Chapter 20. Dreams and wishes
The sky was clear, showing the stars, the moonlight showing the way to the figure dressed in black clothes and a mask, who was sneaking into Dr. Roberts place in the middle of the night, with dark intentions.
It was four in the morning and the neighborhood was asleep. While most people were resting in their beds, in a lonely and impersonal room a tiny, blonde girl tossed and turned in hers, a nightmare tormenting her sleep.
The figure, no more than a shadow in the darkness, managed to open the front door of the house without making any noise or tripping the alarm. Walking up the stairs the intruder went straight to the room where the girl slept. The plan was simple: go in, plant the package, and get out.
Walking into the room on silent feet so as not disturb the sleeping figure in the bad, the intruder stopped short to observe the girl. Her breathing was erratic making her chest raise and fall rapidly. Her pajamas were composed by black pants and a tight t-shirt with a pink heart in the front. Her blankets had fallen to the ground, which could explain why she was shaking, but it didn't explain the sweat dotting her forehead.
She made a strangled noise in her throat and turned on her side, one hand clutching her pillow the other clenched over the bed linens, her distress obvious.
The figure dropped the package in the desk and stepped closer to the bed, bending down he picket the blankets from the floor and put them over the girl. Her trembling diminished a little with the cover over her body but she was still distressed.
Removing his shoes and the mask, the intruder made a quick decision. He slipped into the bed and pulled her to him, his arms going around her, one under her head and the other over her waist, his hand rubbing circles in her back. He threw one of his legs over hers; hopping his closeness would give her some comfort and stop her nightmare. He didn't want to wake her. People tended to react bad when they were awoken from nightmares, and she could freak out at seeing him in her room.
His idea seemed to work, her body, which had been tense, slowly relaxed against his, her hands went to his chest, her head buried itself in his neck. The feel of her breath on his flesh tickled, her warm body against his drew a reaction he tried to suppress.
He'd stay with her for a while before getting back up to complete his mission.
Holding the tiny bombshell in his arms while she slept he couldn't stop himself from dreaming about being able to do so with frequency one day. He would love to be able to come home to her, hold her, love her and even just sleep with her, like he was now. He closed his eyes to better imagine their future together and fell asleep.
......
A warm weight over her body and the strong smell of vanilla were the first things Sang noticed when she woke up the next morning. She'd slept surprisingly well after her first nightmare and was now feeling very lazy and happy. She didn't want to get up, she thought, still half-asleep.
The feel of air shifting on her throat and the strange weight over her body however, made her wake up. Opening her eyes she was met with long blonde hair. Hair that didn't belong to her...
Her eyes widened and her body went stiff, her heart beating a mile a minute. A thousand thought went through her head. Intruder, rapist, thief, pervert.
The man had his face buried in her neck, his chest covering half of her body, his muscular arms and legs hugging her tight to him, as if she were a tree and he a koala.
She panicked. Raising her knee, which was conveniently between his legs, she kneed him. Grunting in pain the stranger let her go to grab himself, rolling onto his back.
She jumped out of the bed and reached for the baseball bat Silas had given her when they had gone out with Nathan and Kota a few days ago. Turning back to her intruder she saw that he was still on the bed, his hands clutching his hurting pride and his face screwed in pain.
Looking at his face she dropped the bat.
"Oh my God! Luke!" She exclaimed, running to his side of the bed. She bent over him, her hands frozen in the air. She wanted to help him but didn't know how.
His eyes opened a tiny sliver and he smiled up at her.
"Good one, Cupcake." He gasped. His face contorted in pain again.
She cringed "I am so sorry! I didn't know it was you, Luke! I swear!" She clutched her hands together to keep from touching him. "Please, please, forgive me?" she begged.
He turned on his side toward her, his hands still between his legs. His eyes opened, mischief shining in them "I'll forgive you with one condition." He said, the smile on his face decidedly dangerous.
She gulped in nervousness and trepidation at what he might ask her. She'd do it no matter what, she told herself.
Seeming to read the thoughts running through her mind, Luke's face softened. Sitting up on her bed he reached for her hips and made her sit sideways on his lap, his arm at her back, a hand holding on to her waist so she wouldn't fall. His other hand went to her chin, making her meet his eyes.
