"Hᴇ ɪs ɴᴏ ʟᴏɴɢᴇʀ ᴀᴍᴏɴɢsᴛ ᴜs."
A day like every other day, but still so special. A day you would never forget.
You just finished working on the field. You always helped the farmer. Only you father and you worked. He was one of the Hunters that went out everyday with a small group to get extra food for the village. You were so proud of him. He always helped the people of Ealdor. It wasn't always easy. The king didn't care about the village at all. He always send his knights to collect the most part of the grown food. The taxes were high and the people were pour. The hunters helped your village survive. Your father always did the right thing. You worked on the field to get some extra money for your parents.
Sometimes you were scared. He hunted in the Green Forest near a kingdom called Camelot. All kind of beasts were wandering through that forest. It was very dangerous.
'Mother,' you said, while entering your small house. The old planks made a squicky sound under your brown boots. You closed the heavy door behind you and sighed deeply. You were exhausted.
'I'm home!' You yelled, but no one answered you. You heard some noises coming from the other room. Your house had two rooms. The one you lived in and the one where you and your parents slept. It was not much, but you were very happy with it. You felt like a small house brought you closer to your family. In the evenings, you sat by the fire all night and just talked. Talked about your job, the kingdom, the myths and your father would always show you a bit of his magic.
You grew up with magic. It was a gift that was giving from father to daughter. When you were little, you used to practice all day. Your father would take you deep into the woods and teach you all you needed to know. You also practised with your magical best friend. His name was Merlin.
You grew up with Merlin. He was special. Very special. His magic was something you had never seen before. It was powerful, but still he could control it. At first, he had trouble controlling it. He had the same problems that you had, so you helped each other to figure out what to do. His magical abilities went far beyond yours. You came to a point where you couldn't help him with his magic anymore, but kept going anyways. You guys could figure it out, even though only Merlin could do it.
You slowly walked towards the other room, walking around the furniture in your house. The part where you lived was small, but you had a lot of stuff in that small room. You often bumped into a table or fell over a small cupboard. You were really clumsy. It always happened to you. You didn't really understand where it came from.
'Mother?' You asked, while entering the room. You saw your mom sitting by a small window. She rested her head on her hands and watched the people go by your house. She let out a deep sigh and turned towards you. Her face was full of worry and her
y/m/e/c (your mother's eye color) eyes were watery and red. She cried. You were sure of it
'Are you ok?' You asked worried, while putting away the brown bag you carried. Your mom nodded and rubbed her eyes.
'Yes,' she answered. 'Don't worry about me, Dear.' You didn't know what was going on, you were so confused. You had never seen your mom like this.
'But I do,' you spoke, while running over to her. You wrapped your arms around her and pulled her in a hug. Your mom slowly let go of you and cupped your face with her hands. You eyebrows drawned in worry.
'I'm just worried about your father,' she explained. 'He hasn't returned yet.'
'He's still not back?' Your father was gone for almost three days now. Usually, he would be gone for two days.
You frowned, while looking out the window. You saw a few children laughing and running around. A few women were chatting outside of a house and a man was carrying a few sword towards the blacksmith. Suddenly, they all stopped with what they were doing, and ran towards the wooden gate. They all had a smile on their face and seemed happy.
'He's back!' You smiled while pushing yourself away from the window. 'No need to worry.' You grabbed your bag and and ran out of the room. You threw your bag in the right corner and opened the door again. A warm breez came towards you and blew your y/h/c hair to your back. You took a deep breath and started running towards the gate. Your footsteps made a heavy sound on the small roads that were made of sand. You ran passed all the villagers, without hitting anyone, and stopped at the wooden gate. You saw a small group of men ridding their horses towards Ealdor. They were wearing standard brown pants, a white blouse with a leather, sleavless jacket that served for both warmth and protection. You recognised the men on the horses. They were the Hunters. They were back!
A big smile appeared on your face. The hunters lead their horses over the sandpath and stopped when they got through the gate. The families of the Hunters ran forward. You looked at all the horses. There were six horses, but only five men. You father wasn't there.
