Chapter 15

Here's a reminder that Grigio is not an OC.

Reborn was watching the affairs of his pupil.  They weren't great. His student was passed out on the ground, in his boxers, and a murderous man just waiting to kill him. The only reason he was still alive was because of the man called Degli. Almost all the guardians were cured, but Takeo was down and neither party has the full Sky ring.

It was all up to Degli now...

Hibari lifted his tonfas. The ends released a sort of spike connected to the metal tonfas by a chain.

Once released, Hibari used the chains to swing the spikes at the end, creating what seemed like a solid metal circle. Hibari rushed towards Bel, who was definitely not ready.

"I pass!" Bel yelled, trying to get away. "This is a group battle; I'm going to get the other rings!"

Bel ran.

"Hmph."

.....

Degli walked towards Xanxus. "Ah, excuse me, dear sir," he said in a mocking tone. "Would you be so kind as to leave the unconscious kid alone and hand me your half of the ring? Please and thank you."

"No."

"Hm. Didn't think that would work. It was worth a try."

"What do you want?"

"Why, I just want the success of my allies. It seems I must fight you, now." Degli took the chain to hold the rings from Takeo, along with half of the sky ring itself, and turned to face Xanxus. "Well, let's get this over with." He lit his gloves and entered hyper dying will mode.

Xanxus grinned (quite creepily, might I add). He wasted no more time; using his dying will guns, he went on the attack, quickly firing a succession of shots, all of which Degli easily evaded.

The same procession of events went on over and over for quite some time, until the one not on the attack decided to turn the tides to his favor. With half of the ring hanging from a chain around his neck, and the other not too far away, Degli felt a connection between the soul of his ancestor and himself. The older soul told him something. He was to attack, using Primo's 'Zero Point Breakthrough', and luckily Primo himself just told him how.

Upon bringing his hands together, touching his forefingers and thumbs, he attempted the attack no one but Primo or Nono had ever used. Although he had no practice before this battle, the flame on his forehead began to flicker, faster and faster, then froze in a failed attempt.

Xanxus, who was surprisingly patiently waiting, waited no longer, and charged his gun to fire. In a panic, Degli quickly tried again, though this time bringing his hands to a different position: that of a rectangle.

No words were spoken as Xanxus fired and everyone watching held their breath in anticipation of what came next. Degli had not moved out of the way, and a cloud of smoke seemed to hang over the battle. Once cleared, one could see the cloaked man, harmed in no way. Everyone seemed shocked by this, even Degli himself.

"That... wasn't supposed to happen," Degli said in amazement. He quickly composed himself and grinned. "I'll take it."

Xanxus recovered soon after, and grit his teeth, filled with newfound determination to not only defeat, but destroy the man in front of him.

Never before had Degli seen such a malicious expression directed towards him. His grin grew wider, as he did the thing any 'sane' person such as himself would do: he threw a taunt at Xanxus. "Ooh, did I make someone mad?"

If he hadn't already been ready to rip Degli's head straight from his shoulders, Xanxus definitely was now. The strength he saw in that one display of power was already so well refined, and already so obviously stronger than his own. That wouldn't stop Xanxus from trying to beat the hell out of him, though.

Intense battle began again, and with each time Xanxus fired, Degli used the same defense technique, occasionally trying the other formation, succeeding a little more each time.

Back in the audience, people could barely follow the fight; it was moving too fast for any normal human's eyes to follow. Luckily, Reborn wasn't a normal human.

Reborn was able to keep up with the battle perfectly, his eyes especially watching Degli's hands. He noticed every time the rectangle formation was used, the 'I' on the glove would momentarily change to an 'X', reverting back in a split second. As he wondered what that could possibly mean, he noticed one other thing--how exactly the defensive move was being carried out. Whether Degli knew it or not, he was converting his positive dying will energy into negative dying will energy, called being in the 'Minus zone'. This enabled his to absorb the attacks made by Xanxus. It was clear that Degli would most likely win, as long as he could keep doing this, more so if he was able to perfect the First edition of Zero Point Breakthrough in a short amount of time.

Eventually, the fight began slowing down, both parties were clearly exhausted. Xanxus fired one more attack, which Degli had dodged. Neither had the energy to carry on, but both were set on winning. What no one knew, however, was that Xanxus had one more trick up his sleeve.

This last resort, as he called it, was only to be used if he was not able to defeat his enemy, courtesy of Uomo Grigio. He now held something in his hand that resembled a  pager. He pressed a single button, and all that was left to do was wait.

During the waiting, an intense stare down occurred, both sides slightly panting and glaring. Before the staring contest winner could be decided, a loud voice shattered the silence that stood.

"HELLLLOOOOOO NAMIMORI!" A silhouette of a person stood on the roof of the school, holding what seemed to be a megaphone by his mouth. "You may be wondering why I so rudely interrupted your little competition. Well, I came with some news!" The person said in a perky tone. "Your fight will now be over! Your beloved hacker will be going to Vendicare prison for almost all of eternity. Well, that concludes what all I have. Have a nice day!"

As if responding to a call to the stage, the Vindice appeared through a portal of smoke. "Degli 27," the tall one with the wavy black hair said. "You have broken the rule for the last time."

"What?" He answered smartly.

"You have violated Vindice law. For the extremity in which you have done so, you are sentenced to 500 years in Vendicare."

"Uh... No?" He looked desperately for a way out of the situation, finding one possible way to go. Didn't that guy say he had to go to the future anyway? He took off in a sprint (he had thankfully regained some of his energy for this endeavor) and skidded to a halt beside an unconscious cow child. He stuck his hand into the somehow endless mass of curly black hair to find what he was looking for: the Ten Year Bazooka. Without further ado, he shot himself ten year into the unknown future in a measly attempt to escape the Vindice.

He was not prepared for what he saw when the pink smoke cleared.