Looking into chocolate brown eyes Sang felt herself calming down. This was Luke, her friend; he wouldn't ask anything bad from her. She felt safe in his arms and relaxed against him, her hands in her lap.
"My wish..." He began, his fingertips removing the hair that had fallen over my face, tucking it behind my ear. "...is that the next time you have a bad dream you will call me."
My eyes widened at the realization that he knew about my weakness. I blushed and ducked my head, hiding on his chest. I felt his fingers moving to my hair, combing through the strands in a soothing motion. He didn't force me to look at him again, he just gave me all the comfort I ever wished for.
He lowered his head, his breath warming the side of my face. "If you let me," He murmured, his lips moving over my ear, making me shiver, "I will come over then. I will lay here in this bed and hold you all night long, keeping you safe." He pressed a kiss to my temple. My heart was beating so fast I swore he could hear it. "I'll hug you tight so you know you are not alone, I will fingers through your hair so you know I care, I will do anything you want." He pressed another kiss to my brow, his hand still moving through my hair, his arm a warm weigh against my waist, holding me securely to him.
Taking in a deep breath my lungs filled with the scent of vanilla. He was as sweet as he smelled. Putting my hands on his chest I leaned away a little and raised my head. Looking into his eyes I felt my breath catch in my throat. His chocolate brown eyes gazed at me with such caring and... and... was that love?
I didn't know. No one had ever loved me before. I couldn't look at him, his eyes were too much. I leaned closer, closing my own and kissed his cheek. He sucked in a deep breath but stayed still as I let my lips trail over his face, pressing kisses everywhere except for his mouth, I didn't have the guts for that yet.
His hand tightened in my hair, holding me in place. "Sang..." his voice was low and deep murmur, resonating in my heart, making it flutter.
"Sweetheart..." He kissed my brow, "My dream..." my cheeks, "My reality..." my eyes, "My always" and the tip of my nose. Every word, every endearment he uttered were a shot straight to the heart. I had never been anyone dream, sweetheart, reality and no one wanted me forever. When I thought he was finally going to kiss my mouth however, his phone rang.
We jumped. Me almost falling from his lap, only his arm that was still around me kept me in place.
He removed his hand from my hair and pulled his phone from his back pocket and groaned. "It's Kota. And we are late." he said to me before answering his phone.
Today I would be going to the college with the guys. Since I didn't have an ID I couldn't enroll on it, but nothing impeded me from watching the classes I wished or making use of the facilities. Thanks to the academy I had free access.
With as many strange and different interests as I had, I wasn't going to follow the normal schedule of any of the courses offered there. Instead my schedule was completely crazy, with classes of varied subjects:
First class: Human Anatomy. Room 201 - Dr. Sean Green
Second class: Anthropology. Library – Mr. Blackbourne
Third class: Dietary techniques with Luke. Laboratory C1 – Ms. Smith
Fourth class: Mechanical Engineering I. with North. Room 304 – Mr. Gerald
Fifth class: Advanced Operating Systems with Victor. Room 306 – Mr. Morris
Lunch
Sixth class: Self-defense and exercise. Gym A1 – Nathan and Silas
Seventh: Advanced chemistry with Kota and Gabriel – Laboratory A1– Ms. Johnson
It was going to be a long day. Getting up from Luke's lap he shot me a sad look while talking with Kota on his phone. Getting my clothes I headed to the bathroom, locking the door behind me, I turned on the shower.
Taking a quick shower I got out and dressed myself. Today I was wearing a simple, white sundress with a dark green coat. I left my hair loose because I knew Meanie would just steal my clip and I had only a few left.
Coming out of the bathroom I saw that Luke had disappeared. Probably gone in search of breakfast. I went to my desk to grab my bag when I saw a package sitting on top of it. Observing the package I saw a note that had fallen on the desk. Taking it I read "For our Princess".
My eyebrows shot up. My shower had woken me enough that I had started to question what Luke had been doing in my room in the middle of the night. I had planned on interrogating him when I came out but now I could guess what he... they were all about.
They knew my difficulty with accepting gifts from them, especially pricey ones, which must be why Luke tried to sneak it into my room. I stared at the gift with wariness, taking notice of the size and shape, I gulped.
Opening it I saw that I had been right in my guess. They bought me a laptop. A pink one, and it looked to be the latest model.
I gulped again, a smile blooming in my face before taking out my phone so I could send a text.
