Y/n sat outside, sitting on the side of the hill next to his home. Mk and Mei had left to go back to their respective homes after spending the past two days at his house. They made a mess the first day, but after Y/n (gently, mind you) scolded them, they quickly cleaned up and kept the place relatively tidy afterward. They had watched movies at night and ate snacks all throughout the day, along with some take out boxes of Pigsys noodles. Mk would fall asleep against him after eating too much, which caused Mei to fall asleep right after. So Y/n would move them to lay comfortably on the floor, blankets covering them, making them snug and warm.
But now they were gone. And Y/n felt a little lonely again. He didn't know why. Maybe it was because he had gotten a little used to those kids bothering him every day. He could almost smack himself for being so sappy.
He sighed, looking at the city in the distance, nothing was going on, it was a peaceful day, most would say. The lights of the city were beautiful this time of day, around mid-afternoon, the coulds were doing well with covering the sky and the sun, which meant it would probably rain soon. Y/n took a deep breath, smelling the faint sent of rain. The smell made his shoulders relax out of their tense state since they've been like that all morning.
Rain was comforting to him.
His crutch was beside him on the grass, his left foot out, the other crossed as he set his hands in his lap. The wind had a gentle, cool breeze to it that made his slightly tall grass wave.
Unfortunately, his peace didn't last long. His brow twitched at the sound of wings flapping. He didn't bother to turn around since he already knew who it was.
"Shouldn't you be watching the kid?" Y/n spoke up after the bird settled next to him, folding its wings. The bird shifted.
"Ah, and here I thought I was being sneaky." Monkey King chuckled, crossing his legs, his hands resting on his knees. He lifted one to rub the back of his head.
"I probably should since I have to start training him again soon. But I decided to come check in on you." He said.
Monkey King had been doing this a lot lately. Before that stupid skull key the other day, Y/n had noticed a certain bird sitting outside his window every now and then, watching for a while before flying off. Y/n would ignore it, either catching his eyes and giving him a stern look, causing the king to fly off, but most of the time, he pretended he didn't notice.
His words made Y/n raise a brow, finally glancing over at him.
"Why?"
"I don't know."
"That's a dumb answer." Y/n scoffed.
"Yeah." Monkey King laughed.
"If you don't need anything else, you can leave. I prefer my alone time." Y/n said, closing his eyes. He didn't hear much of a response other than an intake of air.
After a few minutes, Y/n peaked an eye open, glancing at Monkey King, who was already staring at him.
"What?" Y/n asked, turning his head to him. Monkey King flushed a little red at the motion of getting caught staring. He looked at Y/ns foot, then back at his eyes.
"How's your ankle?" He asked. Y/n rolled his eyes. But decides to indulge.
"It's fine. It just hurts to walk on." He shrugged, staring at his bandaged foot. Monkey King hummed, nodding.
They sat like that for a while, silent, and Y/n looked up at the sky, seeing the clouds becoming darker, the smell of rain becoming stronger.
"It's going to rain." Monkey King said softly, voice calm. It was weird. Every story Mk told Y/n about Monkey King made it seem like he was impulsive. And impatient, but he seemed so calm.
Y/n shrugged to himself, looking away.
"Yeah."
"You don't want to go inside?" Monkey Kimg asked him. Y/n just shook his head.
"Rain calms me down." He says, fingers gently fidgeting with the grass. Monkey King seems even more confused, however.
"You could get a cold." He says, and Y/n sighs.
"I really don't care. And I don't want to get up. Leave me alone." Y/n huffs, crossing his arms. This guy was so annoying. So persistent. Y/n couldn't care less if he got sick. His body was frail. He always got sick. Especially in winter. But he doesn't care anymore.
He heard a soft groan.
"So stubborn, I'm hurt." Monkey King chuckled, and Y/n saw something glow in the corner of his eyes, but he ignored it until Monkey King flew off, a bird yet again. Y/n was glad he was gone. Finally, peace and quiet.
He looked at the trees in the distance, and them back at the city lights, still as bright as ever, even this far away. He felt a few raindrops fall on him, but he welcomed it, sitting quietly as it began to rain.
Until, well, Moneky King was back. Landing a few feet behind him, now back in his normal form. No longer a bird.
