Y/n, after talking to Monkey King for a quick moment, followed after Mk, but quietly. He followed Mk to Macaques dojo, keeping himself hidden as he waited for the two to leave.

He knew something was going to happen. He had to be there to stop it, or at least hold it off until Monkey King would get there.

______

Mk followed Macaque up the steps, nearly falling as he tripped over a rock. He caught himself on the large bolder. They were in an old mountain range, and the mountain they were on now held that large monster Mk had tried to fight days ago. Macaque stopped in front of him, looking at it before turning back to him.

"The smoke monster is actually an ancient demon. It is a very, very powerful one. And we need to destroy it." Macaque put a hand on Mks back, shoving him forward.

"Wait, what? Last time, I couldn't even hit it!" Mk says. There was no way he was going to be able to defeat that thing.

Macaque scoffed.

"Totally." Macaque looks at Mk again, smiling.

"But since then, you've had me training you! You're stronger now, don't you feel stronger?" He says, putting his hands on Mks shoulders. Mk is hesitant.

"I guess.."

"Remember, you are the weapon! Give it everything you got!" Macaque says before shoving him forward towards the smoke demon. Mk takes a deep breath.

"Here comes.." He slams the staff on the ground, shooting into the air. "Monkey Kid."

He says before making the staff larger and trying to hit it. The force of air around them makes the wind fly back against his face as he tries to break through whatever barrier the smoke monster is keeping up to hold Mks staff back.

"I am the weapon!" He yells. Suddenly, he gasps once he sees that smoke Monster shift forms in a cloud of purple smoke, looking like a larger version of Macaques shadow.

"Heh.." Macaque grins as he appears right in front of Mk. His right eye has a large scar over it, the eye itself white. The other is glowing purple.

Mk gasps, feeling the air get knocked out of him when Macaques fist connects with his stomach, and it feels like his energy disappears. He lands on the ground, staggering and coughing. Wheezing almost.

He feels a hand on his shoulder.

"Y'know, you really are a good kid." Macaque says, sinking into a shadow. "Super nice!" He laughs.

The smoke monster appears behind him, and Mk can't help but see the resemblance now as he struggles to get up. Macaque holds up what seems to be a ball of flames in the shape of an egg, and Mk realizes it looks a lot like a stone egg, a form he used against the Bull King. Macaque closes his hands around it, and everything gets blasted back as Macaques body is surrounded by beams of power that slowly turn purple and shoot into his body.

Mk feels the air get knocked out of him again when his back slams against the mountain, creating a crater, and the staff hits his chest. He tries to grab it and lift it off of him, but it's stuck. He panics, struggling as Macaque hovers in front of him.

"Thank you. For giving me all of Monkey Kings powers." Macaque chuckles, leaning back.

"Oho- no! Can't you hold the magic staff anymore?" He slams the staff against the mountain further, causing Mk to wince in pain.

"Well, you know what that means! There's really nothing special about you. You're just some kid with a heavy stick!" He laughs, mocking Mk.

"You son of a–" a foot slams into Macaques side, knocking him into a nearby mountain, slamming him through it.

"Y/n!" Mk yelled, relieved, smiling as Y/n landed in front of him. He gasped when he noticed Y/ns foot was no longer bandaged. Did that mean it was healed?

"Mk.." Y/n says, causing Mks eyes to snap up and meet Y/ns harsh, firm glare.

"Ah!" Mk yelped at the harsh glare. 'He's mad at me!' He inwardly cried.

Y/n grit his teeth as Macaque emerged from the broken hole in the mountain, chuckling.

"Well, look who finally showed his face." Macaque grinned, shooting off the mountain.

His fist slammed into the (color) force field Y/n put up just as he aimed to hit him. The force caused the wind to pick up as Macaque slowly forced his arm through, slowly breaking it.

Though he was taken aback when Y/n suddenly willed it away, his fist connecting to Macaques stomach, slamming him into the other side of the mountain they were on.

Macaque laughed, picking himself up.

"Using your speed in your arms! Aren't you a prize!" Macaque shot forward again, his fists being caught by Y/ns own. A blast of (color) following after.

"Ohh, but your body is too weak to handle it, isn't it? Your shaking.." Macaque said softly, grinning as Y/ns arms shook. Y/n winced when Macaque pushed harder, causing Y/n to be slightly pushed back, his foot skidding across the ground as he tried to hold himself up and keep Macaque at bay, causing another blast of wind.

Y/n held firm. However, as Macaques face came closer to his.

"Y/n!" Mk yelled when Macaque shoved Y/n down, causing a large blast that made Mk close his eyes to block himself from the force of the wind and light beaming around them.

When he opened his eyes, he could see Macaque hovering over Y/n with his fist connected to his stomach, the ground broken and cracked around them.

"Stay. Down." Macaques grin was gone. His tone threatened. Y/n coughed, the air being knocked out of his lungs. Macaque stood up, looking at Mk, who was struggling to lift the staff off him.

"Now to deal with the kid." He said, stepping over Y/n and beginning to walk over to Mk.

