Chapter 2
"Well how the hell am I supposed to know what the square root of PI is?" I shout, "I'd like to see someone use that equation during a normal day. You don't need PI for bill paying or grocery shopping! What's next, the square root of bananas?"
Lexie was on the edge of tears because she was laughing so hard and Toby was clutching his ribs. "We'll get you a tutor, sis." He laughed.
"I don't need a tutor," I grumbled, crossing my arms over my chest. All that did was make them laugh even harder.
As I stalked off to my next class, a sudden arm around my waist and a breath in my ear startled me. "Hey babe," The voice was deep, something more cliche girls seem to be into these days.
"Dean," I said, "How many times do I have to tell you to keep your hands off of me?"
Dean shrugged lightly, "None. Y'know you want me,"
I scoffed, "Nine actually. Times three." I looked at him. He was probably the hottest guy on campus if you asked anyone that wasn't me. Blonde curls, blue eyes, muscular quarterback body, a total hottie. Not to mention jerk and player. Not my type, not at all.
"You know I'm right Dean, so quit lying."
"Oh come on, babe!" He whined playfully, "You love me!"
Laughing I said, "Actually, I despise you." Dean ignored my words and started to slide his hand lower. Realizing this, I growled, "That's it!" I stuck my elbow into his stomach, twirled, then side kicked him where it hurts.
Some adrenaline. So while Dean was left groaning on the ground, I brushed myself off dramatically and continued my way to gym. I could hear Dean yelling at me from behind my back. "One day Clara!" He screamed, " You'll be on your knees begging for me baby!"
I laughed and yelled back, "In your dreams,"
Even while injured he made a cocky comeback, "Nah, you'd like to know what goes on in my dreams."
I could practically feel him winking.
Gagging, I turned down the hall into the girls locker rooms. Amelia was there along with Olivia, Sammie and Bea. There were also some other girls coming in from other entrances. I opened my locker and changed.
When I finished and left to join the class, Amelia was right behind me. The gym was huge, just like the rest of the school. Shiny wooden floors stretch across the room, making it seem brighter and bigger.
As each student filled in, we lined up against the wall and prepared for our drills. They were different each day. One day it might be running, the next might be ball tossing. It's completely random.
"Alright everyone," Coach Williams boomed, "Welcome back. I'm sure none of you exercised over break but it's a whole new year now! New methods and new strengths!"
Amelia laughed silently and leaned to me. "More like new methods of torture with Coach Sweaty." She whispered. While trying not to laugh, I stared at Coach, who now snapped his shiny bald head our way. Unfortunately, Amelia couldn't help but continue to laugh and collapsed on the floor in a fit of giggles. I clamped my hand over my mouth as everyone turned to look at her.
"Amelia Parks!" Coach bellowed, "What's so funny?" Amelia stopped laughing and turned around to see all the faces looking at her. She turned a bright red and shrunk back. The coach sneered, "How about a hundred push ups?" He looked to everyone else, "And the rest of you, a hundred laps!" The class scattered, grumbling at Amelia and blaming her for putting coach in a bad mood. Amelia laid on the ground, pushing herself back up and then down. I could see tears forming in her eyes. Not wanting to anger the coach, I started running, passing almost all the students in a few seconds.
I was one of the fastest students on campus. My dad said it was from all my years on track, but honestly, I think it only boosted my track. I circled and circled the gym, not even focusing much on it. As I finished the last few laps , my mind begin to wonder on its own and the gym faded away from my vision.
I was still running, but instead I was in a forest. The trees seemed so tall as they blurred past me, if fact, everything did. It was as if I shrunk to an ant's size! I felt so slow too even though I was obviously going faster than I usually ran. I felt like I had hardly ever ran in my life and was just learning to. Looking at my legs, I gasped. I was dressed in an old, white nightgown, It was so old, it looked like it might have been from early England times. Maybe medival, the time with castles and such. My hair, shorter but still black, tumbled and bounced in curls so shiny it was unbelievable.
