One Call Away
(A/N: What if Hiccup hadn't been shot down during Lightning Strikes? How long would it be before he would return? Listen to the song above! Long chapter. This chapter is from the song, One Call Away, - Charlie Puth.)
"No, Astrid. He can't stay here, we need to leave..." Hiccup said slowly, looking at the girl in front of him who he had a huge crush on.
"We?" Astrid asked, furrowing her brows. Hiccup looked at Toothless for a moment before looking back at the blonde.
"I'm going with him, Astrid. He wouldn't make it on his own out there. And I wouldn't either. We need to leave, before they decide to kill us both."
For the first time in forever, Astrid's eyes begun to sting and before she knew it, a tear slowly rolled down her cheek.
Hiccup's trained eyes directly saw that and he slowly neared her. Astrid pulled him into her arms the second he was close to her.
"Why can you just stay here? We can fix this, together. Why are you just going to leave me here? I though that we had something between us..." Astrid said softly, tightening her arms around her best friends body.
Hiccup signed, wrapping his arms around her waist. "I almost lost you a year ago after you defeated the Red Death. And now, I'm going to lose you again due to some stupid people in the village?"
"Astrid, please, as much as I want to stay, I can't. They threatened to send away Toothless. Maybe even kill him if we don't leave. I can't let that happen. He was my first friend. The friend that accepted me for who I was..." Hiccup said, not harshly, but not softly either.
Astrid gasped and pulled away, holding him by an arm length from his shoulder.
"But...but I though that you liked me. I was maybe wrong. I knew that I certainly had feelings for you but now...if you leave, then how will I know if you'll still be alive? Will I ever meet you again?" Astrid asked, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Hiccup placed his hands on Astrid's arms, pulling them off of him. He hugged her and placed his lips by her ear.
"I do like you, more than that actually. And, I will survive. I have Toothless with me, right? And I'll promise you that we'll meet again. Meet me in the Cove in four years, to the day."
"Four years?!" Astrid almost yelled. "Sshh, yes, four years. I'm sure that you can be without me for four years. Considering that you've been without me since we where five until last year," Hiccup told her softly.
Astrid pulled him closer by his vest, almost crushing him against her. "Be safe until then, Hiccup," She whispered into his ear, placing a small kiss under it.
Hiccup pulled away and looked at her. He placed one of his hands on her chin and leaned up, pressing his lips against her forehead.
"Goodbye, M'lady."
That was the last thing she heard from him before he hopped onto Toothless and flew away, into the stormy weather.
•••
Meet me in the Cove in four years, to the day.
That sentence have echoed in her mind for four years.
"Tomorrow is going to be a though day. He said that he would be there. I'd like to see if he actually keeps that," Astrid told to herself as she undressed for the night.
The blonde undid her braid that was hanging over her shoulders, letting her waist long hair fall out and drape down her back.
Astrid turned away from her mirror, looking at the green clothing that way laying on her night stand.
A few days after Hiccup had left, she had snuck into his house and stolen a shirt from him.
It reminded her of him because of its smell. She used to sleep in it when she was smaller but now that she had grown, it was to small for her.
Astrid grabbed the shirt by its shoulders and lifted it up, admiring at how small he would be if he would stand in front of her, being as small as he was when he had left.
"I'll hope I'll meet you tomorrow, Hiccup," Astrid said to the shirt in her hands before folding it nicely and putting it back where it had been for the past two years.
Then, Astrid climbed into the bed, blowing out the candle and laying down for a well deserved sleep.
The night flew away fast and before Astrid knew it, she had awoken, gotten dressed, braided her hair, eaten breakfast at the Great Hall and was on her way to the Cove.
Hiccup's old shirt had she taken with her if he wouldn't be there so she could cry into it.
And, as she had expected, he wasn't there when she reached the Cove. But, if she had to, she would wait there all day.
At least, she had Stormfly's company. And Hiccup's shirt.
Hours passed by without a soul coming to the Cove.
By this time around, the sun stood at its highest, shining it's warm light into Astrid.
The blonde was standing at the edge of the lake, holding the small green shirt in her hands.