Y/n wheezed, unable to catch his breath. But then he remembered what Monkey King said during one of their sparring matches. "Focus. Inhale slow, then exhale. Focus on breathing and not catching your breath."

Y/n closed his eyes and inhaled slowly before exhaling, doing it a couple of times before he soon felt his lungs go back to normal. He groaned, feeling like a rib was broken as he gripped the ground and forced himself up. He saw Macaque get closer to the kid. Using a burst of speed, he started counting.

"One." He kicked Macaque in the side, knocking him to the side and forcing him to slam his foot down into the ground to stop himself.

"Two." He put up a force field around Mk, who was still struggling.

"Three.." He kicked off the ground, rapid kicking Macaque in the air, who blocked each one, but each with a grunt of pain as Y/n only put more force into his legs.

"Four." He started to run out of breath again, but he didn't care. He only focused on making sure Macaque wasn't going to get to Mk before Monkey King arrived.

"Five." His back hit the stone of the mountain, but in turn, he punched Macaque and sent him flying.

"Six!" He closed his fist, causing the nearby rocks to shoot off and destroy the clones. Macaque formed through the shadows that tried to hold Y/n down.

Mk watched, struggling to lift the staff. Watching as bursts of (color) and purple shot around.

'He's holding him back even with Monkey Kings powers! And I can't even lift the staff! Ahh, what do I do!? Y/n, what can I do!?' He thought in a panic, tears filling his eyes.

Suddenly, before Macaque could get up and attack him again, he was knocked back. Y/n groaned, exhausted and out of breath as Monkey King finally showed up.

"Took you long enough.." Y/n muttered as Monkey King helped him up and gently set him to lean against a slab of broken stone.

"Sorry." Monkey King said, frowning as he watched Y/n wheeze and grab heard his chest.

"Monkey King!" Mk yelled, and Monkey King turned and glared at him. But Mk didn't know that both of them, despite being mad, were glad he was okay. Mostly okay, at least.

Mk winced. 'Ah, they're both mad at me!' He inwardly whined, feeling a bead of sweat dripping down his forehead.

"Monkey King!" Macaque yelled in mock glee as he dusted himself off, stretching his arms and putting his hands behind his back.

"Great to see ya, bud! Heh." He chuckled.

Monkey King scoffed.

"Are you ever going to get sick of living in my shadow?" Monkey King glared at him, stepping forward.

"It's time to give back what you stole."

Macaque hovered in the air, purple energy sizzling around his body.

"You are such a gem. It's going to be so satisfying killing you with your own powers!" Macaque said before they both shot at each other. Gold and purple light flashed as they fought.

Y/n wheezed, starting to hyperventilate as he struggled to catch his breath. His chest and torso hurt. He can already feel the bruising and maybe some blood from being knocked into a few sharp slabs of stone a few times. He looked over at Mk, who was looking at him in concern.

"Kid, are you hurt?" Y/n asked, wheezing and coughing. Mk quickly shook his head.

"N-No! Just got the wind knocked out of me a few times. I'm okay! Y/n!" He teared up, panicked seeing Y/n struggling to stand.

"Good, good. I'm fine.. I just need to catch my breath, kid.." Y/n says, taking a few deep breaths, he felt his side where he knew the blood was coming from and felt relieved when it was just a small scratch that had already stopped bleeding.

He slowly made his way over to where Mk was stuck, reaching out to grab the staff. His hand almost touched it until the ring on his index finger started to glow, and it felt like something was keeping Y/n from grabbing the staff and helping Mk. Whenever he moved his hand closer, the ring glowed and fizzled with sparks of energy, shooting up his spine and causing him to take a step back.

"Are you kidding me.." Y/n grit his teeth, feeling anger bubble up. Of course, there was something Macaque hadn't told him about the damn ring! He took his other hand off from holding his side and tried to take off the ring, but it glowed brightly and refused to budge.

"Y-Y/n? What's wrong?" Mk asked, gripping the staff with his hands as he tried to push it off.

"Nothing, Mk.." Y/n grit his teeth, taking a deep breath.

He turned around and instead held his hand out and put off a force field, covering both him and Mk as Macaque flew back over, forming into the large smoke monster.

"Sorry, kid. It's nothing personal!" Macaque yelled, hovering inside the giant form, lifting his fist and sending it towards them. Y/n blinked when he felt the ground disappear under his feet. He looked down and saw an inky black and purple shadow under him.

Mk yelled out when Y/n sunk into it, disappearing. He let out a sigh of relief when Y/n fell out of one a few feet away, landing on the ground. Y/n was confused.

"What the hell was that..?" He muttered. Suddenly, they both saw Monkey King fly over and catch the large shadow demons fist, holding it back from hurting Mk.

"Come on! Show me the real Sun Wukong! The old you would've leveled this whole mountain range just to stop me! But you're scared of hurting some kid? Pathetic!" Macaque yelled, shoving his fist harder, but Monkey King held it back.

Mk continued to struggle, lifting the staff, and he gave up.

"I can't lift it. I'm not strong enough.."

