Chapter 2
Xander POV
I watched as Brooklyn stood under the frosted trees outside. She smiled and closed her eyes as the frost and snow fell in her hair and all around her. I couldn't help but notice how beautiful it looked in her hair. I quickly pushed the thought away and went down the hill to greet her.
I chatted with her, the usual, but this time, I wanted to bring a little mischief into the conversation. I laughed as I gave her a little nudge, "You just had to didn't you?" I said as I took my jacket off.
She smiled and watched as I set my coat down. "Well, she did it in my hands." She replied.
I gave her another nudge, she hit me back. She stared at me like I was crazy.
"You're actually taking your jacket off?" She asked me staring at my bare arms.
I stared at her, she just had a sweater on, but at least she wasn't bare armed. I laughed and went up the hill with my jacket in one hand, my other hand waving her over. She followed me and smiled.
"Yes, I'm definitely crazy, have you met me?" I laughed and threw my jacket to the side.
She laughed and inched towards my jacket, or perhaps the shade nearby, I couldn't tell which one. I lightly gave her a punch, she did the same back. We chatted and little by little she inched towards my jacket. She then started to just walk around, I knew something was up her sleeve.
She picked up my jacket and folded it, I guess she could've been a little OCD, but before I knew it, she took off running with it. She definitely wasn't OCD, she was a little thief. I ran after her, determined to get the jacket back.
"Hey! Get back here!" I yelled laughing. I ran by my friends who stared at me, wondering what in the world I could've been doing.
"You'll have to catch me!" I heard Brooklyn yell back.
We ran for a good 5 minutes, until I watched her slow down, she had stopped by the door. She handed me my jacket and smiled, but I could tell, the smile was fake. I kept a straight face, but deep inside I was worried. Her eyes told me that she was in pain, why? I didn't know.
She put a hand to her side, like it was normal, but I watched her clutch her side, as if there was a cramp. She smiled and laughed as I put my jacket on, watching her carefully. Her laugh and smiles told me that she was trying to hide something from me.
She turned her head to watch other people playing around, I saw her heave a heavy sigh. Clearly, something was bothering her, but I didn't know what, soon, I realized what. I realized she was watching everyone playing together, they were all friends, all with someone else, but I guess she felt as though she had no friends.
Her eyes shifted gaze to me and I sighed, I knew two things now: 1) she was hiding something from me, and I knew I wouldn't like it. and 2) She felt lonely, and I knew I could be there for her.

Narrator POV
Brooklyn walked away to her locker, taking her boots and jacket off, sighing as she took her bags and closed the locker. She set her things down in her next class, Math. Brooklyn walked away to the bathroom, watching as everyone went past her like they didn't know her, or as if she didn't exist.
She stared in the mirror, looking down where she had been clenching her side. It looked as though it had left a dent. She shrugged and washed her hands, splashing water onto her face, then put her hair up in a ponytail, to keep it out of her face.
Her body ached, and she could remember herself gasping for air while she ran, now, her heartbeat had calmed, and her breathing steadied, but she knew that the uneven breathing would soon return when her heart started racing again.
She headed out of the bathroom towards class, she knew she might as well deal with it. Her eyes wandered as she looked at everyone chatting with their friends. She shook her head, trying to get rid of the thought that had come across her mind. She sat in her desk and lay her head down, listening as the bell rang and the teacher started class.

Gabriella POV
I walked away from the school, avoiding everyone, just like everyone avoided me, the usual. My eyes darted back and forth, watching to make sure I wouldn't pass some people. I watched as a teacher waved at me and I waved back, putting on a smile.
I walked past Brooklyn, and I noticed a tear in her eye, I was curious so I turned and walked towards her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, are you okay.... Brooklyn right?" I asked as I watched her come to a stop.
"Yeah, I'm fine, you're Gabriella yeah?" She asked me.
"Correct," I waved her over, getting her to walk with me out the door.
"I'm walking home, so I should go..." She said her eyes wandering away.
"No, you don't, I'll give you a ride," I replied walking with her.
"No, thanks, I'm going to go, maybe see you tomorrow?" She said rushing off.
I wondered why she did that, but as I started to recall everything I could about her, I realized that she was in a hurry because she was in pain, I saw her expression, her hand clutching her side. I saw this often in gym, but now I realized that everytime I encountered her, she was always clutching her side.
I stared at her walk away turned. I collided with Xander, a kid in my class. He was staring in the same direction, but then back at me.
"Sorry," He mumbled.
"It's okay, you friends with her too?" I asked him, rubbing my hands.
"Yeah, noticed it too?" He asked me crossing his arms.
"Yeah, she's keeping secrets." I replied.
I stared at her exit the school grounds. I sighed wondering what she could be hiding, maybe she was dying? Or maybe she was trying to rid of a memory. I wouldn't know, all I knew, was this wasn't a good thing.
