Chapter - 14

'How can someone hate their own parents to this extent? He said he would have killed them... what does that mean? Granny said he had troubled childhood but still parents are meant to love their kids. How is it possible then they won't love their own kid? I guess he would have some misunderstanding.' Swara kept on looking at the car which was going way.

She turned to go back but once again tilted her head to see him, 'but he was hurt with Granny's words. I could see pain, anguish, hatred in his eyes. Hey Kanhaji, please keep your blessings on him.'

Swara came back inside thinking about her own thought process, till morning she was angry over him but now she was praying for his wellbeing.

She entered temple where Granny was shedding tears blaming herself for hurting her grandson with her bitter words. Julia was with her trying to console.

"I hurt him. He must be devastated by now. I am worst grandmother"

"No Granny, you are the best grandmother one can have. He knows how much you love him. And he also loves you so much. Please, Granny don't cry." Swara tried her best to console. But looking at Granny her eyes also filled with tears.

Soon it was late afternoon, but Sanskar was still not returned.

Swara was in dilemma of what to do.

She was still with Granny, in her room. She had informed Ayesha about her late arrival since it was Sunday.

"Did he come back?" Granny asked question for hundredth time.

Swara shook her head in denial.

"Call him Swara"

"I tried but he had left his phone at home. It's in the room."

"Hey Kahnaji, please bring him back soon." Granny folded her hands.

"Granny you please eat something. You need to take medicines as well."

"No, let him come back. My child must be hungry as well. He is hurt."

Tears were continuously rolling over Granny's cheeks.

'I have to bring him back somehow atleast for Granny. She should not take this much stress.'

"Granny, I will be back in two minutes" Swara informed and came downstairs.

She saw couple of security guards. She asked them about Roger. She has seen him mostly every time with Sanskar. And looking at them she had understood Roger would be the person who would know or at least be able to find him out.

"Yes Mam" within half an hour Roger was in front of her with bowed head.

"Sir is missing from morning. Will you be able to find him?" she requested.

"Did he carry his phone with him?"

"No, it is still in home, but he took his car."

"Then I can find him out with car's GPS."

"Swara" they heard Julia's scream from upstairs.

She and Roger ran upstairs following the voice.

They both entered Granny's room where Julia was shaking Granny, but she had slipped in unconscious mode.

"Granny" Swara cried out.

"What happened to her?"

"I don't know; I was with her and then she suddenly became unconscious."

"Granny. Granny, wake up. Please open your eyes Granny" Swara shook her but there was no response.

"Julia Aunty, call her doctor"

"Mam, I am calling 911" Roger dialed number.

"Swara, doctor is here on the call" Julia hand overed phone.

"No, she is not responding. I am shaking her but" Swara replied on call, "Yes Roger has called 911 they are on the way"

Swara got few initial instructions over call. As per them she checked Granny's medicines and took out one tablet as suggested by doctor and forcibly pushed inside Granny's mouth.

In meantime ambulance came with the help of paramedic staff, they took Granny to hospital.

"Roger did you able to find Sir?" Doctors had already taken charge of Granny shifting her in ICCU with required medical help.

"Yes Mam, he would be here in any moment. I have informed him about Mrs. Maheshwari Mam, through gaurds."

They both were sitting outside of ICCU unit.

"Excuse me, we need to complete some formalities. May I know what your relationship with patient?" assistant doctor asked Swara.

Swara became tongue tide, she passed quick glance at Roger for answer, but his condition was also same.

"I am her grandson" Sanskar's voice made Swara and Roger turned towards him.

"How is she?" he asked gulping hard.

"We are doing her MRI scan and other tests." Assistant doctor gave brief idea about Granny's treatment and condition.

"She will be fine right?" Sanskar asked with unsurety. His heart was racing with marathon speed.

"Let's wait for her reports" Sanskar slumped down on nearby chair.

'Shit why did I left her alone. It's all my mistake. I should have controlled in front of her.'

Swara felt pang in her heart looking at lost Sanskar. With dishevelled, hairs, swollen eyes, and dropped shoulder he was looking like a person who had lost every battle of his life.

"She will be fine" Sanskar mumbled, shaking his head to convince himself.

"She will be fine."

"She will be fine" he was making himself belief by repeating his own words.

Swara had first time seen him broken state, he was shivering with fear. He was continuously tapping his one foot while tightly joining his hands which were enough to know about his anxiety. His eyes were filled with tears, but he was pushing them back by blinking.

Swara took a seat beside him with glass of water.

"Granny will be fine" her soothing voice broke Sanskar's trance.

He turned to look at her with open mouth and hope filled eyes.

"She will be fine" it was almost a question this time.

"Granny will be fine." She nodded her head and forwarded water glass.

Sanskar took glass and drank water in one gulp.

Swara kept on staring at his tormented face. This moment she realised; how much he was emotionally dependent on Granny. She was his world.

Unknowingly, her hand moved towards his other arm to touch them for passing assurance.

He felt her soft assured touch. He held her palm intervening their fingers.

Swara felt his tight hold on her palm. She squeezed his passing some strength and showing her unsaid support.

No one said any word after, but he felt he had someone beside him as his strength for the first time.

They both sat there for don't know how much time. None of them dared to break their intertwined hands. Simple gesture of assurance increased their hope.

"Mr. Maheshwari?"

"Yes doctor. How is Granny?"

