I'm Not A Child
Y/n's pov
"Are you sure we're here late?" Tom asked as we walked into the theater.
"We're early," I said, "but David said he was here already, so I was like, why not?"
"Y/n!" I looked over to see Kylee, waving at us.
We made our way over to where Kylee was sitting, to see that David was not there.
"Is David already backstage?" I asked when we got over there.
"Yeah," Kylee said, standing up, hugging me. "He said he saved a spot in line for you."
"Great," I grinned, "well, I should go then."
I turned to leave when Tom spoke up.
"You know, Y/n," he said, "I could've walked over here myself. I'm not a child."
"Oh really?" I said, raising an eyebrow. "Right now you sound like one."
Tom didn't say anything.
"Erm, well," he said at last, "break a leg."
"Thanks!" I grinned, leaving to register.
*time skip brought to you by my undying love for tom holland*
"Are you ready?" David asked.
We were standing backstage, waiting in anticipation to go on stage, the show was to start in only ten minutes.
"Nope," I sighed, wiping my hands on my pants, which wasn't very effective. "I have 'before performance butterflies'. It doesn't help that my hands are super sweaty."
I put my hand out for David to see, he touched my hand, then immediately wiped his hands on his pants.
"Ew," he said, shaking his head. "I do have those butterflies right now though."
"Everyone! Gather up!" a stagehand shouted.
David and I shuffled over to where everyone was gathered, waiting for our instructions.
I was to perform right after David, which was going to be tough since David was a great performer.
I was sitting there, waiting, when my phone kept going off, I opened it to see it was just the Marvel group chat.

David and I warmed up, I did tongue twisters, scales, and octave jumps, humming the song after.
Then, out of nowhere, I heard a very flat note.
David and I winced, looking around to see who sang that note.
That's when my eyes landed on Oliva, who was looking at David and me since we were looking around.
"What are you doing back here?" she asked me, narrowing her eyes.
I pointed to myself, not sure if she was talking to me, but she nodded.
"Oh- I'm entering the competition," I shrugged.
"Oh really," she asked, giving an amused laugh, that was getting on my nerves. "I wouldn't have thought you had the talent to sing."
"I- okay," I said, wanting to snap back, but refraining, more like David stepped on my foot to tell me to not say anything.
"Where's Tanner?" she then asked, looking around. "I bet he has more talent than you two."
David raised an eyebrow, looking at her, which was valid since he had never met her.
"He's sitting in the audience," I answered.
"Oh," she said, a smirk forming on her face, "I guess he'll just hear how much better I am than you."
David and I shared glances, he nodded, meaning I could snap back.
"Oh, wasn't it. you that just sang flat?" I asked, a sweet smile on my face.
Olivia clenched her fists, like Arthur.
"Anyways," I said, "what song are you singing?"
"'Cheap Thrills', by Sia," Oliva said, smirking. She was watching my reaction, her smirk dipping when I didn't do anything.
"Basic," I said at last. "Well, I have to keep warming up, so have a good day-"
"What song are you doing?" she asked, interrupting me.
"'Electricity', from Billy Eliot," I shrugged. "You probably don't know what that is, but it's okay because not everyone has extensive knowledge about musical theater- but we should go, I shouldn't be wasting my vocal cords of such a minimal conversation."
Olivia gaped at me as David and I waved her goodbye, smiling, walking back to where we were standing before.
"Wow," David said.
"What?" I asked.
"You know what I'm talking about, Y/n," he said, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay, okay," I said. "I was a little harsh, but she deserved it."
"It was pretty cool," David said, taking a deep breath, as he saw one of the stagehands walking over to us.
"David, you're up," they said.
David nodded, smiling, waving me goodbye, walking onto the stage.
Tom's pov
"Olivia Knight!" the announcer announced, causing me to sigh as Olivia walked onto the stage.
"You know her?" Kylee asked me, raising an eyebrow, keeping her eyes forward.
"Yeah," I said, keeping my eyes forward as well, "she doesn't like Y/n, because Y/n is close to me, and I chose Y/n over her, so yeah."
"Oh- okay, wow," Kylee said, nodding, then perking up, "you know that means she's going to try and impress you."
I grimaced, that's not what I wanted, but I couldn't think more about it, as the song started.
"I hate this song," Kylee muttered, as Olivia started singing.
"That could be important information to know later," I said, raising an eyebrow.
Kylee rolled her eyes, sighing.
After about two minutes, the song was finally over, Kylee and I were sighing a breath of relief.
"I'm David French."
David was onstage now, Y/n had texted me telling me that she was going to be right after him, meaning she was up soon.
"I'm nineteen, and I'm going to be singing 'Take on me' by a-ha," he smiled, looking confident, waiting for the song to start.