She looked at it and remembered what that shirt could have been though.
It was maybe the shirt that he wore when she kissed him after he had awoken. Maybe, it was the shirt that he'd wore when they had their first flight together.
She didn't know. But she knew that she wanted him back. She wanted back his cute little smile. She wanted to be back in his arms, letting him hold her as long as he wanted.
She wanted him. And after having missed him for four years, she had realized that she-
"Astrid?" Came a dark, almost familiar voice. Astrid whipped around.
There, was a tall man standing, in leather armor and looked at her with awe. "Who are you?" The blonde asked.
"Don't you recognize me, M'lady?"
Astrid looked up and down his body before seeing a prosthetic leg replacing the man's left foot.
"Hiccup?" Astrid asked, almost out of breath by his appearance. "Can it really be you?" She asked in awe.
"That would be me," Hiccup said with a smile. Stormfly squawked happily. Astrid turned to her dragon and saw a familiar Night Fury playing with her.
"Toothless?"
The dragon looked up to who was calling his name and smiled before turning back to play with the female Deady Nadder.
Astrid turned back towards the man, who now stood a little closer to her than he had before. "It really is you!" Astrid yelled in joy and begin to run.
Hiccup stretched out his arms and caught her in a tight hug.
The shirt that Astrid had been holding was now laying on the ground behind her, completely forgotten.
Hiccup smiled, running a hand up and down Astrid's back. "Wow, your...your beautiful," He said. Astrid laughed but didn't pull away. She didn't want him to see that she was crying.
But, Hiccup either felt or noticed it because he said, "Don't cry, Astrid. I'm here now. And I won't ever leave again..."
Said woman pulled away, wiping her tears and looked Hiccup in the eyes.
"You've grown. I...you...how?" Astrid was at the loss of words. Hiccup laughed. "How? Just like you. You've grown. I've grown. Toothless have grown. Stormfly have grown...we all grow, M'lady."
Astrid laughed and fisted her hands into his hair. "But, I...I didn't expect you to grow this much..." Astrid told him, looking into the emerald eyes of the boy he once was.
"Your not even a boy anymore. Your a freaking man. I never saw that coming. Your...your tall, your handsome...and...your Hiccup!" Astrid said, wrapping her arms around his neck.
However, the man stopped her before she could hug him again. "Astrid..." Hiccup whispered softly. The blonde pulled back even so slightly to place her hands on the leather armor covering his chest.
"I've missed you..." He said affectionately before leaning down and capturing her lower lip between his.
Astrid's arms wrapped around his back, under his arms and pulled him closer. Hiccup smiled and moved one of his hands to the back of Astrid's head, pulling her closer.
Astrid made a small, 'mmm' sound and tilted her head to the right, darting her tongue over Hiccup's lips, wanting to enter his mouth.
The man accepted with a small, 'hmm' and kissed back.
The two kissed for a few more moments before pulling away. "Your actually back..." Astrid whispered. Her brain hadn't registered that he was back.
Hiccup smiled and pushed out the bangs from her eyes, revealing their sapphire color.
Astrid smiled, tugging him closer, if that even was possible. Their stomachs bumped together and soon, their chest followed.
Hiccup's thick pants protected him from the spikes of Astrid's skirt, making it able to hug her as hard as he wanted.
"You know, Astrid. Even though we haven't seen each other for four years, I never stopped liking you. My feelings only became stronger when I realized how much I had liked you before. I'm sure that you won't feel the same but know that I have always and will always love you."
Astrid stood there for a me'er moment before leaving her forehead against his. "Do you even know how long I've felt the same as you do right now? Since you first took me on that Romantic Flight on Toothless when we where fifteen."
Hiccup smiled and pulled away slightly. "I know that we're not even together as a couple but after what I've heard from you, I'm sure but still unsure if you would accept..." Hiccup said and stroke Astrid's cheeks with his large hands.
"Accept what?" The blonde asked, raising one of her brows.
Hiccup breathed in slowly and let go of Astrid, backing away. He reached into his pocket and got down on one knee in front of Astrid.
The woman's mouth formed into a shape of an 'O' and brought her hands up to it.
