and turned her towards him.

She could not manage her balance, but she held his jacket.

"How dare you come here?" She stared in his eyes which were boring holes in that old man's body.

If one glare could have killed someone then this old man would have been buried in his grave long back.

"Stay away" Swara kept on looking at his anger filled face. His eyes were blazing with fire.

Man stared at Sanskar's thunder stormed eyes for a moment, he did not flinch or there was not a single percent of anxiety on his face. His face was as cold as ice.

"Dare you come in front of me again. Stay away from her. Next time if I see you anywhere near her. Trust me, Mr. Siddhant Sengupta, I will burry you in your grave." Sanskar shielded Swara at his back.

"Our ways have crossed each other long back, my boy." He tapped Sanskar's cheeks with smirky chuckle and passing quick glance at Swara he left from there.

Swara kept on gaping Sanskar, he was shivering with anxiety and pain.

She came closer to him and touched his arm.

Feeling her assured touch Sanskar turned switfly and engulfed her in his embrace tightly like his life depended on her.