"Kid! We are definitely going to he having some words later, but–" He grunted, struggling to hold the shadow form back.

"It's time for the hero stuff!" Monkey King yelled. Mk gasped, gritting his teeth as he gripped the staff, golden sparks of energy emitting from his body and the staff as he did.

"Come on!" Mk yelled, pushing off, and he and the staff fell to the ground. Y/n stood up, walking over to Mk and helping him up.

"You got it, kid." Y/n said softly, and Mk smiled a little, grabbing the staff from the ground, remembering Monkey Kings words.

"Patience! Focus!" Mk quickly got into position as he finally lifted the staff. "Step into the strike!" He yelled out, throwing the staff towards Macaque, effectively cutting the shadow in half before the staff flung back to him, and he caught it. Y/n was quick to cover Mk as an explosion went off as the shadow form was destroyed.

Monkey King ran over to them, one hand covering Mks head, the other covering Y/ns head as he blocked them from getting hit with debris.

"You did it, bud."

Monkey King said as he bandaged Y/ns torso. Y/n was a little red in the face at the fact that he didn't have a shirt on at the moment, but he looked away, letting Monkey King work. He had a large bruise near his chest, but thankfully, no broken bones from what they could tell. He had an equally big bruise on his back as well as a few large and small gashes on his sides, but nothing too bad since they were already done bleeding and weren't too deep.

Mk sat beside them, holding the staff in his hands, a look of sadness on his face. And guilt.

"I'm sorry.." Mk said softly. Monkey King gave Mk a look.

"Oh, you totally should be!" He said, huffing, "I can't believe you two-timed me on your training!" He scolded. Mk winced at every word, frowning harder. Y/n looked back at Mk, holding his hand.

"I just wanted to be good enough.. like you.." Mk said, looking up at Monkey King before looking back at the staff.

Monkey Kings face fell, and he sighed, wrapping an arm around Mks shoulders once he was done bandaging Y/n.

"Hey," he said softly, patting Mks shoudler and pulling Mk into a side-hug. "Your hearts in the right place, bud. We can work on the rest."

Monkey King smiled at him. Y/n was busy trying to put his shirt and jacket back on. He moved to sit a little further away from them as he did so, feeling slightly embarrassed. He grabbed his scarf after he put his shirt and jacket back on, putting the scarf on as well as he watched Mk rest his head on Monkey Kings' shoulder.

"So.. you'll keep training me?" Mk asked, sounding hopeful, eyes lighting up. Monkey King chuckled.

"Of course, bud!" He nodded. Y/n rolled his eyes, holding down a smile at the heart-felt moment between student and mentor.

He felt a tail wrap around his middle gently, lifting him up and setting him right beside Monkey Kings right. An arm wrapped around his shoulders.

"You get in on this too, Y/n!" Monkey King laughed at Y/ns flushed, embarrassed face. Mk laughed, smiling as he wiggled out of Monkey Kings' grasp, setting the staff down on the ground as he nearly tackled Y/n, too.

"Aww yeah! Hug time!" Mk said, rubbing his cheek on Y/ns. Y/n gave up shoving them away and sighed.

"You two are the worst." He groaned, only for them to laugh. 'No sense of personal space at all..' He thought, but he didn't hate it. Not at all.

After a few minutes, they let him go, and Y/n was now sitting between Mk and Monkey King. Mk frowned, grabbing Y/ns hand.

"I'm sorry for saying you didn't understand.. and I'm sorry for dragging you into this too and making you meet Macaque and all that stuff.." Mk said softly. Y/n sighed, squeezing Mks hand.

"It's fine. But you are definitely going to be staying at mine for the next week. I can't trust your reckless ass!" Y/n scolded, flicking Mk in the forehead. Mk smiled.

"Yay! Sleep over!" Mk laughed happily, hugging him around the shoulders again. Y/n let it happen, rolling his eyes.

Monkey King watched with a bright smile.

"I didn't say you could stay!" Y/n yelled as Monkey King munched in a bag of peach chips on his couch.

"What? I figured the invite was for the both of us." Monkey King said, mouth full of chips. Y/n groaned, sitting down on his couch as Mk rummaged through his kitchen for snacks.

"How are your injuries holding up?" Monkey King asked softly, making sure Mk wouldn't hear. Y/n shrugged.

"Hurts. But at least nothing's broken." He sighed, unable to lean on his back since the bruise ached awful bad, especially on his chest. He could still remember the impact of being slammed onto the ground, fist to his gut. He winced.

"Get some rest." Monkey King whispered, tail wrapping around Y/ns waist to move him to lean against Monkey King. Y/n scoffed.

"You are so annoying." He muttered, already closing his eyes as his hand gripped his necklace. He leaned on Monkey Kings' shoulder, sighing.

"Uh-huh.." Monkey King hummed, shoving another chip in his mouth.

He glared at the dark shadow in the corner of the dark lit living room. The shadow grinned before sinking and disappearing. Monkey King glanced at Mk and made sure he was fine before sighing.

He wasn't going to let this happen again.