"Seriously–"
Y/n stopped talking. He blinked as he saw Monkey King kneel in front of him, gently wrapping a (color) scarf around his neck, one much like his own, but different (think of Macaques, but a bit shorter and any color you guys want) and it was really warm.
"There! So you stay warm. As for the rain.." Monkey King looked up, tapping his chin before he gently pulled out a piece of hair, blowing on it. It morphed into a blanket, and he placed it over Y/ns body, covering his head.
"There. Now you shouldn't get sick if you stay out in the rain."
"Ew. It's made of hair." Y/n said, frowning, but it was more of a pout. Monkey King laughed, sitting next to him.
It was silent again. But it was a peaceful silence as Y/n listened to the soft sound of rain pitter-pattering against the ground. The silence felt..warm somehow. Y/n raised a hand, gripping the scarf around his neck.
He sighed, rolling his eyes and looking away.
"Thank you." He muttered.
"No problem!"
Y/n had to admit, Mk was right about one thing, Monkey King was pretty nice. Even if Y/n had just started learning about him and had only hung out with him a handful of times while Mk was training and dragged Y/n to be there to sit in the corner and watch.
Y/n would protest, but would let Mk drag him along.
Y/n pulled the blanket tighter around his shoulders.
"Mk told me you could break your bones going too fast. Is that why your ankle is broken?" Monkey King spoke up after a while. Y/n nodded, well, as well as he could with the blanket covering his head, only his face peaking out.
"Yeah. My body is pretty weak."
"Weak?" Gosh, this guy was just like Mk with all the questions. Y/n shook his head, slightly amused.
"Weak. I was born into a family with a long line of strong powers and even stronger physical bodies. My mother and father would show me our village when I was younger, telling me I was going to grow up strong or whatever." Y/n shrugged, reaching a hand outside the blanket to catch a few raindrops.
"They were really wrong. The first time, they tried helping me use my speed one day. I was maybe four or five, so no one noticed I was weak until then. And I went pretty fast, but I broke my leg. I lost my breath to the point I hyperventilated and couldn't breathe."
"Thankfully, my mother was a healer. That was her power. She healed me and my parents and then forbid me from using my abilities. For being five years old, I was pretty devastated." Y/n remembers that day, his mother sat him down, his father beside him, and they held his tiny hands, telling him it was for his safety.
"I grew up knowing so many stories of my ancestors and their battles, the beauty of nature and the town they protected for over a millenia. So to learn, I wasn't going to be able to be like everyone else born into the family, kinda broke my spirit. And it got worse during the winter. The cold would make my lungs feel like they were collapsing, and so I wasn't allowed to go outside. I had to watch all the kids playing."
Monkey King listened to every word, not missing a single detail.
"Anyway. I've always been weak, so breaking an ankle isn't new to me." Y/n shrugs. Monkey King hums, leaning back on his hands. Y/n looked over at him.
"Look. I don't really know who you are or really any stories... but since your Mks 'mentor' now.." they meet eyes, and Y/n glances away.
"I haven't known him long. But he's a good kid. And I made a promise a long time ago to protect people I come to care about. So, since you're this 'immortal' or whatever, just make sure he doesn't die. Because I'm not that strong, and he's reckless. He looks up to you. So dont you let him get hurt if im not able to protect him." Y/n crosses his arms, ignoring the eyes staring at him.
He hears a soft laugh.
"Okay. I can do that." Monkey King chuckles, nodding his head before looking at the city lights a few miles away.
Y/n looked at him, studying him. He saw the way his tail swished behind him, his relaxed state, just content to let himself get drenched with rain. Y/n sighed, closing his eyes, putting his good leg against his chest, resting his head on it. The blanket and scarf did good to keep him warm. It made him sleepy listening to the rain.
He fell asleep moments later.
And when he woke up, it was done raining and it was dark outside. He was on his couch, blankets wrapped around him, and a pillow under his head. And, for some reason, that light (color) scarf hanging off the back of the couch. Y/n reached over and picked it up, remembering when Monkey King put on him, his smile and soft eyes when he did it. Y/n huffed, pressing his lips in a thin line as he felt his face get a little warm.
"So annoying." He muttered, setting it back down carefully and laying back down, falling back asleep.
_______________
"Y/n!"
Y/n groaned, reaching over for his crutch.
