Question: What can we learn of Onyx other than what Tempesta told us?

Onyx is one of the Flowers of the Triad Wars that actually made a sub group called Willows, a more passive side to the Flowers. He has a bad case with life between being an amputee and blindness as well as Selective muteness, he has been hit by Orre's darkest hours from his childhood to joining an evil team. But deep down he is actually one of the most powerful and dangerous beings in the world.

Let's start with that first side question...

Depending on the pokemon depends on the relationship. Wispa and Darilcis bonded with him when his and Sympathy were struggling on the streets of Pyrite Town to even get food. They joined him and left their last owner, who didn't want them to evolve at all, and became his second voice and bodyguard. Sympathy was given to him as a Rockruff to become a therapy and guide pokemon for the young boy.

Now, for his medical team, many were gifts from the leader of Team Snagem when his health became really bad. Rider (Suicune) was the only one that didn't join that group; Onyx rescued it from Cipher and it instantly bonded with him.

For his Action Team, that's another story. Venusaur, Garchomp, and Malamar were all presents from his boss as their smaller evolutions. Audino and Froslass were rescued by him when a bunch of thugs were hurting the Ice type when it was a Snover.

So in summary, he bonded with all of them, some more than others.

For the second question-

His subconscious is behind. As in, while he's physically with the others in the present day, his subconscious is replaying everything terrible that happened to him. So if his family died in front of his eyes, his subconscious will not leave it alone and let that run through his head for years to come.

So he doesn't want to die. But when you subconsciously think about all the negative things of your life and they won't leave, it makes you want to die at least a little.

If not a lot.

For the final question-

It is unknown how he got here, but he was first seen as an orphan with Sympathy in Pyrite Town. He struggled to get food and oftentimes was forced to go hungry. Murmurs of his family were small, but unknown what they were.

It wasn't until Wispa and Darilcis, who were merely Eevee that wanted to evolve, did he start receiving help. They started stealing food and protecting him from thugs. He didn't understand until the Eevee's owner caught them and didn't let them go out. That's when luck entered his side as a weakened Eevee, who just wanted food, stayed with him for a little bit until the owner tried to take the duo on a walk. The trio found him trying to get food for the small Eevee, only to get denied since he had no money to pay. The owner instantly took the hungry group in and fed them before requesting they do an "Exchange" of sorts. He'd be able to take the duo Eevee that preferred him over her while she took the homeless Eevee. He agreed and the "swap" was made.

Few years later, when Onyx was getting older and was sorta making a name for himself, got caught up in some secret Cipher/Snagem business. Wispa, Darilcis and Sympathy; who were all evolved; were nearly taken from him, which caused him to freak out. Darilcis, after getting the surge from Onyx's released aura, broke the trio out and returned to his side before the evil people attacking went over. The Snagem boss gave him a chance to have a better life than his current one, which he accepts.

He becomes a secret member of Snagem, gets armed with a Snag Machine, and does his work in the dark. He actually doesn't appear the first time around like in the games. He's the last one to appear, when Cipher gets revived a third time. He first appears as the "Mayor" of the new Outcast Stop, where tired travelers and former villains go to either rest up or find work. He doesn't appear again until the final battle against Cipher when he tells the boss that he's their final opponent and that all the rest of Cipher had fallen already. He also exposes that the boss had been the reason for his hellish life, which provokes the final battle and explains the rest of Onyx's history.
