Relaxing Day

(A/N: I wrote this in the middle of the night. I couldn't sleep. Mom's asleep and I'm up, sneaking. That's normal for me. She doesn't even know that I'm up! ☺️ Anyway, the story!)

It was early morning on Berk. The air was chilly. Terrors where chirping softly in a distance. Everything was just calm and great.

Astrid woke up by the sound of Stormfly squawking at her. She opened her eyes and sat up, looking at her window. The blondes dragon peeked in.

"Morning, girl...slept well?" She asked. The Nadder squawked gladly. Astrid smiled before getting out of bed, taking on her clothes and heading outside to give Stormfly her breakfast.

As she was in the small stable beside her house, feeding her dragon, she begin to think about what had happened two months ago.

Two months.

It had been two months since the incident with the Red Death. Two months since they welcomed the dragons into their world and two months since Hiccup almost died.

Oh, how much she hated to think about it. He got through all those thing just for people to notice him. And what did he get? A prosthetic leg and a freaking title as a hero!

He could have gotten so much more. His first battle scar wasn't a cut or a broken bone...it was a lost limb. It was just to much for Astrid to handle in the beginning.

The same day as he woke up, she promised herself to be by his side every time. She just couldn't handle seeing him hurt again. It would break her heart over and over again.

She promised herself to always trust him and listen to him. Because he was her best friend. And her only real friend. Yeah, the others where her friends but Hiccup...

He always listened to her. He gave we advise on everything and he was always there for her.

As she begin to think those thoughts about him, she begin to smile. Astrid signed, a smile on her lips and leaned against Stormfly's leg.

The morning was still breaking as Astrid went trough the village, holding her axe. She was making her way towards the forge. It had been a couple of weeks ago that she lastly had sharpened her axe but because she used it so much, it had to get sharpened again.

When she walked into the forge, she was surprised to see Hiccup there, already working.

"Hiccup?" She asked. "Thor damn it!" He shrieked and turned around. "Are you trying to kill me?" He asked with a half-smile.

Astrid looked at him with sad eyes. "I would never do that..." She said softly and made her way towards him. Hiccup nervously looked at her axe.

"Are you still afraid of my axe?" She asked. "Heh...no, it's just...it feels like you wanna kill me with it...you almost did it last time..."

At that remark, Astrid looked down. She remembered what had happened in the Cove that day. She kicked him, dropped the axe on his stomach and threw him to the ground...

"Are you alright?" Hiccup suddenly asked. "Huh? Oh...um, no. I'm sorry, Hiccup. I didn't mean all that I did in the Cove that day. I'm sorry for dropping the axe on you and kicking you..."

Hiccup looked at her and smiled. "It's fine now...it really is...I've already forgiven you" He said. Astrid looked up from the ground and into his eyes.

Hiccup was still a little bit shorter than her but she thought that it was just adorable.

"So...why did you came here?" He asked, breaking the silence. "Oh...I need to sharpen my axe..." Astrid said and looked down at it.

Hiccup reached forward. Astrid handed it to him and he looked at it. "Poor thing...you really have been using it much..."

Astrid laughed and shrugged. "I guess? Think that you can sharpen it?" She asked. "Sure...I'll be back in a minute with a razor sharp battle axe..." Hiccup said before he left.

Astrid looked at him with a smile before sitting down on one of the chairs. She looked at him.

Astrid always admired how good he worked with metal, leather and wood. The look on his face when he concentrated was adorable. He had this sorta pout-lips with furrowed eyebrows.

But Astrid thought that everything was adorable about him. His smile. His freckles. Everything!

Hiccup finally finished her axe and wandered back to her with it in his hands. While he was walking towards her, she noticed that he was limping. Even so slightly. Astrid stood up.

Hiccup reached her and gave her the axe before sitting down on the chair next to hers. Astrid leaned her axe against the wall beside her chair and sat down next to Hiccup.

She signed. "So...how's you leg?" She asked and gazed over at him. "It's fine...I'm still getting used to not having a left leg but it's alright..."

She bit her lip. "Are...are you sure. Because I often see you limping..." She said and looked down at his leg. Hiccup signed. "You know...it's alright to show that something hurts. If you hide it, it might get worse. You don't have to be afraid of showing that it hurts. It's understandable. You don't always have to be a hero...you know?"