"Knock knock!" Mks cheery voice was heard. Y/n huffed, grabbing his crutch and slowly standing up, making his way over to his front door.
He swung it open, and there stood Mk, a bag with their order of noodles inside. Mk smiled at him.
"Good morning! Oh! I like the scarf!" Mk said, free hand pointing to the (color) scarf around Y/ns neck. Y/n frowned.
"Y'know, when you say the words 'knock knock', it doesn't actually count as knocking." Y/n deadpanned, moving aside to let Mk in. Mk let out a giggle.
"My bad! Anyway, I came over to give this to you and to also ask if you wanted to come with me to go train with Monkey King today!" Mk said, looking at him with hopeful eyes.
Y/n looked at him for a good second, staying silent. Mk gave him a pleading gaze, pursing his lip.
"Fine." Mk jumped up in joy.
"Yay!"
Y/n decided to wait and eat until they made it to Flower Fruit Mountain. When they got there, Y/n followed Mk through the waterfall and into the main area, where Monkey King was sitting on top of a cloud, legs crossed as he laid on his back, arms behind his head.
"Monkey King!" Mk yelled, waving hello as Y/n took the bag of food and walked over to one of the pillars, sitting and leaning up against it, beginning to eat his noodles.
At the sound of his name, Monkey King grinned, sitting up.
"Hey, bud!" He said, jumping off the cloud and landing in front of Mk. He pat his shoulder.
"Ready for training?" He asked. Mk nodded, pulling out his staff.
"I was born ready!"
Monkey King chuckled, shaking his head. He handed Mk a stone hammer.
"Actually, we're going to be doing something a little different today." He explains, pointing at the 'ancient mural' as he called it.
"I need you to hammer that down."
"What!?" Mk yelled.
Y/n raised a brow at Monkey King, who just smiled and shrugged.
A few hours later, around noon, Mk had been hammering away at that wall for hours at that point, Y/n noticed Monkey King lean over his cloud that he was perched up on, putting his chin in his palm as he looked at Y/n with a grin.
"What?" Y/n scoffed, crossing his arms. Monkey King laughed.
"That scarf. You kept it." He points out, motioning to the (color) scarf around Y/ns neck that drifted down his back like a cape. Y/n went a little red, jaw clenched.
"It's warm– shut up."
He grumbles, turning his head away. Monkey King snorts, pulling out his staff and leaning back against his cloud again.
He twirls it as he holds his arm up, eyes closed, still stupidly smiling. Y/n went back to mindlessly messing with a pebble on the ground, tossing it in his hand for a while until Mk spoke up, the sound of the hammer coming to a stop.
"Y'know, when I found out I was going to be trained by The Monkey King. Great Sage equal to heaven! I had no idea -" Mk paused, turning and chucking the hammer into one of the pillars, throwing his arms out.
"That I would be stuck hammering a wall twelve hours a day!" He said, frustrated.
"Why am I doing this again?"
Monkey King hummed, continuing to twirl the staff, looking over at Mk.
"Ah, so I can make a little breakfast nook. Get some light up in here!" He said, his tail gently swishing. Mk looked so over it. His face nearly made Y/n crack a smile. But he just observed.
"B-But I'm supposed to be Monkey Kid! Not–" Mk groaned. "Construction Boy!" He complained.
Y/n held down a smile at his complaints, closing his eyes and relaxing against the pillar.
"How am I supposed to do the hero stuff when I can't even learn the fighting stuff!?" Mk said, and Monkey King stopped twirling the staff, hopping off his cloud.
"Oh, you wanna learn the fighting stuff, huh?" He said, and Y/n cracked an eye open, curious.
"Like this?" He says, eyes glowing gold before he spins the staff, launching it towards the mural, causing Mk to let out an 'ah!' And duck before the wall was nearly smashed, a giant hole right in the middle.
Y/n blinked, 'Wow..'
Mk gawked at the large hole, gasping loudly before his eyes lit up.
"Yes! Exactly like that! I am ready for the awesome stuff!" He says, doing a silly pose that had Y/ns lips tilt upwards just a bit.
Monkey King laughs loudly, turning around and spawning the staff back in his hand.
"Ha! Look, bud." He said, turning around and the staff disappeared. "You'll get there. You just need practice." He says.
