Chapter VII

A Friend, and an Execution
_________________________________________

Location; Watcher Academy

POV; Grian/Xelqua

I hiss and pull my hand down on to my lap from where I had it resting on my desk.

A sudden sharp pain spread through where the cut was that I got a week ago.

"Shhh, Xelqua you are supposed to be taking a test, not making noises." Our language teacher scolds me.

I nod my head in apologizes and focus back on my English test.

I finish the rest of the test quickly and soon our teacher stands up and orders us to stop working.

Our teacher then goes around the room and collects out tests before sending us off to our next class.

I gingerly lift my hand and hold it close to my chest while walking out of the room with the others.

We are lead to our next session, which is Alcemy, and endure its length before finally being lead to the cafeteria for lunch.

I quickly run over and grab my chorus fruit lunch then sit down at one of the tables that was empty.

My left hand is throbbing right now from the pain of the cut I got a week ago.

I had changed the bandages recently and the scar appeared to be changing a dark indigo with some yellow.

I also had a really bad headache most of the time.

And to make matters worse, all of the teachers hated me.

They had hated me before of course, probably because I was an Admin.

But now they just flat out despised me.

"Xelqua, what is going on with you?" Zayne asks me.

I startle at first, I didn't see him come up on me.

"Nothing Sir." I lie. I won't tell him about what happened at the library, I could get myself and Noelani in serious trouble.

"Well stop being late to class and tardy all the time then." Zayne orders me.

I nod my head quickly at him and he turns and walks away, satisfied with my reaction.

As I watch him leave earshot I sigh and look back down at my chorus fruit lunch that was infront of me.

This was yet another way the Watchers would treat me. They claimed I was late, although I wasn't.

I finish eating and head over to the library. Under normal circumstances, I would have a session to go to after lunch.

And I would need an escort if I was to go anywhere on my own. The teacher for our next session was out today though, something to do with a specific server.

The escorts were also busy with something, I don't care what about  though.

All I know is now I can go anywhere without needing anyone to go with me.

As I walk down the hallways, I hear footsteps from behind me.

I turn around quickly to spot the follower, but no one's there.

I frown, but turn back around and continue my path towards the library.

When I get to the doors, I stop and look to my left and then to my right, still no one in sight.

I shrug and open the doors and walk in to the library.

I pass the librarian at their desk and continue walking towards the tables and chairs at the back of the library.

I sit down at one of the tables in the back, and lift up a book that was left on the table by someone else.

The book was about magic spells and how to cast them.

It could be useful as I was trying to learn more so maybe I could get on the Watchers good side for once, if at all possible.

As I'm reading the book, I hear footsteps approach and sit across from me at the same table as I.

I look up at them and raise an eyebrow.

"Do you need something? Cause I'm kinda busy right now." I ask her.

She had long dark brown hair that was pulled into a low bun. Her eyes were brown like her hair.

She was wearing the same dark purple tunic and charcoal grey leggings with tall black boots like the rest of the Watcher students.

"Oh, um, I noticed that you're hurt and I was wondering if you wanted help." She asked.

"How do you know I'm hurt?" I ask her. "And I don't even know your name." I add.

"My name's JadedSun, but you can call me Jade." She says while fiddling with her fingers that she had resting on her lap.

"My name's Xelqua, but it used to be Grian. You didn't answer my question though, how do you know that I'm injured?" I ask Jade.

She winced at the question and looked up at me from her hands to meet my eyes.

"I-I can tell when someone's been poisoned." She says while rubbing one hand on her arm.

"What? I haven't been poisoned, what are you talking about?" I ask her indignantly.

Jade puts a finger to her lips and makes a shush noise.

"Lower your voice, do you want them to know that we know?" She says while gesturing with her eyes over at a Watcher behind her.

"Know about what?" I ask her while whispering.

Jade rolls her eyes and sighs.

"Xelqua, you've been poisoned. I don't know how, or by who, but I know that you have." She says sternly in a whisper.

The pupils of my eyes go big and then go back to normal.

"What proof do you have? How do I know you're not just pulling my leg." I ask while leaning back in my chair.

She sighs and grabs my right arm and pulls me forward.

I yelp at the sudden moment and hiss as she grabs my injured arm and starts unwrapping the bandages on my hand.

"Hey, stop that!" I whisper-shout at Jade. I want her to stop, but I don't want to draw the etention of everyone else.

Instead she ignores me, and continues unwrapping my bandages.

Soon she is done, she successfully exposed my injured hand that had just started to scar.

"There, see that, your skin is turning a yellowie-purple color around your wound. Your also slightly pale and your eyes are turning a light shade of yellow." Jade says.

This time my eyes go wide and stay wide. 'I am poisoned.'

"Your probably wondering what the poison is or what it's doing other than changing you colors." She says to me.

I nod my head at her, still in shock.

"I recognize your eyes changing color as a control poison. The yellow color is from a rare poison called Achlys." She says.

