Chapter 3
Unedited. If you notice something that needs fixing, let me know.
My alarm screamed.
Rolling over, I slapped it until it shut up and then laughed like the weirdo I was. My next class started in less than twenty minutes, and I had to go to this one.
I felt better than before, but still weak. The nurse said it might have been from pushing myself too far and from lack of water. I figured she was right about the whole dehydrated thing, my throat was a little hoarse. To be safe, I took a swig of water from the bottle in my bag and brushed my hair to avoid bedhead. I then smoothed my wrinkled clothes and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.
My next class was History, and then after was lunch. In my History class was Lexie, Toby and Chase. It was my favorite class, besides gym and music. When I walked in, they all pounced on me.
"Are you ok?" Lexie cried. Chase must've told them about gym.
"I'm better now," I said, "Just needed some sleep, that's all." Lexie leaned her head on my shoulder. "Ok, as long as you're ok now."
Toby walked up with a pout. "Hey! I want some of this action!" He wailed before coming to the other side of Lexie. He wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
"Hey!" I complained, jokingly, "Now I'm cold!"
A light laugh from behind gave me an uneasy feeling. "I'll keep you warm, babe, all night long." Whispered Dean into my ear. Frowning, I turned to him. He was smirking with his arms crossed. "C'mere babe." He said.
With a growl I stepped towards him when an idea popped in my head.
"I hear you aren't feeling too well, hmm? What's wrong..did you miss me too much?" He said, grinning.
"Dean," I said, trying to hide my disgust, "Baby," I choked out, purring slightly before poking his shoulder. He looked shocked, but it faded away as he smiled and reached for my waist to pull me closer.
"Want me to do that again?" I said, "The thing in the empty hallway? We got a whole class audience now." Dean snarled and snapped back, angry of my deception. But he paled and ran to his seat. I looked at my friends who looked startled.
Toby leaned to me and asked, "What exactly did you two do earlier?" The others leaned closer too to hear my reply. I laughed at my friends faces, afraid of what they were thinking.
"I kicked him where it hurts." I said. They let out a breath of relief and laughed too. Soon the teacher, Mrs. Simons got everyone in their seats and started teaching.
While she was going on about some stupid war in America, Lexie passed me a note. The only thing on it was a heart with me and Chase's initials. She has been shipping me and Chase for as long as I can remember.
I wrote "No, I told you, I don't like him like that." and sent the paper back. She frowned and shoved the paper in her bag angrily. I stifled a laugh and turned back to the teacher. She was pointing at a big timeline on the chalkboard.
The Boston Massacre? Tea Party? Didn't we already learn about these years ago? I snapped out a pencil and a blank piece of paper to sketch on. I drew quite a bit, but I never was that good. I drew a simple line, then a curve, then another. Small shapes, big ones, random lines. My hand seemed to move on it's own then. Soon a face came into the picture. A cute, boyish one. He had playful eyes full of adventure. He even had two cute little bunny teeth.
His hair fell slightly over one eye, giving a deeper look. Behind those eyes was also a hidden hotness. The boy could turn from cutie to hottie in a matter of seconds.
I smiled at the picture, it was one of my best. I guess I can draw good when I'm not drawing. I seriously never drew like this, but then again, I never really seriously draw. And I don't draw people either.
The bell rang and echoed through my ears. Class was over already? That was fast. It only felt like five minutes!
Sticking my drawing in my bag, I left class. Lexie ran to the dorms to change before meeting me at her car. She and Amelia were going to drop me off on their way out.
The ride was a quiet one. There were no good songs on the radio and Lexie was too excited to speak. Amelia on the other hand, was too nervous. Today, she paired Amelia with Fred, a nerd in her P.E class. He wasn't that bad looking though, and totally Amelia's type.
They were basically the same person!
I stayed in my uniform but the girls changed into cute tops and jeans. The snowy, cold weather didn't stay long this year and though it was still pretty cold, it didn't bother me at all. The girls always had sweaters with them for when they couldn't handle the cool air against their skin no longer. After we got to the cafe, I hopped out. The girls left and waved me goodbye before leaving me all alone.
I walked in and went to the counter where I bought a cold caramel latte before walking to an empty corner booth. It was dark and isolated, just what I liked. Not that I didn't like the light and people, but it feels nice to get away from the troubles of the world once and awhile. I took a single sip of my drink and fell in love. I also felt my dry throat coming back so I drank some more. It was on fire. I drank half of my coffee in one go before setting it back down.
"Thirsty, huh?" A voice joked. I looked up and smiled at my speaker.
"You wouldn't believe." I said, "My throat has been killing me all day."
Jungkook smiled brightly and laughed, "Sick?" he asked.
I shrugged, "Maybe, I don't know. Besides my sore throat I don't feel anything else." I didn't mention the weakness I had been feeling because it seemed to have dimmed for a moment.
He nodded and slid in the seat across from me. "So, dining alone?"
Frowning I looked to the side, "Yeah, my friends left me for their dates."
"Ouch,"
"Yeah," I said, looking at the tray in front of him. I laughed then. "You're the thirsty one!" I claimed, "You're the guy with at least ten coffees!"
Jungkook laughed too. "Nah, it's only seven." he said, "And it's for me and my friends back on campus."
I nodded, now feeling stupid. "You got a ton of friends on your first day," I pointed out.
"Actually," He said, "They're more like brothers. '형(Hyungs)' as I call them in Korea, and here too I guess. We all transferred together."
