Cold Shoulder Only For You [Sonosuke Izayoi X Reader]
We're literally two/three (depending on when I publish this) episodes into the Future arc, and he's said like five lines so far, yet I'm in love with this beautiful creature that is Sonosuke Izayoi.
(l/n) = last name
(f/i/f) = favorite icecream favor
(e/c) = eye color
(f/n) = first name
"(l/n)! Come on, get on out here!"
"Oh, shut up, Ando," you responded, opening the window of your bedroom.
The girl snorted, crossing her arms and peering up at you, lilac eyes all but happy. An animal, that's what Ruruka Ando was- sharp-tongued, scathing, her very words poison to everyone's ears but a certain someone.
It just happened that that certain someone was beside her.
Without a flicker of emotion in his brown eyes, Sonosuke Izayoi's gaze lifted to state straight into yours, his lips pressed in a thin line.
But just like that, as his gaze collided with yours, it shifted to rest on Ruruka.
After a moment, you shut the window, grabbing some money, your phone, and earbuds before running downstairs.
He always cared for Ruruka. Whenever you can find him, you can find her. They're attached at the hip.
He likes her so much more better then you, there's no chance you'll ever get with him.
You had a crush on the Ultimate Blacksmith, and you weren't sure if it could get any worse. Even a mere glimpse of him got your heart racing for kilometers.
"Going out!" You yelled over your shoulder, the action followed by you slamming the door, hopping down the steps. Ruruka waited with a hand on her hip, entire body cocked to one side as she bit into one of her own candies, an orb of pink.
"About time," she huffed.
"I don't recall you ever giving me a time-limit," you retorted.
"Tch, I swear to god-"
Raising his hand, the limb coming in between you and the Ultimate Confectioner, Sonosuke cocked his head, the muted command in his eyes of you two to stop quarreling.
"Whatever," Ruruka spat, crossing her arms and facing away from you, her pink hair bobbing up and down as if it was a buoy in the sea. "It's not like it matters anyway, Yoi."
Without batting an eye, Sonosuke slid his hands into his pockets, into the same red trenchcoat he wore all day, everyday. You haven't ever seen him discard it- most likely because it was rumored he carried around dozens of weapons that were hidden among its folds.
"Um, where are we going again?"
"Icecream."
Holy crap- when was the last time I heard him speak? God, he's freakin' gorgeous.
You've had a crush on him even before he entered high-school- which was nearly ranking at three years now. He, along with Ruruka, was apart of Hope's Peak Academy, while you... you were a talentless person who just went to regular high school.
Yet, that never stopped your mind from having a crush on the boy, despite the fact both Ruruka and he showed clear interest towards each other.
As you walked, you took careful note of how Sonosuke stayed between the two of you- if Ruruka or you took a few steps ahead of the other, he would shift gears and block the space between the two of you.
In what seemed like a matter of minutes, the group of you three reached the icecream shop. Ruruka went first, jumping into her order without hesitation.
"A scoop of vanilla for one cone, and on another... Yoi, two scoops or one?"
He held up two fingers.
"Yeah, two scoops of raspberries."
"Comin' right up! And, are you going to get anything?"
The worker peered over the top of the bar at you, her head cocked to the side.
"O-Oh... I'll, um, take two scoops of (f/i/f), please."
With a nod, she went to work in the cones, handing Ruruka hers first, who accepted it with a nod and started licking the scoop as if it was the last thing in the world.
Next, Sonosuke got his, to which he only glanced at it until his eyes drifted towards you.
Under his intense gaze, you inwardly squirmed as the worker handed you your cone, fishing the crinkly money out of your pocket to slide it to her. Ruruka mirrored your action, and seemed to paid for both her and 'Yoi'.
It was only then when Sonosuke started at his cone, taking his time in licking the icecream.
If it was one thing Sonosuke retained during all your childhood years, it was his terrible, terrible sweet tooth. He just couldn't resist any candy or sweets- sure, he actually could if it called for that, but Sonosuke actually sometimes took up stress-eating, and things like that, surprising, helped him through a lot. He never lost his love for it.
As you glanced at Sonosuke, you realized that he had gotten a bit of the pink icecream on his nose, paying little to no attention to it as he walked.
Just the sight of him, his eyes closing every few moments and looking so friggin' cute caused your heart to tug, to tug towards him despite, out of all things, he had fell for Ruruka.
"Sonosuke, you've got-" you gestured with your own hand to your nose, to which he blinked, swiping one hand across his cheeks and face in attempt to wipe the frozen treat away.
To your surprise, he missed, and you giggled. "Hang on, let me help."
Running in front of him, Sonosuke paused in his tracks, waiting for you to do whatever you were going to do. Reaching up, you wiped your thumb across his nose, taking the small spot of raspberry icecream with it.
"..." With a cock of his head that seemed too smooth for human kind, a movement of pure grace, he gave you a nod of thanks.
Upon recognizing what you just did, you turned pink, heat crawling its' way up your neck like a monkey would a tree- in wild bursts.
"S-Sorry!" You squeaked.
Not a word passed through his lips before Ruruka seemed to spit into the ground in disgust. "Ugh. I can see Kimura. Rotten bitch."
You spun back around, spotting the said girl a certain distance away- Seiko Kimura was hunched over the ground, her hands flying over some sort of box as fast as a pigeon would flee from a human being.