"I know that we haven't seen each other in four years and everything but I know that I want this. I want us to be something more than just friends. And even though we haven't been a couple before, I know that this is what I want. I want you. I want you to be more than a best friend to me. I want you to be the partner I can rely on. Someone to turn to if I mess up something. Someone who will be there for me if I have a hard time. Someone who will love for who I am. Someone who will make me happy and someone who can live the rest of their life with me. I know that this someone can be you. I want it to be you. Because, my feelings for you will always be for only you. There is no one in the world that I can love better than you, Astrid. So, with that...will you marry me? Will you let me make you a Haddock?" Hiccup asked.
Tears where streaming down Astrid's face by the time he had finished. The blonde pulled away her hands and wiped her face.
Hiccup knew that he had forgotten to open the box with the ring into it but he knew that it wasn't so important by the time he saw Astrid nod.
The blonde ran into his arms, almost knocking him over. "Even after I left you, you still want to get married to me?" Hiccup asked. Astrid nodded.
"I would never turn you down, babe," Astrid said with a smirk. "Babe? I like that..." Hiccup whispered with a smile and pressed his lips to Astrid's cheek.
"I love you, Astrid," Hiccup said with a smile and placed a hand into Astrid's stomach.
The blonde laughed and placed a hand into Hiccup's. The man turned his hand to grab the woman's and Astrid smiled.
Hiccup's hands where always the best. She had learned that during the hour that she'd been with him.
Hiccup slowly laid down. Astrid moved to his side, placing one of her legs over his. Hiccup had one of his arms around Astrid's back, holding her close. One of the woman's hands where placed on Hiccup's chest.
"I love you to, Hiccup..." Astrid whispered and looked up at him. "I can't believe that we're getting married..." The two said in unison.
Both looked at each other and bursted out laughing.
"We should tell your father and the village that your back...and that we're getting married."
"What about Mildew?" Hiccup asked.
Astrid started laughing. "That man died after getting hit by the lightning a few days after you felt. You don't have to worry. We soon realized that the reason why the many storms came was because there was to much metal in the village. Now, you should see Berk. It's amazing!" Astrid said, smiling happily.
"Your amazing!" Hiccup said with a smile and moved over her. He captured her lips with his and gave it all he had.
Astrid wanted to burst out in tears. She isn't know why though. Hiccup was...more than she ever had asked for. He as caring, he was dorky, humors, handsome, smart...shall I go on?
But most of all, he would be her husband.
Hiccup suddenly pulled away, smiling like a lunatic. "Why are you smiling so much, babe?" Astrid asked.
Hiccup laughed. "How could I ever deserve you?" He asked softly. "I don't know," Astrid begin before she flipped them over, straddling him by sitting down in his lap.
"But I know at least one thing," She said and reached for the small black box on the ground, handing it to Hiccup, "And that one thing is that we're getting married. Not only because you wanted it. But because we wanted it."
Hiccup slowly sat up, grabbing the small box, opened it and took out a beautiful golden ring.
Astrid stretched out her hand with a smile. The man of her dreams slipped the ring into her finger, smiling widely.
Astrid looked up at Hiccup and hugged him. "Thank you."
"For what?"
"For not lying to me. I though that you wouldn't show up today but here we are. I'm glad that you held what you said to me, four years ago," Astrid said and stood up. She walked back over to where she ha stood when Hiccup first said her name, bending down to pick up the shirt.
Astrid turned around to face her man and walked back, sitting down onto his lap again, going back to her original position.
Hiccup smiled. "Is that one of my old shirts?" He asked. Astrid nodded. "Yeah, I took it a few days after you left. I wanted something that reminded me of you. So...I took this," She said.
Hiccup laughed and looked at his shirt. "Now that I really see how small the shirt is beside you," Astrid begin. "You really have grown."
Hiccup laughed, grabbed the shirt and messily dropped it between them. He then raised his legs a little, making Astrid fall forward.
He captured her lips with his own, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her closer.
"I love you, M'lady."
"And I love you to, babe."
I'm only one call away. I'll be there there to save the day...
