Kat had hit her head hard when she fell, knocking the last of the mind control out of her system, freeing her from the mind stone's control. She had landed near the machine that was powering the portal. She shook her head to clear it. There was so much going on as the battle raged around her.

She looked up at the tesseract, at the portal it was creating. She tried to get up. She had to stop it, had to close the portal. She had to shake off her pain and move. She tried. And tried, but her legs wouldn't move. All she felt when she tried was pain. She screamed, but it did no good. She couldn't feel her actual legs. Just the pain from where she'd been hit in the back.

She feared the worst, but didn't have time to worry about herself. She had to close the portal. She was the closest. She heard the calls from the team, heard them through the comm in her ear. The comm hadn't been destroyed when Loki had taken her. They had to get that portal closed before even more aliens came through. The only way to stop it was the scepter. The tesseract protected itself.

Except... the tesseract couldn't protect itself from... itself. There was another way to stop it. She gritted her teeth and used her arms to pull herself to the portal, to the machine. Her legs wouldn't move, but she had enough strength to drag herself by her arms.

She called on her magic and reached through the barrier to grab the tesseract and pull it from the machine. It took effort for her to break through its defenses, but she soon pulled the tesseract free and cuddled it to her chest, one of the few beings in the realms who could touch it without protection.

Loki's head had whipped over in her direction at her scream, watching her move towards the tesseract. When she pulled it free, his mouth nearly dropped open, amazed at the fact that a Midgardian had the strength to do such a thing, until he remembered that she possessed the power of the tesseract itself.

Chaos erupted when the tesseract was removed from the machine. The portal closed, the Avengers winning the day.

Loki soon had weapons aimed at him, the team surrounding him as he forced himself up into a sitting position. Thor got him to his feet and secured with handcuffs, which were completely unnecessary now that the mind control was broken.

The tesseract was taken from Kat and placed in a secure briefcase so it wouldn't hurt anyone else who tried to touch it. Medical staff got her loaded on a stretcher to take away. There was so much blood.

Loki's eyes widened at how much blood there was. He reached out to try and help her, heal her injuries but the cuffs made it impossible, especially with the team watching him and they wouldn't let him anywhere near her.

Nat rushed off with her sister and the medical staff. The word 'spine' kept being said about her injury while they left, leaving Loki with Thor and the rest of the team.

"Come, brother," Thor told him when Kat was gone. He was to face the Allfather's mercy. Loki knew it was no mercy, but had no choice but to let Thor lead him away and drag him home for sentencing. He was sentenced to life in the dungeons without the ability to see his mother again or to find out what happened to the girl who saved his life.