My eyes widened, "Together?" Jungkook nodded. In surprise I said, "Wow, you're all pretty lucky!"
Again he nodded, "We wanted to see what Europe was like and we already saw America, so we came here for a while."
"Cool," I said before taking another sip.
After a while of talking, we both stood up and walked out together, me asking about his '형(hyungs)' and Korea, and him answering happily.
"If you like dogs as much as you say, you should meet J-Hope 형(hyung). He has a dog named Mickey that he snuck along for the trip."
"J-Hope?" I asked, "That's an odd name."
Jungkook laughed and shook his head, "It's not his real name, he just made that up for fun I guess. I dunno, I never really asked. His real name is Hoseok."
"Oh, that makes sense." I said, "But it's still a weird name."
"Kind of." Jungkook replied, "He's not the only one that doesn't go by his real name. Suga hyung is also Min Yoongi and Rap Monster was born as Namjoon. You can call him RapMon though, that's what we do." Jungkook paused to open the door of the shop. "Jimin is Jimin just like Jin is Jin, but V? His name is Taehyung."
"Taehyung? That already has hyung in it!" I exclaim, "So, do you call him Taehyung hyung?" Me and Jungkook burst into laughter. His laugh was so cute.
"No, that would probably drive all the hyungs crazy. That's one reason we call him 'V'."
"Hyung, hyung, hyung." I said, "You say that a lot."
Jungkook looked to the parking lot, obviously searching for something. "Yeah. It's a form of respect I guess."
"Oh," I said, "So if I called people '형(hyung)' I'd be showing respect to them?"
"No, it's not like that." He said, "형 is used as a meaning of an older brother or an older male friend, but 형 is a word only used by males, like the word 노나(noona). 노나 is the exact same word except it is used for older girl friend or sister."
"Oh," I repeated, "Then what do girls say?"
He didn't answer at first because he was too busy fishing his keys from his pocket. "Um, when speaking to an older guy friend or a brother, you'd use the word '오빠(oppa)' and if it's an older sister or just a friend, you would say '언니(unnie)'."
"What if he or she was younger?" I asked. I was probably annoying him with all my questions. Am I being rude? All I do is ask questions.
" 동생 (Dongsaeng). For either gender." He said. His smile was still as bright as ever.
Smiling I repeated him, "오빠, 언니, 동생 ." I said, "Awesome."
"Yeah." Jungkook agreed, "Here, let's test your knowledge." He glanced at me, "Um..how old are you?"
I raised an eyebrow, "Fifteen, turning sixteen."
His eyes widened as if he was expecting different. He wiped that look off his face and said,
"Cool, I'm sixteen."
"So..." I said, "I'd call you..Jungkook 오빠 (Oppa)?"
An even bigger smile covered his face. He went boyish again. " Yup!" He cried excitedly. Damn he was so cute.
He walked down the parking lot as I walked down the sidewalk to school. I had about twenty minutes to get to my next class. The soft purr of an engine at my side startled me.
"Hey, need a ride?"
I looked up and smiled at Jungkook. "Sweet, thanks!"I replied as I ran to the passenger side and got in. Jungkook lifted the drink trays up and gently laid them in my lap. I held them securely. The car was a shiny black ferrari with a little red on the outside and some white. It was so cool, and no doubt expensive.
"Nice car!" I said enthusiastically.
"Thanks. My dad paid for it a while back."
As we drove, Jungkook threw a CD in the player. A sick beat played before the vocals kicked in. A male's voice blasted through the speakers.
"You know B-T-S is back!"
The rest of the song was in another language, Korean I assumed, but then it seemed to melt into English and I was able to understand most of it. I guess maybe they only wanted the first few words in Korean? Who knows.
When a sweet, boyish voice that actually deepened into a mass of hottie sang and said,
"What's wrong with you? You're crazy baby." Jungkook for some odd reason seemed proud and happier. I didn't question it, the person might be his favorite.
Eventually we got back to campus. Me and Jungkook were laughing our heads off at some joke he made. We walked in the building during a sudden announcement.
"Attention students and faculty. Because of an incident in the western wing with all the teachers, we have officially cancelled the rest of today's classes. Consider it a late holiday gift!" Mrs. Raftman, the principal, said before she got off the speaker.
"Wow," Jungkook said, "Hear that? No more classes today!"
I nodded, "Yeah, I kinda heard." I said jokingly. His face reddened. "I wonder why."
"Me too." He replied.
At the end of the hallway were two doors that led to the separate gender dorms. Right as we were about to part ways Jungkook suddenly asked, "Hey, wanna come up and hang? You can meet the others."
I gave a smile smile. Well what the heck? It won't hurt to meet the rest of the new guys I guess. Maybe I'll make more friends?
"Sure, why not?"
"Awesome! Follow me."
I followed Jungkook up the stairs and into an elevator. We took it to the fifth floor, the top floor of the dorms. In the way back of the hall were three doors on their own wall. When we got there, Jungkook knocked on the door exactly five times, like some sort of code or warning. But why a warning? To say there is a stranger in the midst? Are they hiding something? What would they hide? Drugs? Oh god I hope it's not drugs.
There was some shuffling behind the door before it opened to reveal a bunch of guys playing cards on the floor. Some were shirtless. Oh. My. God.
Awkward.
The guy that opened the door had shades of brown hair. Seeing Jungkook he nodded and broke into a grin, then he looked at me with a confused face. The rest of the boys looked up and cheered when they saw their friend with their drinks, but the cheering faltered at the sight of me.
Jungkook smiled, "Guys, meet Clara."
