1: The Biased Interview
"So, uh, remind me what you studied at university?" Paola giggled nervously as she messed with her hair. There was no reason to be nervous, as she was the one interviewing this man. And she already knew the answer. As if I don't know that he studied Forensic Sciences... I'm a bit of a stalker I guess. She thought to herself as her old classmate began to answer.
"Well I majored in Plant Biology, but I did dabble around and take a few other classes for fun." The lie rolled right off of his tongue.
That's a lie. Immediately, her radar went up. I know for a fact that this man, Basil Asesino, did not major in Plant Biology... do I call him out? Or does that make me look even weirder?...
"Oh, really?... Well that's great news for a nursery position. How familiar would you say you are with... perennials and annuals?" I suppose it doesn't matter what he says, as long as he has the knowledge to back it up. She decided quickly.
"I would say that my knowledge of perennials outweighs my knowledge in annuals, solely because perennials tend to stick around longer. But I am more than willing to study what I don't know. Believe me, this is exactly the job I've been looking for." He swished his medium-length black hair out of his pale face and placed his head thoughtfully in his hand. "You know, originally, I thought I was going to be a scientist, but the more research I did at University, the more boring I realized it would be. I like to be more hands-on, more... dirty... if you will. And I enjoy working as a partner. It would honestly be a dream to work for you."
Basil was laying it on thick. He definitely needed this job. Not for money, or to get his parents off of his back for not having a job after university, but for much more personal reasons.
And she definitely fell for it. Paola even blushed as she spoke. Despite her lack of sexual attraction to him, she wasn't missing any innuendoes. Or the fact that Basil was a perfect ten. Her crush, although more born out of general interest in perfect humans, was still going to rule over her decisions.
"Well, I can tell you that today I suppose I can make your dream come true. Please, do me the honor of accepting my job offer." Standing up straight, Paola flashed a bright smile, which Basil took in graciously.
Her brown, wavy hair was smoothed into a professional bun today. It was so long that Basil could just imagine being swathed in it if he were to approach her. And her darker skin made such a beautiful contrast to his own. She is so... Perfect. Basil thought to himself as he plastered a huge smile onto his face as well. His green eyes burned into Paola's hazel ones and he checked to face quickly to ensure that there was nothing new about it that he should know.
Still exactly twenty-three freckles. No dimples. Slight acne flare-up on her chin; possibly from a poor diet. His analysis was understandably quick. He would have plenty of time to examine her from now on.