You frowned in confusion while stepping forward. You grabbed your father's white mare by the bridles. She whinned and pushed her nose against your cheek. She seemed nervous. You loved this beautiful mare. Her name was Mara. She always went where your father went. They had a special bond. Your father had Mara for a few years now, by they were inseparable from the first ride. Your father loved this horse. He would never leave her behind.
You pushed Mara's nose away and stepped forward. The leader of the group of hunters, Aymon, turned his face towards you. It was a tall, young man. He wasn't very muscular, but you had seen him fight before. He was really good. Aymon had short, brown hair and emerald green eyes. The smile immediately washed of his face and he only looked at you with a face full of regret.
'Where is my father?' You asked, while petting Mara on her head. Aymon let out a deep sigh and grabbed the sides of his saddle. He swung his leg over the back of his horse and jumped off.
'I'm sorry, Y/N,' he spoke. His eyes were full of hurt. 'He is no longer amongst us.' You blinked your eyes a few times, before his words could hit you. He is no longer amongst us. That could only mean one thing.
The news hit you. It hit you hard. Your yaw dropped in shock. Suddenly, you could feel your heart starting to beat faster. Tears whelmed up in your eyes.
'W-what?' You chocked.
'We lost him in the woods,' Aymon told you. 'He was just... gone. We went looking for him, but all we found was his necklace.' Aymon grabbed his leather backpack and took the necklace from the small poket. He held it out to you with a sigh.
This was the necklace your father always wore. It was a leather strap with a silver coin. He wore it for luck. One day, you told him you were afraid of him never coming back. You made this necklace together and he said to you: 'Don't be afraid, Y/N. This necklace will make sure I'm ok. It will guard me. I promise.' He never took it off after that.
You grabbed the necklace and looked at it. It was filthy and there was blood all over the coin. You hands started shaking and tears rolled over your cheeks.
'No,' You whispered, while pressing the necklace to your chest. 'This can't be true.' Your breathing got faster.
'I'm sorry..' Aymon spoke. 'We found his necklace and blood. A lot of blood. I think he's gone..' You could feel your heart break into a million pieces. Mara came closer to you and pressed her nose against your shoulder. You turned towards her and threw your arms around her neck. You started crying. Loud. You didn't care. Your beloved father. He was gone and he was never coming back.
'Y/N,' Aymon spoke sadly after a while. He put his hand on you shoulder. You let go of Mara and pushed his hand away. You grabbed the bridles and started walking towards your house. You held onto the necklace. Never letting it go. Tears were still running down your cheeks. You chest hurt and felt empty. Like a piece of you had been taken away.
You lead Mara over the small path. You felt the eyes of the villagers on you, but you didn't care. All you wanted was to go home and cry your heart out. Shout that it was unfair and curse this necklace, because it didn't help. You knew it was useless, but what else could you do. You were heartbroken.
You walked towards the small stable next to your house. It was a wooden stable with only three walls and a roof. It was not much, but it was enough for Mara.
You brought Mara to the stables and let go of her bridles. You kissed her nose, before walking towards your house. You opened the door quietly and walked to the other room. Your mom stood next to the window and smiled happily when you came in. Her smile immediately faded when she saw the tears in your eyes.
'What is going on?' She asked. You didn't answer her. You cried loudly while running into your arms. Your mom pulled you closer to her, while looking at you full of concern. She slowly let go of you. She whiped away a few tears with her thumb.
'Y/N?' She asked. 'It's ok. C-'
'It's not Ok!' You screamed. Your mother looked at you, not knowing what to do.
'Ok, Y/N.. calm down. Please tell me what happened.' You knew you had to answer her, but you didn't want to. She would be heartbroken. Your father was your mother's first love. They had loved each other from the moment they met. She couldn't handle this.
You took a deep breath and tried to calm down. You grabbed your mother's hand with your shaking hand and sighed deeply.
'It's father,' You spoke softly, while wiping away some tears. Your mother frowned and looked at You in confusion.
'What about him?' She asked, while stroking your shaking hand. You couldn't hold back your tears and started crying again. You hold out your hand to her and slowly opened it. The dirty necklace appeared. Your mom looked at it in shock.
'I-I am sorry, Mother,' You cried. 'He is gone.'