"I know..." Hiccup said, signing as he looked down and fiddled with the end of his fur vest. Astrid looked at him with a smile. "So...again, how's you leg?"

"It bothers me. It really does. My father says that I need to man up and ignore the pain because that's what Vikings do. But...it's not so easy. I don't think he understands how it feels. Sometimes, it feels like I still have my left leg but I haven't. It really bothers me because I need to be strong. The village expects me to be someone I'm not. I just want to be myself for one day..." Hiccup said, breathing out.

It felt great to spill it all out. Astrid knew that. She slowly started to rub his arm. "Then be yourself for one day...just take a rest from everything and have some time without the villagers expectations. I know how much of a fighter you are. You don't need to prove that your more. Let other people accept you for who you are. Not what you pretend to be..."

Hiccup looked up at that. "You really mean it?" He asked. "Yes...and know what? I've already accepted you for who you are...not what you pretend to be."

He looked into her eyes. "Thank you..." He said and slowly stood up. "And you know what? Today is going to be that day. I'm going to take a day break and just relax..."

"Now, that's the Hiccup I know" Astrid said with a smile and stood up, taking her axe. "Um...wanna hang out today?" Hiccup asked and turned a light shade of pink. "If you want...I mean...I was just about to train with my axe but...yeah."

"It's no problem, I'll just watch. You know, draw, talk to Toothless..."

And after saying his name, the black dragon bounced towards the two young's from behind a wall. Astrid laughed and patted him on the head. "So...should we go?" She asked.

"Sure! Wanna have a lift?" Hiccup asked and hopped on Toothless. "Alright..."

Astrid climbed up on Toothless and they flew out of the forge, towards Raven Point.

Astrid had one of her hands on Hiccup's waist as she held her axe in the other. They where only in the air for a few minutes before Hiccup landed where he had seen Astrid train. He looked around at the trees.

"Wow, you really have been training. I still wonder how those trees can stand."

When Astrid heard that, she started to laugh. "I don't know myself but they are standing so it's just to keep training..." She said and jumped off Toothless back.

Hiccup smiled as she begin to throw the axe into the trees. Hiccup climbed off Toothless and sat down by the black dragon's stomach.

Hiccup looked at Astrid as she trained and admired her for that.

Her strength. Her flexibility. Everything about her made him admire her. In Hiccup's eyes, Astrid was beautiful, independent, smart, agile, strong...shall I go in? Hiccup really didn't know how many times Astrid had thrown that axe into the trees but it was many times.

Suddenly, after pulling out the axe from one of the trees, Astrid started to walk over to him and sat down a few feet away from him.

She took deep breaths. "Wow, that was my new record. It feels like I'm about to lose my arms..." She said before knowing what she said. "I'm sorry...I didn't mean it like that...I just-"

"I get what you mean, Astrid. And...it's fine..." Hiccup said with a smile. "Come on...lets go to the Cove..."

Astrid nodded and stood up. They slowly - since Hiccup wanted to take it easy today - started to walk towards the Cove. Astrid always glazed at Hiccup only to see his face expressions when he was walking. And surprisingly, there wasn't so much. Only a few furrowed brows here and there.

When they reached the Cove. Astrid immediately placed down her axe and started to take off her boots. "What are you doing?" Hiccup asked, looking at her.

"I've been training, I always take a bath after I train..." She said and shrugged. After taking off her armor, she slowly started to take off her leggings.

"Oh gods..." Hiccup muttered and looked at her. Astrid looked up. "What?" She asked. "Nothing...it's just, it's a little weird just seeing you almost half naked in front of me!" Hiccup said and gestured towards her.

Astrid shook her head with a smile and took off her shirt before diving head first into the lake. Hiccup sat down on the edge of it, cross-legged.

Astrid surfaced and slowly swam around before she swam towards Hiccup. He sat at the deep side of the lake so Astrid just swam over to him.

"Hey..." She said and placed her hands on the edge of the lake. "Hey..." Hiccup said back with a smile and looked down in the water. Astrid then swam away a bit to relax and float.

Hiccup on the other hand pulled off his boot and unclasped his prosthetic, placing them beside him. He pulled up the ends of his leggings up to his knees and dipped his right leg into the water before slowly letting his stump sink into the water.

Astrid finally looked over at Hiccup and swam over to him. She looked down at his legs. Hiccup looked at her. Astrid placed one of her hands on his left knee, leaving it there.