You've never questioned Ruruka's hate for Seiko- but the only thing you yourself hated about it was the fact Sonosuke also hated Seiko because of Ruruka.
Ruruka hurried from her spot, running up to Seiko. You could only guess what venomous words slithered from the pink-haired girl's mouth. But to your surprise, Sonosuke stayed right by your side, unblinking.
"Um... so, how's your cone?"
"Good."
"Hey, uh... by the way, are you okay with me calling you Sonosuke? I have been for the past few months, but you never seemed to respond to it happily, nor ever call me by my first name..."
Sonosuke's gaze shifted from his cone to you, staring straight into your (e/c) wit his lifeless ones, a glassy film over his irises. "... I am fine with you calling me Sonosuke."
A restless breath escaped your lips, something you had been holding in without realizing in, as if you actually cared.
Then again, you did- he was your crush, for god's sake- a hopeless crush, but a crush nonetheless.
"As for your first name... I'm fine with referring you to that if you wish..."
"I think we could be considered close friends by now," you mused. "How long have we known each other again?"
"Eleven years, met in January, on the date of the 18th," Sonosuke rattled off. "You were the first to say anything... (f/n)."
There was a crunch that belonged to the cone as he bit down on it. "That's what I remember."
"O-Oh..." Unlike the Ultimate Blacksmith, you remembered little to nothing from the encounter, as it was ages ago, only a faded snippet in your memory.
Sonosuke was already half-way done with his icecream, while you hadn't even started at the crunchy cone yet, licking at it calmly.
"Should, we, uh... help her?" You asked, flicking a wrist at Seiko.
Shaking his head, not a spark of remorse in his pale eyes, Sonosuke stated, "She deserves whatever is coming towards her."
As you two spoke, Ruruka shoved Seiko, causing the pale-haired girl to stumble backwards, landing on her butt.
Without warning, you surged forward. "Hey, Ando, stop it! You've terrorized her enough!"
Yet the word themselves fell upon deaf ears as Ruruka didn't spare a glance at you, poison dribbling from her mouth as she spat it at Seiko.
"Ando!"
Nose twitching, Ruruka pulled her gaze towards you, brow furrowing as she skimmed you up and down, a dark, endless ocean in her eyes that only showed her resentment. "What?"
"Leave her alone! What did she do to you?"
"N-No, it's fine," Seiko stood, staggering to her box and shutting it, a metal clang resounding sharply. "I'll... I'll just move along."
With that, the thin and skinny Ultimate stumbled away, as if she wasn't in control of her legs. Ruruka glared at you, her lips quirked into a scowl.
"Why'd you stand up for that messed-up creature?!"
"She's a human being, just like you," you responded with a fierce look of your own, your eyebrows drawn together as you stared straight back at her.
"Tch, I would be surprised..."
Your fists tightened, the skin pulling taunt over your knuckles. "You're bullying her for no reason!"
"It's because of that weird drug she used to betray me!"
"Weird drug-! She's the Ultimate Chemist, of course she has strange drugs! You have to test out things to see if they malfunction or not!"
She opened her mouth to let loose a string of insults (which were more then likely all aimed at you or Seiko) when someone cloaked in red slid between the two of you, holding a long arm out.
"Yoi, this is my battle!"
"Stay outta this, Sonosuke!"
With a dark glower, Sonosuke picked up Ruruka, tossing her over his shoulder. His hands were empty now, which probably meant that he finished his cone.
"Stop fighting. I hate walking in on cat-fights."
With that, he turned around, Ruruka still supported on his shoulder, who cried out and banged his shoulder-blade with a clenched fist. "YOI!"
At the same time, you both wished that you were and weren't on Sonosuke's shoulders much like the Ultimate Confectioner was. Staring at the ground where the remnants of Ruruka's icecream lay like forgotten trash on the side of the roar, you followed meekly behind the two.
As you walked, you let your icecream untouched, your stomach flip-flopped as the sounds of Ruruka's fist repeatedly smashing against Sonosuke's back penetrated your thoughts, and you bit down on your lip.
"We're here at your house."
Stopping abruptly, your crush dropped Ruruka on the ground, although the sudden drop was gentle rather then rough, as you would've preferred that she broke a toe or something on the way down.
Stumbling in the slightest, Ruruka aimed another glare at you, but her face lit up like a candle as she turned to Sonosuke. "Okay, Yoi-chan, can I meet up with you later?"
Anger bubbled in the pit of your stomach as you swore you could see the signs of a smirk lingering on her lips, the -chan ringing out in your mind, but you kept the mask on, despite the pumping blood through your heart and the roar in your ears.
"... okay."
With a nod, the pink-haired girl waved at him, the tuffs on her fur around the sleeve waving slightly in the breeze before she headed up into your house.
Sonosuke turned his back to you, the tips of his cloak wavering slightly as he walked, the clomp-clomp over his large boots against the pavement evident in your ears.
"Hey... Sonosuke?"
The said teenager didn't answer.
"Sonosuke...?"
No response.
You ran up close to him, a hand about to touch his shoulder before Sonosuke whipped away from you, eyes narrowed and lips pressed into a thin line. "... no."
"N-No...?"
But it seemed that that would be all he was going to say, as Sonosuke stormed away with more force put into his steps then you thought necessary.
"Are you just going to give me a cold shoulder?!"
He didn't reply.
"Sonosuke!"
He kept walking.
"Sonosuke Izayoi!"
He didn't look back.