When the song started, I could only think about how Y/n was backstage, probably recreating that one Vine, not caring what anyone else backstage thought.
I was falling hard for her, I knew what she was doing without even seeing her. But we were a thing, right?
"You two are a thing," Kylee, whispered, as two of the judges turned around.
"What-?" I asked, being caught off guard.
"You and Y/n," she repeated, she then shook her head. "I'll tell you after David finishes, I think there's a break in between."
"Oh," I muttered, turning my attention back to David, who was grinning, still singing.
It was only a matter of a few measures when the other two judges (one being Chris) turned around, causing David's grin to only become bigger.
His energy was out of this world, I swear, it was as though you couldn't help but smile as David sang, his grin was contagious, and he was just getting happier and happier.
"I'll be gone in a day or two!" David sang, finishing the song, leading to him getting a standing ovation, he was breathing heavily, but he looked ecstatic at the feedback.
The judges did their jobs, and judged David, all of them giving positive feedback, with one or two tips to help David improve his singing.
"So David, who are you going to choose?" one of the judges asked.
David glanced at the four judges, still smiling.
"Anthony," he said, which shocked me, but Kylee nodded, as though she expected that to happen.
Anthony jumped up, walking up to David, hugging him, to which David returned, a huge grin on his face.
"We will be taking a five-minute break," said an announcer.
"Why did David not choose Chris?" I asked Kylee as soon as the lights went up.
Kylee raised an eyebrow as though this was very basic knowledge I should have known.
"If David and Y/n both chose Chris then they would have to compete against each other," she explained. "He probably doesn't want her to have to decide not choosing Chris, so he's chosen Anthony instead. Both of them know how this works, the three of us used to sit in front of my tv, and watch the show."
"That makes sense," I nodded as all of that information connected in my head. "So, what did you mean about-"
"You and Y/n are definitely a thing," Kylee finished, taking the words out of my mouth before I could even utter them.
"You two may not act like it out here, but you can tell you two have chemistry, not as much when you're doing that thing, but in private, the chemistry you two have is strong.
"You might have not faced it, or made it 'official' but if you two acted the same way in public, most might think you two were already a thing."
I sat there, my jaw dropped, I was definitely not expecting that from Kylee.
"And I could tell from your eyes," she said, answering the question I was just about to ask. "I've learned over the years to read facial expressions, and you can tell a lot from the eyes."
"Is that going to be useful later?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"Who knows," Kylee sighed. "For all I know, someday I could all of a sudden be faced with only seeing people's eyes, so I'd rather be able to read eyes and learn now, than then."
"Smart," I nodded.
"We're back," the announcer said. "And back with more singers, right up, we have another contestant to sing for us, Y/n L/n."
Y/n walked on, smiling, not seeming the slightest bit nervous.
"Hi, I'm Y/n L/n," she said, "I'm nineteen, and I will be singing 'Electricity' from Billy Eliot."
"She looks so confident up there," I whispered as the music started.
"Of course she does," Kylee said, rolling her eyes, "she's only been performing for over nine years."
"Right," I muttered, Y/n was now singing.
She was fantastic, I swear she was even better on stage than when she was singing in the room.
I couldn't blame her, David had brought a lot of energy to the room, which was still there, but it was becoming a different type of energy, since "Electricity" was a more emotional song.
Y/n was using the song to her advantage, using more emotion in certain words, it gave me chills. Well, it seemed to give everyone chills as half of the judges had turned around, and she had only sung one of the verses.
That's when the dreaded dance break was supposed to happen, I didn't know what Y/n had planned for the break, as when she was singing the song, she did nothing as it played, she just sat there.
Y/n was tap dancing.
That's right, she started tap dancing, I furrowed my eyebrows, wondering when she had the time to figure this all out.
"She was wearing them when she walked on," Kylee said, not even needing to look at me to know what I was thinking. "It's not really surprising that Y/n brought her tap shoes, she's been taping since we were in second grade."
And at that moment, I realized just how talented Y/n L/n was. She didn't look the part of someone who could do all of these things, but she was.
The song was soon coming to an end, all of the judges had turned around at this point, a small smile on Y/n's face, as she had to keep the energy strong.
"I'm free!" she finished, breathing heavily as she stepped back, so the mic wouldn't pick it up.
Kylee and I immediately stood up, clapping for her, almost everyone else in the theater doing the same.
Y/n's eyes traveled around the room, landing on me, her smile growing big.
After everyone sat down, Y/n got notes from the judges, and that's when she had to choose.
"Chris," she said after thinking a few seconds.
Chris grinned, getting up to go hug Y/n, causing me to clap again, while Kylee turned to me.
"You two are definitely a thing."
