Chapter 4

Llyr's POV

A burning sensation could be felt after my friend Myx, nipped me with his sword. I didn't even realise his sword was so close until it was to late.

"Llyr!" He said as he dropped his sword and swam over to check on my injury. He was the head of the royal guard and injuring the prince he was sworn to protect was not part of his job description.

I looked down and saw the small cut.

"Calm down, Myx, it's just a small cut," I said as I placed a hand over the cut, I didn't want my blood to attract any sharks nearby.

"A small cut! Let's get you to the infirmary," he said and I knew he wouldn't allow me to go anywhere else. This wasn't the first time I sustained an injury, but Myx was in protection mode.

While we made our way back to the palace Myx looked at me curiously.

"What?"

"Why were you distracted? You are always three steps ahead of me. You must have been really distracted for me to get a shot like that," he said.

I thought back to the dream I had the previous night about the girl with the amazing eyes, she was beautiful and I almost kissed her, but then Myx woke me up for training. I was thinking of her and that caused me to be momentarily distracted.

Myx gave me a look which said 'I better tell him now'.

I let out a low sigh as I realised I had no choice in the matter. I needed to  my best friend about the dream I had.

"Well, I had a dream last night," I told him while we swam to the palace infirmary.

"About what?" He asked.

"A girl," I said with a sigh.

"And who is this girl?" He asked.

"That's the thing, I don't know who she is," I said.

"If she's just a stranger than why is it bothering you so much? I've had countless of dreams of beautiful strange girls in my lifetime," Myx said as he scrunched his face in confusion.

"I know, but there was something different about her. She was different in a way. There was something about her that drew me closer and I almost kissed her," I said.

"Woah, that sounds strange," he said and I nodded in agreement and right at that moment we were already in front of the infirmary.

Doctor Shells was writing on a barnacle when we entered the room. The infirmary didn't have a door but a small arch opening. When we stepped inside his eyes shot up to us and he bowed his head.

"Prince Llyr, Sir Myx. To what do I owe the pleasure?" He asked with a kind smile. He was a middle aged man with a wife and two daughters that wanted to be just like their father.

I lifted my hand and showed him the injury. He gasped before he rushed me to one of the oyster beds and let me sit down before he wrapped my arm in seaweed.

"What happened?" He asked. What I thought was a small scratch was actually a large slash.

"Just training," I said with a shrug.

"I would advise you to be more careful, there are sharks in that terrain and the smallest sniff off blood can send them crashing in," he said. 

"I know, and I will take extra precautions in the future," I said as I gave Myx a pointed look.

"All done," the doctor said when he wrapped everything.

"Thank you, Doctor," I said as Myx and I bid him goodbye before making our way outside.

"Oh Llyr," her voice called and I had stop myself from rolling my eyes. Of course the siren princess had to pass the infirmary. I took a big breath before I plastered a fake smile on my face. I turned around to face her. 

"Olga, to what do I owe the pleasure?" I asked.

"I was just passing by and when I saw you I thought- oh my goodness what happened?" She asked and I followed her eyes to my seaweed wrapped arm.

"Just a small scratch," I said.

She caressed my arm, "oh my brave prince."

I tried not to cringe at her words.

"You were saying?" I asked as I gently removed her hand from my arm.

"I was wondering if you would go for a swim with me now?" She asked as she fluttered her eyes lashes a few time.

I was about to answer when Myx came to my rescue.

"I'm sorry princess, but the prince and I have some eel hunting to do, we've planning it for days now," Myx said respectively but I could see his eyes told a different story.

"He can't go eel hunting with his injured arm!" She shrieked and I flinched at the sound. Why did sirens have to make such awful noises.

"Thank you for the concern, my lady, but I'm perfectly fine, maybe a next time," I said as we bowed our heads before we turned around and swam away. 

Once we were far away from the palace my shoulders sagged in relief.

"That was close," I said.

"Won't she take a hint that you are not interested in her," Myx said.

"She believes she will be my queen in the near future," I said with a grimace.

"Why does she believe that?" Myx asked incredulously.

"My father might've hinted at it, he doesn't think a can find a more suitable queen than Olga," I explained.

"That's madness! She'll drive you crazy within the first day," he said and I couldn't help but agree. I could only hope I find another person who has queenly qualities.

"I know, do you really want to go eel hunting?" I asked.

"No, why?"

"I want to go clear my head a bit," I said.

"Then I will go flirt with some mermaids in the eel field, we'll meet here again at sunset," he said and I nodded. He knew where I was going and he knew that the place I had in mind had a beautiful view of the sunset, thus I can easily tell the time.

"Now go before Olga starts searching for you again," he said with a laugh and I quickly bid him goodbye before I used my silver tail to push through the water as fast as I could.

I swam past schools of fishes in an array of colours. The ocean floor was filled with bright colours of different plant life and I smiled at the beauty of the ocean.

I swam past Rory and his brother, Cody and sister, Nyla. They were my pet dolphins, they swam with me for a bit before they headed in their own directions.

The closer I got to my destination, the faster I swam to reach it. I knew I risked a lot in visiting the shore during the day time, but it was the only place I could go to forget about all my responsibilities and my life as a prince. A place I can be normal. It was also my mother and I's special place. She was just as curious about the humans as I was. And she found the Ocean palace extraodinary. She used to tell me about how the prince of the ocean palace saved her life once and how she almost lost me if it weren't for him. She was always biased about humans, but after what that land prince did for her she never judged the land creatures again.

She always told me that people aren't always what they seemed and I should never judge people on their appearances for appearances can be deceiving.

When I arrived at my destination I broke through the surface of the water and took in a lungfull of air after I coughed the remaining water in my lungs out. I swam to my rock I usually sat on. Before I climbed on my rock I peaked over the rock to see if there were any humans and to my surprise their were. Five of them to be exact. An older woman and man and two younger men. When my eyes landed on the girl my breath hitched in my throat as I recognised her as the girl of my dreams.

How could this be? Why did I dream about a land being? My head started to pound with all these unanswered questions going through my head. I rubbed my temple before I looked back to the group of people. 

She was even more breathtaking. A beautiful smile appeared on her face and it made my heart beat faster. I didn't understand why I was reacting the way I was. Why did this human girl make my heart beat faster? Why did I find her more breathtaking than all the mermaids and sirens I know?

I watched as she conversed with the people around her. Their similar features told me they were obviously a family. I felt a sense of relief knowing she had a loving family.  But why did I care whether she had a loving family? Why did it make me feel relieved?

I saw how one of the men suddenly picked her up in his arms and an involuntary growl escaped my lips. I quickly clamped a hand over my mouth. What in the world?! Why did I make such a terrible noise?

I couldn't but wonder what was going on with me.