But Mk frowns, "But this isn't practice!"
Monkey King groans, turning back to him, crossing his arms.
"Look, bud. I'm not going to teach you anything you don't need to know, okay?" He says, smiling a little, trying to get Mk to understand. Mk just scoffs, however.
"Okay." Monkey King sighed, seeing how disappointed Mk looked and tried to get him to focus on something else.
"Now, you have to lean into the strike–"
Suddenly, they hear Mks phone begins on ring, Mk answers it, it's Mei, looking rather panicked.
"Mk! We really need your help!" She says over the phone, and Y/n is already halfway up when Mk had answered the phone. Over the phone, Mk could see a giant purple figure. One eye was crossed out, and the other stared ominously down at the phone camera.
Y/n, who had leaned over Mks shoulder to see, cringed.
Mk grinned at the idea of not having to do any boring stuff anymore. He snickered.
"A monster attacking the city?" He said, grinning at Monkey King innocently. "That's terrible!"
"I guess I have to go do boring hero stuff instead of," Mk motioned to the wall behind him, looking unamused.
"This."
Y/n saw Mk look at him, but Y/n shook his head.
"Actually, I'm going to stay behind for this one. I need to have a quick talk with your... teacher." He says, glancing over at Monkey King, who raises a brow, confused. Mk just shrugs.
"Okay! Have fun! Bye, Y/n!" He says before scurrying off.
"Bye, Kid." Y/n gave a little wave before watching him leave. "Be safe.." he mutters quietly.
Once he was gone, Y/n turned to Monkey King, who looked a little nervous for some reason. He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"I.. have a question." Monkey King blinks, not expecting that. He smiles.
"What's up? Wanna learn some stuff from me, too?" He grins at his own joke until Y/n gives him a deadpanned look, frowning. They stay silent for a while until Monkey King realizes.
"Oh! You do!"
Y/n shoves his arm at the sight of that stupid silly grin he gets. Rolling his eyes, he motions for them to sit on the ground. Monkey King sits in front of him, legs crossed, attentive as Y/n holds his hands up over the ground, barely hovering just about an inch over the floor. Monkey King doesn't say a word and just watches carefully, wondering what Y/n is about to show him.
Slowly, the ground begins to rumble, Y/ns eyes close, concentrating. Monkey Kings eyes widen, feeling the ground rumble under them, loose pebbles shaking. And slowly, the ground below Y/ns hand slowly rises, stretches, and Y/n holds up that chunk of the ground, the ground no longer shaking. The chunk is hovering just above Y/ns hands. It's quite large.
"Huh." Monkey King says in awe, smiling.
"Impressive!" He says, gently taking the chunk of rock from Y/n, who held it out for him.
"Could you always do that?" He asks, looking at the large chunk of rock and then the hole left from ripping it out.
"Not really. I mean, I didn't get to explore my powers until I was ten, so... but this is one of the abilities I have left alone since I have barely any control over it. Another thing my parents didn't let me be aware of.." he muttered that last part to himself, but Moneky King caught it, and his smile fell slightly.
"Hm.." Monkey King placed the rock down beside him.
"Try it again. Do it bigger this time." Monkey King smiles brightly.
"I can't without–" Y/n shakes his head.
"Then let's go outside!"
"Wait, what?" Y/n nearly screams when he's suddenly scooped up, and the next thing he knew, they were flying off on a cloud.
This was faster than when Mk dragged him along on the staff! Y/n panics, quick to wrap his arms tight around the Monkey Kings neck, burying his face in his shoulder as he holds on for dear life.
When they finally come to a stop, Monkey King is holding him with one hand on his back, the other under his knees, carrying him still. He chuckles at Y/ns frazzled state as he shakes in Monkey Kings arms.
"Y/n." Monkey King says softly, nudging him with his tail, grazing his hand that is still gripping the back of Monkey Kings scarf.
"Y-You are crazy!" Y/n yells, which makes Monkey King laugh harder. Which earns him a smack in the head.
"Don't laugh!" Y/n yells, still holding onto him.
"I'm used my my own speed, but even t-then I haven't used it in years, so you can't just–!" Y/n rambles on, face still buried in Monkey Kings shoulder.