Hiccup looked away and blushed when he felt Astrid trail her fingers lower until her fingers hit the stitching.

Hiccup hissed at that. "Can I...can I see it?" She asked and pulled back her hand. Hiccup looked at her and hesitated before slowly lifting up his stub. Astrid looked at it.

"It really have healed nicely...but you have to take it careful..." She said, looking up at him before looking down at it again.

"What do you mean, 'healed nicely'?" Hiccup asked. Astrid signed. "I was with you the whole time. I was by your bed those days that you where unconscious, praying for you to wake up..."

Hiccup looked down into her eyes as she looked into his. "Really?" He asked. "Really."

"Wow..."

Astrid smiled before placing her hand under Hiccup's stump again. But that wasn't the most unexpected. The most unexpected was that Astrid leaned up and - without warning - placed a gentle kiss on it.

Hiccup's eyes widened. Astrid smiled before she climbed out of the water and sat down beside him, in the grass.

Hiccup looked at her before letting down his stub in the water again. Astrid then took his hand. However, Hiccup didn't seemed to do anything about it.

He just sat there, looking out over the water. "Hiccup, what's the matter?" Astrid asked and looked at him.

Hiccup looked at her. "What if this all is a dream? What if...one day, I'll wake up and everything is back as it was before this. Dragon attacks, you and the others ignoring me. I'm being a looser again..."

Astrid felt bad now. She let go of his hand and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, bringing him close.

"Hiccup...you never where a looser. And you'll never be. We just didn't accept you. We all thought that you where some crazy Viking but we where wrong. We where so wrong. Your so much more than that. Your Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III. The one who brought Vikings and Dragons together. You where the one who was crazy enough to train a dragon. And that's what we all like about you. Your so much more than you look like. The villagers where wrong about you. The gang was wrong about you. And...I where wrong about you, Hiccup. We all like you really much. Your our hero. Whether you like it or no, you will always be our hero and you will always be my hero. And I'll promise you right now, this is not a dream..."

Hiccup looked at her with wide eyes. "But how can I know that it's not a dream?" He asked. "I'll show you..." Astrid whispered.

She leaned close to his face and placed her lips on his softly before parting and kissing him again. Hiccup's eyes tuned wide before they slowly closed.

He kissed her back with equal force. The kiss parted several times before Astrid's tongue brushed against his lips and after that, it made its way into his mouth.

"Mffpsh???"

Hiccup kissed back, using his tongue to. It was the first time that he'd ever kissed back and got to make-out with Astrid to.

Just like a dream come true for him. Astrid then pulled away. Her lips where swollen, so where Hiccup's. They opened their eyes, looking at each other.

"Can you get that this isn't a dream?" Astrid asked. Hiccup nodded before he said, "I could get used to this..."

Astrid grinned.

"I had a great day today, Astrid. Thank you..." Hiccup said with a smile as they walked thought the village in the middle of the night.

Everyone where obviously asleep so they where calm, walking around in the village. "I had fun to..." Astrid said and looked down at him. They stopped when they where at the academy.

The two had thought that it would be nice to take a midnight walk around the village so they took the long way home.

Because the academy was placed at the edge of the village, you could clearly have a good look out on the full moon that was tonight.

They two young's where seated on the sitting places on the edge of the academy.

"Hey Hiccup..." Astrid begin with a whisper. He turned his head towards her. "Yes?" He asked. Astrid looked at him. "I just wanted you to know that I care about you...really much."

Hiccup smiled. "I feel the same. I mean...I've really liked you a lot since...I don't know, since I was like, six...and now, we're here..." He said.

"Yeah...faith, isn't it?"

"Must be..."

They looked at each other before leaning in again. Hiccup had his head tilted to the right side while Astrid had her head tilted to the left side. Their lips touched for a peck but lingered there a few moments longer before pulling away.

"I can never get tired of that" Hiccup said. Astrid laughed. "Me neither..."

They smiled at each other. "Hiccup" Astrid said and placed a hand on his cheek. "Your so...cute" She said with a smile and brushed her thumb along the scar on his chin.

"And your so...beautiful" He said, smiling to. Astrid looked back at the full moon and wrapped her arm around his shoulder like earlier, laying her head on his shoulder. Hiccup wrapped his arm across her back and placed his hand on her waist.

He then laid his head on hers and signed.

Totally the best day ever.