"I know of a cure, but it's going to be hard to make." Jade says to me.

"I don't care how hard it is to make, I just want to be cured." I tell her.

She smiles and nods her head.

"Follow me then, we need to get some things from the potion ingredients room." She says.

I quickly rewrap my hand with the bandages and stand up.

I follow her out of the library and into the hallways.

We walk all the way to the room and Jade starts looking for ingredients along the many shelves.

"I need bone meal, nether wart, phantom membrane, and dragon's breath." She says.

I hurry along the isles of shelves looking for the ingredients as fast as possible.

Soon we have found all the ingredients and gathered back together in the middle of the room.

"Now all we need to do is brew these together and we've got your cure." She says while smiling.

I nod my head back at her smiling as well.

"Wait, are we allowed to be in here?" I ask Jade.

"I mean, not exactly." She pauses. "But it'll be alright as long as no one finds out."

"To bad I found out then, isn't it?" A new voice says.

We both turn around sharply to face the newcomer.

'Morden.'

"RUN!" Jade shouts at me while thrusting all of the ingredients into my arms.

"But what about you?!" I yell back at her.

"I'll be fine, just go!" She shouts.

I turn and start to run for the exit.

Jade uses her magic and throws a potion of temporary blindness at Morden.

"Arrgg!" He yells while stumbleling backwards into one of the shelves.

He quickly uses his magic and negates the blindness.

Jade had started running after me right after she threw the potion at Morden.

Now she cries out in a scream of pain before falling to the ground surrounded by glowing chains.

I stop to turn back and help her escape.

"NO, keep going without me!" She shouts at me before laying limp on the ground.

I hurry out of the ingredients room and all the way back to my room.

I quickly lock the door behind me, (not that it'll help much), and put the ingredients in a brewing stand I have in my room.

The ingredients brew together while I sit on my bed and catch my breath after all the eventsthat just took place.

'I met a friend, we found some ingredients to help me because apparently I'm poisoned. We got caught, and now Jade is captured.'

I quickly start to form a rescue plan for Jade in my head and make sure to focus on every detail.

A bubbling sound distracts me and I'm pulled out of my head to look over at the brewing stand and see that it finished.

I get up and walk over to the brewing stand and pick up the newly made potion.

It shimmered in the soft light of my room. The potion was a deep red almost black, with red particles around it.

I pressed the bottle to my lips and drank it.

Instantly, I dropped the bottle and clutched my head in pain.

I stumbled over to my bed and layed down on it, still holding my head.

It felt like I just drank lava, and it went to my head instead of my stomach.

After what felt like hours later, but was only a few minutes, the pain went away.

I slowly sat up and looked around, nothing was to different other than the fact that my head felt clearer.

Oh, and the steaming hate for the Watchers. How dare they try to poison me and then take away my friend.

I was going to continue my thoughts about how evil the Watchers were until a message was telepathically sent to me.

'"All Watchers and Watcher students are to arrive immediately at the courtyard. If you don't come, you will be hunted down and punished."' The voice said.

I quickly sat up from my bed and left my room to follow all the other Watchers who were on there way to the courtyard as well.

When we get there, I immediately notice the platform stage that's been set up in the center of the courtyard.

I wonder what's going on until I realize who's in the stage.

'Morden, Prince Aiden, and, oh-no, Jade.'

I rush up to the front of the crowd to get a better view.

"Welcome Watchers and students. I've gathered you all here to witness the punishment to take place here." He pauses.

"This Watcher student was caught, not only entering restricted area, but also helping the Admin." His smile turns evil.

All eyes turn from Aiden to me, I stand firm though, and look Aiden in the eyes. A frown spreads across my face, and his smile only widens.

'I don't know what they're planning, but it's sure to not end well.'

"To punish him he will have to watch as his poor friend dies." Aiden says maliciously.

"NOOO!" I cry out.

I rush forward to attack Aiden but I'm held back by other Watchers.

They grab onto my arms and prevent me from moving.

Jade is pushed forward on the stage by a Watcher behind her.

She trys to break free from the binds holding her hands together, but fails.

Aiden approaches Jade and pulls out a bedrock dagger.

"Now watch, that you may learn what happens when you disobey me and go against my rules." He says.

Aiden suddenly grabs Jade by her shoulder and plunges his dagger into her chest, right where her heart is.

"NOOOOOOOOO!" I scream. I try to break free from the Watchers grasp but they're to strong.

Jade gasps as Aiden pulls his dagger out of her and watches as she falls to the ground on her knees.

She coughs up some blood before closing her eyes for the last time and falling on her side.

I struggle again against the Watchers holding me back, but fail.

A whimper escapes my lips before I start to cry out and scream because of her death.

Aiden looks down at me, still smiling from his little show.

He says something to the Watchers holding me but I'm to caught up in emotions to hear.

Suddenly, something hard hits the side of my head, and the world fades black.