"She is much better now. Due to stress, low BP and already increased size of tumor, there was less blood supply to her brain which caused her semi – coma state. We revived  the blood supply  and ... " Doctors explained about treatment and medication.

"She will be in consciousness by tomorrow morning and then after two days we can discharge her if all her reports are normal"

"I want to see her" Sanskar asked.

"She is sleeping, but yes, you can be with her."

As soon as doctors finished Sanskar entered Granny's room.

Swara saw Sanskar sitting beside sleeping Granny from glass. He had held her hand in his carefully making sure his hold would not hurt her.

'I am sorry Granny. I am sorry. Please don't leave me. You are the only one I have. Please don't leave me alone.' he kissed back of her palm.

Swara felt stream of tears rolling over his cheeks.

She felt pang on her heart looking at his miserable state. It was for the first time she had seen any emotions flowing out of his usual cold and rigid persona.

Swara stood there experiencing plethora of emotions inside. 'He is just like that newborn baby who is scared to leave his mother.'

Morning sunlight broke Sanskar's sleep, he had slept while sitting on chair besides Granny holding her palm. He carefully kept it back and kissed her forehead. He came out of ICCU room, but the scene in front of him shocked him to the core.

Swara was still there sitting on outside chair supporting her head with one hand.

It was least expected for him, that Swara stayed with him overnight. 'What is she doing here? I thought she would have left. Today is Monday, no need of her to stay back. But still she stayed. Why?'

At the same time Swara opened her eyes and his intent gaze made her cautious.

"How is Granny?" She asked while getting up from chair.

"She is still sleeping."

"I will ask Roger; he will drop you back. You don't need to be here"

Sanskar's words angered Swara for a moment, but she ignored looking and knowing his state of mind.

"I have informed Brittany for two days leave on family emergency ground."

"Family?" Sanskar raised his eyebrows, "It's ok I will manage. You should go back since weekend is over."

"Ok. But then decide what explanations you need to give to Granny for my absence?"

'Shit she is right; Granny will ask for her first when she will open her eyes.'

"Mr. Maheshwari" Doctor called him from back, and he went with doctor.

"How are you Granny?" Sanskar asked. Almost two hours later Granny was awake.

"Swara, did he apologise to you?" She did not look at her grandson.

"Granny I am talking to you?"

"And I am not talking to you till you say sorry to her." she had her ways to bring him on his knees.

"Yes, he did" Swara intervened earning glare from Sanskar and bright smile from Granny.

'Hey Kanhaji, I don't want to come in between these two. They both love each other a lot. I am no one to them but I love Granny. She will not listen, and he will not apologize. It's better I step out.'

"Sanskar, promise her you will never disrespect her" Granny raised her palm in front of him.

He took her hand in his nodding his head. With other hand Granny took Swara's hand and then put it on Sanskar's.

"You both should stay together always."

It had been two days, Granny was discharged from hospital. The moment she came in conciseness she started nagging to go back to her home. Sanskar, doctors and Swara everyone failed to convince her and then Sanskar shifted her back to their home with all required medical help.

"Granny you to finish this. I am not going to listen anything" Swara raised spoonful of chicken soup.

"Swara my stomach is full. I cannot have more. You first have your dinner. You are not taking any rest. Full day behind me. Granny do this... Granny do that... Am I a kid now?"

Swara smiled looking at her drama queen Granny.

"And today you are going back to your room. Not sleeping with me" Granny ordered this time.

Yes, from the day Granny was discharged Swara was sleeping with her in spite of Granny's strong opposition.

"Granny?"

"No Don't say a word. Two nights I listened to you but now nothing doing. You are newly married. You should spend more time with your husband. And this nurse is also there." Granny started her coaching once again.

Sanskar was standing at doorstep looking at two ladies of his house. He had observed Swara taking care of Granny just like her family member. He was relived somewhere looking at Granny's recovery. He knew without Swara's help this was not possible.

It was late night when he was returning to his room post his late night meetings when he saw kitchen lights were on. He felt thirsty and moved inside kitchen where he saw Julia and Swara.

"Julia Aunty, I have put green beans in water. So tomorrow we can make soup for Granny. It's very good for her health." He heard Swara's voice.

Whereas Julia was looking at her with moist eyes.

"You are a sunshine Swara" Julia caressed her hairs.

Swara looked at her confusingly.

"Yes, you are sunshine for this home, for this family, for Sanskar. They always say there is bright sun light after dark night. You are that sun light."

"I will pray for your and Sanskar's blessed married life." She kissed Swara's forehead.

Sanskar kept on looking at these two standing at the door.

Julia felt his presence. She turned so as Swara.

He came inside and took out glass bottle from fridge.

Julia excused herself giving them privacy.

Sanskar drank water where as Swara turned her back towards him while concentrating on her kitchen work.

He came near her. She felt his presence beside her. She looked at him in corner eyes.

"Thank you" just two words from him and Swara turned to him staring in his eyes.

They shared long eye lock and then Sanskar broke it. He left without turning back.

'Thank you for taking care of Granny. Thank you for staying back for her. Thank you for supporting me.' He could not voice out his own thoughts.

'If you want to know what is going on in Sanskar's mind then look in his eyes. His eyes speak a lot than his words and actions.' Swara remembered Granny's words.

"True Granny! His eyes speak a lot" Swara mumbled to herself still looking at Sanskar's retiring figure.
