Hidden Shadows- part two

I walked out of the dark street, out from the door, and stepped into... my house? This couldn't be right. It was daylight as well, and I began to question my life. There was snow dusting the ground outside. This was all wrong. I wished for adventure, not my regular life. I couldn't stand that.

I walked in, and all was eerily quiet. Will's toys were scattered about the floor. When I walked, my steps seemed to echo. It was still, too still for my liking, as if I was the only one living in my house. Usually we would have some sort of noise coming from Evie tinkering with something, or Will making some new mess. I walked into Evie's room.

"Hello?" I called. No one answered. All was still, and silent. I continued walking, down the stairs. I thought they may be hiding in the basement, as some sort of cruel practical joke.

"Evie?" I called. No one answered me except for the mocking echoes of myself.

"Evie?"  They called. It was horrifying. I crept down the last of the wooden stairs as silently as I could. Something was off. I glanced around, and decided it would be in my best interest to leave. I went back upstairs, but tripped over one of Will's old toys. His old fire truck made a squealing noise that made me almost jump out of my skin. I fell over from the shock.

As I sat on the floor, heart beating in recovery, I stared at the truck, now flipped on it's side. As I stared, the wheels began moving. The circumstances were strange enough, so I wondered to myself for a minute. Then I stared harder. They span faster. Faster and faster around they went, until they were squeaking and could move no faster. The fire truck began to shake with energy. It flew up into the air, and I gasped. It shot down when I took my concentration off of it. Then everything was still. But the stillness could not last, as I heard a scream. The screams that haunted my nightmares, the screams that caused me to become insane. I could feel a presence behind me. My breathing began to get heavier, until I knew I would have to turn around before the fear ate me alive.

So I did. I turned. Before me stood the most horrifying sight I've ever seen, something literally right out of my nightmares. One of the monsters. The lifeless eyes stared at me, and a claw grabbed at my throat. I ran, as fast as I could. I locked myself in the bathroom, heart beating, chest pounding, breath almost gone. If the bathroom had a window, I would've smashed it with all the strength I could gather.

I began frantically searching for anything that could be used as a weapon. Unfortunately for me, the sharpest stick-like thing we had was a plunger, so I didn't have a ton of options. I grabbed it anyway, and hands shaking, I opened the bathroom door and peered outside. It wasn't there, thank God. I snuck out into the kitchen. I just needed a weapon- something sharp, a kitchen knife perhaps? I was willing to try anything at this point.

I dropped the plunger as I made it into the kitchen, but as I was tiptoeing towards the cabinets, the floorboard creaked. I held my breath, and the monster snapped its head around to look at me. I held as still as possible, hoping the monster had terrible vision and couldn't detect me if I didn't move. Slowly, it seemed to limp over to where I was. My heart felt like it was about to jump out of my chest. Not that it would matter much, you don't need a heart when you're dead. It began to almost squint, and reached its arm out to grab me. I jumped toward the drawer, grabbed the biggest knife I could reach, and plunged it towards the monster. It shrieked, and moved backward. I lunged at it once more, and stabbed it in the neck.

A horrible, black substance began spraying out at me, the walls, the ceiling, everything. It wasn't even like blood, it was an inky substance that could very well clog a sink if you used it properly. Thick clots of it slowly dropped out, and the neck began patching itself. It terrified me. I screamed, and with hot tears I didn't even know were there, I flailed my arm out to stab it again. It fell, and I continued jabbing the knife into the creature. It gasped weakly, let out a small wheeze, and its blank white eyes started at me for a moment. It began to fade and screech, a horrible noise that would haunt me forever. I stuck my hand into the knife wounds and crushed the beating heart with what strength I had left. Then, it lay still, eyes open, blood dripping out. It was a horrible sight to behold.

I let out sobs, not knowing why. This creature had tried to kill me, and I took its life before it could take me. It was traumatic. I couldn't stay home if this is what were to happen. I gathered what supplies I could, a warm jacket and good shoes. Then, taking one last glance at the still body, I ran out as fast as I could.
