Three: Nika
My roommate was annoying as hEck.
Her name was Hazel Levesque or something like that, and she was irritating me so freaking much.
Apparently there could be anywhere from two to five people in a room, and mine had three, but so far I had only met one of them.
Piper had taken me to the Matron, and she had taken my health certificate and any medicine I had for safe keeping. If I needed it, I would just have to go and ask her which was slightly tedious that I couldn't just have it on me, but oh well.
"This is Hazel!" Piper introduced me to a short girl with long frizzy hair and golden eyes. "Hazel this is Nika, the last girl in your room."
When I walked in, the room wasn't too small, but it wasn't really that big either. Three beds lined the wall on the left and another three desks on the right. There was a door that led to a bathroom on the other side, and each bed had a small chest of drawers. And a trunk that lay at the foot of the bed and would be used as a closet.
The school required uniforms anyways so we wouldn't be wearing our own personal clothes except for on the weekend and for sleeping. In a way I liked that because I wouldn't have to worry about what to wear.
Hazel sighed plopping down on the bed nearest to the door, "the middle bed is Reyna, our other roommate's, so take the one next to the bathroom," Hazel pretty much ordered. What a rat, she sounded so entitled.
I wheeled my suitcase over to the side of my bed, and opened it on the floor, starting to unpack.
"Soo Nika, what kind of shit did you do for your folks to send you here?" Hazel asked me, sitting up on her sheets, crossed legged. "Nothing," I replied quietly, wishing I could room with Piper instead. She laughed, "that's pretty much impossible, you have to do something to get sent here!"
I looked up annoyed, "well what did you do? Annoy your parents to their grave?" Maybe I shouldn't have said that last part, family can be a touchy subject for many people, but thankfully she didn't take it to heart because she just laughed harder. "Nahhh, I kept running my mouth at school and got in a couple fights. My old principal was pretty strict and recommended Charford to my mom and she ended up sending me here." Hazel threw her hands up in the air then let them fall in her lap. "I've been going here for a couple years now, and I guess I consider this more of my home than anywhere else."
Her story almost sounded like mine. A parent that didn't want to deal with her. Not doing a lot of 'troubled' things to then be labeled as troubled.
I nodded my head, not too keen on continuing the conversation, but also realizing that I couldn't be rude because I literally had to live with her and if I got on her bad side it would just make life harder, which is what I didn't want.
"I wonder where Reyna is," Hazel grumbled, getting off her bed and walking to the door. "She should be here now."
Hazel left and I continued to unpack, neatly tucking away my clothes and taking my toiletries to the bathroom.
Back home, I had had a couple friends here and there, but none of them were genuine. I just didn't vibe with them, and they had other hobbies.. And friends, and boyfriends that they cared more about. I personally, had never had a boyfriend, and it was pretty sad considering I hadn't even had my first kiss yet. I don't know why that bothered me, I mean I wasn't terribly attractive in my opinion, but wasn't there someone meant for everyone? Why couldn't I just meet him?
I heard a couple laughs from outside door, and Hazel walked back in with another girl who I assumed was Reyna.
"Reyna this is our new roommate, Nika!" I gave her a tight smile, shaking her hand. "That's kind of a strange name don't you think?" Reyna asked, chucking a backpack on her bed, which was in between Hazel and mine's.
"Well I have pretty strange parents." I answered, crossing my arms. I actually liked my name, it wasn't basic, and just had a certain ring to it that amused me. Reyna smirked and turned around focusing her attention on Hazel. They got into a deep conversation about boring stuff that I didn't feel like paying attention too. I ignored them, sliding my now empty suitcase under my bed, and grabbing one of the many books I had lugged along with me. Lying down on the hard mattress I opened it up and lost myself in the middle of a murder mystery that I had read many many times before. I knew how it ended, yet it still shocked me every time I got to the end. I guess that's what a good book does to you.
Hazel and Reyna ended up leaving the room after a while, and I was left with just my thoughts and a dull hum that engulfed the dreary room.
I couldn't sit here, I needed to get out for a couple minutes. Placing my bookmark on the right page, I got up off my bed and made my way out the door.
