I'll start with the second one.

No. they simply put them in a state that they couldn't fight against them. In other words (Thank you Yellow), they paralyzed, traumatized and weakened them to the point where they didn't want to fight them.

As for the pokeball...

Each Legendary Star Guardian has a certain pokeball that is built for their legendary/mythical pokemon. It has everything that will help them further protect the pokemon, enhance their bond with them and access their abilities.

For example, Purple's (With some adjustments) has the ability to let Shandowa out without him needing to hit the button. Taen's can control the frost aura to keep Taen from overheating and other things like that. They all work together to achieve that.

Well... Pink's pokeball allows her to do this with Mew. And when it leaves her possession, she can no longer use Mew's ability to achieve this. So there you go.