Sang: Thank you, Victor! <3
Victor: You are welcome, Princess.
Walking downstairs I went into the kitchen and grabbed an apple and a bottle of Frappuccino before getting out of the house. Kota's car was already on the front drive, just waiting for me.
I could see he on the drive seat, looking out the window at his house. Nathan and Luke were on the back seat, leaving the front one for me. Luke caught my eye as I approached the vehicle and winked at me. I blushed redder than a fire hydrant. We had spent the night in the same bed, snuggling and he'd almost kissed me.
I had almost kissed Kota once too, and I was falling for all of these boys. I didn't know how to choose just one or stop my feelings from growing.
What do I do? Should I leave them?
......
Dropping a bundle of papers on his desk top Owen Blackbourne sat behind it and started to mess with his computer.
Sean Green, who shared the same office as him in the campus was leaning back on his chair, his feet on the table his head throw back, a snore coming out of his open mouth every few seconds.
As usual, his friend had spent more time working than he should. Sean focus on his work was good, especially considering his profession, but he also need to learn his own limits.
Owen had done his best but his friend was too good at thwarting his efforts.
The sound of a stampeding herd in the hallway made the doctor wake up with a jump, almost falling from his chair.
"WHAT? What?" he asked, clearly disoriented, his hands going to his desk so he could stop himself from falling to the ground.
"Only a few students rushing in the hall, Sean." Said the always calm and collected Mr. Blackbourne, without taking his steel grey eyes from the monitor.
Sean grunted. "You would think that a bunch of college students would behave better than high schoolers, but it clearly isn't the case. They are all a bunch of animals." He dropped his head to the desk, closing his eyes while considering taking another nap. He'd slept only five hours this time.
"You should wake up. Miss Sang and the boys will be here soon." Came the remark from his friend. Hearing the tiny beauty' name made Sean raise his head from the desk and smile a completely dopey smile. Knowing that he was about to see Sang was just what he needed to make him recover some of his usual energy.
"Pookie is starting today! I almost forgot!" He would be her teacher for Human Anatomy I. He started to mentally rub his hands in glee. There were so many ways he could make her blush during that class.
Owen turned on his chair and looked at his friend with suspicion. "Don't you dare Sean! Whatever is going through that mind of your, I am sure it's not appropriate! " his voice rang with irritation.
Sean pouted, he knew he couldn't do anything too blatant or even too often. People would notice if he kept making his favorite student blush in class. But he loved annoying Owen. He never showed so much emotion as when he was irritated. Or when Pookie is around...
"Sean..." came the stern warning. He grinned at his friend, not the least bit afraid, which only caused Owen to be even more irritated.
"Don't be so stuffy O-man! We are going to get lucky today!" Sean said with a wink directed at the stern face of his best friend.
Sighing in exasperation Owen turned back to his computer before saying "Try not to be arrested."
"Well, well, my dear fellow, be it so. We have shared the same room for some years, and it would be amusing if we ended by sharing the same cell." Sean quoted, from one of their favorite books.
"I have no wishes to see the inside of a cell ever again, Sean." He retorted.
"Of course not! Why should you when you can see little Pookie instead?" Asked Sean while smiling happily. Then his eyes widened and started bouncing on his chair. "Maybe we should invite her for dinner! And movies!"
"Dinner and movies imply that we want more than simple friendship from her. It is too soon, yet. We can't push her." Said Owen, without taking his eyes from his computer.
His happy bouncing stopped with his friend's denial. "But... but... we never see her Owen!"
"We are seeing her today." He answered. Then suddenly he smiled and turned to face a stunned Sean. "I believe, my good doctor, that if you wish to see our darling Miss Sang then you must take time off from your work and go to her."
"Ha! Nice try, Owen. I can't take time off, however, and you know it." Sean grumbled.
Glaring at his stubborn friend Owen said. "What I do know is that you are overworking yourself and will end up making mistakes sooner or later because of it. You need to stop."
"And you need to stop trying to control everything, Owen!" Sean snapped.
Owen frowned at him. "I am not trying to control you! I am just worried about your health."
Huffing Sean got up from his chair and headed for the door. "Whatever, Owen!" he left banging the door closed behind him.
Sighing in tiredness and exasperation Owen turned back to his computer, and worried frown etched on his face.
I wish Sang was here right now...