There were bloodstains all over my dress along with cuts and shreds, but they looked fresh. I couldn't tell if it was mine or someone else's, I was too busy running. Suddenly I tripped and fell over a tree root and fell to the dirty ground. When I turned around my eyes heaved thousands of tears. A huge shadow stalked over to me.
I shut my eyes and screamed.
"Clara!" Someone yelled, "Clara are you ok?" I felt hands all over me while I weakly opened my eyes. The room was a bright blur, but I could still see the faces of Amelia, Chase and Coach. After the middle school dance, we still hung out and became close friends.
"I'm fine," I lied. My head was pounding and my throat was burning dry.
"You don't look fine, Clar." Chase muttered, "You just hit the floor and started screaming."
Ignoring the pain and dizziness, I sat up. "No really, I'm fine." Chase looked at me wearily and helped me up.
"Ok," he said, "But go see the nurse later, alright? You look pale, well, ..paler"
I nodded and said, "Promise," before letting him get me all the way to my feet. Coach made me change back into my school clothes and sit on the sideline for the rest of class. I drank a big bottle of water to sooth my throat. I was so confused on what happened and now I felt like crap. I must have tripped and smashed my head on the floor or something, I thought. That's gotta be why my head hurts, and I guess I screamed in pain? With a shrug I continued to watch the rest of class. Occasionally Amelia and a few others would come check up on me. At the end, when everyone went to the locker rooms, Coach came over.
"Now get some rest," he said, "I don't want my star girl on the bench." I smiled and nodded before leaving.

I hopped in by the nurse who gave me some pain pills and more water before I was ushered out. She said I should just relax in my room for the next hour or two. My next class was a free hour so I had no worry, and then I had advanced chemistry. Even though I sucked at regular chemistry, I was given the advanced. The nurse gave the chemistry teacher my pass. I was just barely passing, so I would need to get notes off of someone tomorrow when I go back. I slowly walked my way back to my dorm, leaning against the wall every now and then for support. I probably looked like a drunk.
Soon, as I was just exiting the main class building to the dorms, I crashed and walked into a wall before falling to the floor. Or at least, I thought it was a wall.
"I'm so sorry miss." Someone murmured. Their voice was deep, but not too deep. It was kinda boyish and cute and there was something about it that made my heart race. That voice was totally drool worthy. I looked up in confusion and shock.
Standing over me was a tall hottie. He had light/dark brown hair that kind of swept over one of his deep, chocolate eyes and a pale skinned body. He looked kind of boyish, but also a total mega hottie. He reminded me of someone, but not anyone I could remember. This boy was unbelievably cute. I continued to stare at him, but stopped when I realized he was staring back at me. Feeling heat in my cheeks, I looked down at my feet and remembered I was on the floor.
"It's alright," I said, "I'm pretty clumsy and wasn't paying much attention." The boy smiled revealing two cute bunny teeth that shined perfectly white. He grabbed my hand and helped me up, then bent back down to grab my fallen bag.
"I wasn't paying attention either." He said as he gave me the bag.
"Thanks," I murmured, still in a trance from his beauty, or the effects of the incident earlier.
"I'm Jeon Jungkook," He said, "I just transferred here today from South Korea. I'll be here for a few weeks."
"That's cool!" I exclaimed, "Wait, so your name is Jungkook right? I heard in Korea they put last names first."
He nodded, "Yup,"
"Nice," I said, "I'm Clara, Clara Albus."
Jungkook smiled again, "Nice to meet you, Clara. I got to go to my first class with.." He looked at a piece of paper in his hand. "Mr. T...it's a math class."
I pointed out a door at the end of the hall.
"Sweet," He muttered, "Thank you! Bye!"
As he walked away I turned and continued my way to the dorms, feeling even weaker with each step. Once I got in my room I hit my bed and almost instantly fell asleep.
But I was still thinking about the new boy.