"And you did it without warning!" Y/n keeps his eyes shut when Monkey King gently pulls him off, setting him on his feet, and Y/n can feel his crutch be moved to sit under his arm. Somehow, he's still got his face pressed against the guys shoulder.
"Sorry, I'll make sure to warn you next time." Monkey King chuckles, patting his back.
"You can let go. You're on the ground." He laughed.
Y/n slowly pulled his face away from his shoulder, hesitantly looking down to see that he was, in fact, on the ground. He blinked.
"Oh."
Monkey King hummed, smiling and nodding his head. Y/n let go of Monkey King, quickly glaring at him.
"I won't do it again!" Monkey King defended, holding his hands up. Y/n grumbled.
"So annoying." He said, looking around at where they were at. It was a mountain range, with tall trees and a few large mountains, but it was mostly a forest area, but with a large clearing. The grass was very green, and the sun was bright out.
"Why bring me here?" He asks, turning his head back at Monkey King, who smiles and sits down on the ground. He pats the spot in front of him.
"You said you can't control it, right? Well, let's figure this out!" He says cheerfully. Y/n rolls his eyes, holding down the quirk of his lips going up.
Planting himself down on the ground, he sits a few feet away from Monkey King, but close enough that if Monkey King leaned forward, he could grab him.
"Okay, now hold out your hands the same way you did before and try doing it again, but bigger this time." Monkey King instructs and Y/n huffs, closing his eyes and hovering his hands above the ground.
The ground begins to shake under them, like it did the first time. Y/ns brows furrow, he tries to focus on raising a large chunk, and rasing it out of the ground, but his hands start shaking, he feels his energy slowly dwindle each second that goes by, and large cracks start forming in the ground instead.
He tries to reel it in, to stop shaking and focus, but his mind starts to panic, his heart begins to beat rapidly, his hands shake more, and he feels like he might hyperventilate. He doesn't understand why he's panicking. He doesn't understand. More cracks begin to form circling the two and slowly spreading outward, one gets too close to a tree, which causes it to cut it completely from the root, causing the tree to fall with a loud thud. The cracks are deep, maybe a few feet deep.
Y/ns eyes are clenched shut, his hands shaking and breathing heavily, until he feels a pair of hands slowly cup the top of his, pushing them together.
"Breathe.." he hears, but Y/n grits his teeth.
"I am breathing!" He snaps, causing the cracks to break down more trees, causing them to come tumbling down.
"Slowly. Breathe in and out. Calm down.." The hands on his gently grip harder, only gripping the back for Y/ns hands, holding them still.
Y/n bites the inside of his cheek, feeling the metallic taste slowly fill his mouth. He twitches, feeling the wind around them begin to circle. He slowly shakes his head, eyes kept close.
"I can't–"
"Yeah, you can. Come on, keep breathing. You got it." Monkey King encourages, and Y/n can hear the smile on his face, making him scoff. Y/n tries, inhaling slowly and exhaling even slower.
Oddly, and very slowly, it begins to work. In and out. In.. and out.. he breathes. No longer heaving in a panic. He stops shaking, and he can feel the hands on his squeeze.
"There you go." Monkey King says, guiding Y/ns hands a bit closer together.
Y/n tries to focus on making the cracks stop, so he imagines the cracks that had formed to slowly retract and 'heal' themselves. And it takes a minute, but he can hear them forming back together, coming back the way they came, and soon, the ground goes back to normal, except for the poor trees.
He slowly cracks an eye open, letting his hands relax. Monkey King still holds them up, but now under his palm.
"That was incredible!" He laughs, giddy. Y/ns eyes widen a little.
"What? How was that cool!?" He gawks, shocked, his face a little red.
"You have so many cool powers! And you're strong! It's awesome!" Monkey King laughs, not letting go of Y/ns hands.
"I'll definitely teach you how to control it better. Let's try again!" Monkey King beams and Y/n blinks.
His eyes soften, but are still wide in shock. He feels warm. It's been a long time since someone said he was strong, that his powers weren't a burden. He sighed, shaking his head.
"Okay."
_______________
That's it for this chapter! Sorry, I really wanted some Wukong fluff since he's my second favorite character.
Don't worry though! Next chapter is all about Macaque! It'll be longer than this chapter so over 5k words. Hopefully.
I hope you guys liked this chapter!
