Lachlan's POV
Okay, our parents are jags. Freaking jags. Same with Nikolai, but mostly our parents are jags. Did I mention they were jags?
I also can NOT believe Mikey- I mean, Jordan- is a fudging sorcerer. I mean, what the fudge mate? You can't just not tell your best friend that you can do magic.
I sighed and plopped down on my bed in the guest room. Tomorrow we could bombard our parents and Jordan with questions. I mean, we have a crap ton of questions. Like, why say Adam, Ty, Jason, Ian, Quentin, and and Seto are the element-holders? Why was Seto the only one who knew he wasn't one? Why leave the readers on huge cliffhangers? (I'm sorry, have an apology donut 🍩)
Instead of sleeping that night, I made the mistake of staying up and recounting every question I had for my parents, Mi- I mean, Jordan, and Nikolai. Also known as the jags of Minecraftia. And let's just say I had a LOT of questions for them.
Apparently time flies when you're thinking of ways to kill a god and/or a wizard, because before I knew it, it was five in the morning. Great. Maybe I could sleep for like two hours.....
Slam.
Scratch that. Of course I can't.
"Lachlan!" I heard Vikk whisper-shout. "You gotta come see this."
I groaned and got out of bed. Why five o'clock, Vikk. Why. Five. O'clock. In the morning.
Vikk looked pretty excited to show me whatever it was, he was practically bouncing up and down. He wasn't bouncing very high, though, the little shorty.
As soon as I gave him a disgruntled, "Okay," he rushed out of the room faster than a blue hedgehog in red sneakers. He did sort of look like a blue hedgehog in red sneakers. Short, a blue sweater, red shoes.....
I remembered I was supposed to be following him, so I did. We went through a whole bunch of corridors, and by the twenty-seventh, I was more tired than a dog.
I stopped to rest, and somehow Vikk knew about my pit stop. How? He wasn't looking behind his back....
"Oh, Lachlan, hurry up," Vikk snapped. Instantly, I felt an cold breeze pushing me back up to a standing position. Woah..... Vikk learned how to use his powers already?
The wind wasn't done yet. It picked me up from the ground and started carrying me. Geez Vikk, you impatient little jag.
The wind carried me over to a room with huge oak doors. The breeze roughly dropped me down to the floor upon coming to the doors. Groaning and rubbing my aching butt, I walked over to the doors. Then I realized something.
"Hey, where'd Vikk go?" I questioned aloud. There's no way he would've been faster than me on the air, unless he made his own breeze carry him....
I shook my head, shaking off the odd question. I stared at the doors in consideration. Should I do it? I mean, it looks creepy, and it feels creepy, but I kinda want to see what's inside the room....
I let my curiosity get the better of me, and I opened the great doors.
Inside were loads and loads of bookshelves, and there were even more books- they littered desks, shelves, chairs..... oh. I was in the library. That made sense. But.... why did Vikk want me here?
Speaking of Vikk....
"Hey Little Lachy, come here! I wanna show you something!"
I followed Vikk's voice to one of the bookshelves. The said shelf was tall, but it includes a ladder so small people like Vikk could reach the higher parts of the bookshelf. Vikk was eagerly waiting next to the bookshelf, a book in hand. The book looked dusty and old. What was it about?
"Lachlan, look at this book!" Vikk shoved the book underneath my nose once I got close enough to him. Amused, I smiled and took the book from his hands.
"One question first," I said to Vikk. "Why did you call me Little Lachy? I thought only my mom called me that."
Vikk hesitated, a confused look washing over his face. "Oh... she did? Well then," he muttered, now staring at the floor. He then looked up at me again, smiling once more. "I just liked the irony of calling you little, because you're so tall."
After that, I could have sworn he said, "Whoops...."
But who knows?
I shrugged and examined the old book Vikk had given me. It didn't have a title on the cover, just a weird symbol- a triangle surrounded by various swirls, a tiny sword inside the triangle. It looked weird, cool, and somewhat familiar. Ugh, I hate that feeling you get when you think you know something and what it is is at the tip of your tongue but you just can't put your finger on it..... so annoying.
Vikk looked like he was about to explode from eagerness. Curious, I opened the book to the first page. Nothing on it. Same with the second page. And the third, and the fourth.... up until the 87th, all of the pages were blank.
The 87th page, though....
There were multiple symbols on the yellowing page, each not unlike the symbol shown on the cover of the book. I stared at the symbols, confused. What the flip did these mean?
Then slowly, right before my eyes, the symbols began to move.
Now, I'm not talking about them shaking or jumping up and down like Vikk was still currently doing. I'm talking about them twisting and turning, forming other shapes. The MAGICAL type of moving.
Magical type of moving kinda freaked me out. I mean, it's unnatural!
The lines continued shaping themselves until they formed actual letters, which freaked me out even more. Was the book going to say something? I sort of didn't want to see what was going to happen, but at the same time, my curiosity was killing me. I needed to see what would happen next.
Stupid mind games.
"Uh....... Vikk?" I questioned the element-holder. "What's happening?"
Vikk just flashed his signature smile. "You'll see!"
That's when I saw what letters the symbols were shaping to create.
тσмσяяσω ιѕ тнє ηєχт αттα¢к. тняєє ωєєкѕ, ℓα¢нℓαη ¢яαƒт.
I gasped while Vikk chuckled. Wait.... that's not Vikk's laugh. That sounded.... hollow. Empty. Like it was echoing inside my head.
But....
Was the person who made this book.....
Haletor?
"Three weeks, Lachlan Craft."
I turned around sharply to look at the source of the voice. It was.... Vikk?
"Did you hear me, Lachlan Craft?" Vikk said in that same, hollow voice. "Three weeks."
Vikk started laughing evilly. The kind of laugh that breaks your eardrums. The kind of laugh that just sounded evil. He then dissipated into a thick, black mist that distorted my vision. I couldn't see anything. Nothing at all.
"Help!" I cried, hoping that someone would hear me, even though I knew they wouldn't. "Help!"
The mist seemed to be taking a solid form, squeezing the air out of my chest. I couldn't breathe, no matter how hard I tried to fight against the mist.
My vision was tinted red. It felt sickening. Then, my eyes failed me, and I was left staring at nothing. Just darkness.
------------------------------;-;------------------------------
I gasped, my eyes flying open. I immediately pushed myself up from the bed and looked at the clock. Seven am. I sighed in relief.
It was a nightmare.
Knock knock knock.
I froze, remembering what happened when I opened the door in my dream. Should I trust it again?
"Lachlan! Hey dude, did you have that weird nightmare too?"
I sighed once more in relief. It was Mitch. Did he and the others have the same dream?
"Yeah," I called back, rubbing my forehead. "Geez, that was weird."
"Wow. Okay, um.... this can't be coincidental," came Mitch's voice. "I'll go ask the others. See ya at breakfast!"
I rubbed my head in frustration. How did we all have the same dream? Well, it probably wasn't exactly the same dream, they might've had other people in their dream.
Dream Vikk's words were still echoing inside my brain, along with the things the book said. Tomorrow there was going to be an attack? What?
And Dream Vikk's hollow voice remained eerily in my mind.
"Three weeks, Lachlan Craft."
