Lullaby

Little Destin just couldn't stop crying as Astrid walked though the village, on her way home to put him asleep. The poor little baby hadn't gotten to sleep a wink today. First, he and his mother went to see the chief in the Great Hall before taking a round over to the Arena and visiting uncle Fishlegs and Meatlug.

The sun stood high in the sky. It was probably an hour passed noon. The blonde, young woman smiled and greeted everybody as she walked up the hill to her and Hiccup's house.

Valka, - Hiccup's mother - greeted her just before she would walk inside the house. "Good afternoon, Astrid. How's the little one doing?" She asked atop of Cloudjumper. "He's doing fine. He's just very tired. He haven't slept all day so in gonna put him to bed now and I guess that's the end of my day..."

The aged woman and the dragon landed softly. "If you want, I could take care of him. Go have some fun. Fly a little. I know you haven't flown on Stormfly for weeks," Valka said with a smile and stroke the baby's forehead with her thumb.

"Really? Thank you so much, Valka."

"It's the least I could do. I mean, all this responsibility for a young woman like you."

"Thank you," Astrid said again before looking down at the little baby quietly whining in her arms. "I better put him to bed. I'll see you later, Valka."

They separated and Astrid walked into the house, prying the baby from her chest and slowly beginning to sing, "The sky is dark and the hills are white as the Storm King speeds from the north tonight. And this is the song, the Storm Kind sings, as over the world his cloak he flings." The blonde continued singing softly, "Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep. He rustles his wings and gruffly sings, sleep, little one, sleep."

She laid down the still crying baby in the cradle and started to move it. Wagging the baby, she continued the lullaby, "On yonder mountain-side a vine, slings at the foot of a mother pine. The three bends over the trembling thing and only the vine can hear her sing. Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep. What shall you fear when I am here? Sleep, little one, sleep."

Astrid smiled, yawning when she saw Destin slowly fall asleep. The sang the last part too. "The King may sing in his bitter flight, the pine may croon to the vine tonight, but the snowflake at my breast, like the song I sing the best. Sleep, sleep, little one, sleep, weary thou art anext my heart, sleep, little one, sleep."

The blonde, young mother leaned back in the chief's chair and closed her eyes, the world around her becoming blurry before everything went black.

Not long after that, - about an hour later - Hiccup walked into the house, smiling. When he noticed his wife sleeping on the chair, her hand on the edge of the cradle, his smile faded and he signed.

She was "overworking" herself with the whole, "stay up all night to feed the baby, make sure it's not hungry when put to bed, stay with it incase anything would happen and then go and get rest" thing.

It was all a mess. Sure, he loved his wife and his child, but sometimes, the two things combined would get a little too much.

Hiccup pulled off his fur-cloak and quietly went over to the chair. He took Astrid's hand, softly prying it off the cradle before sliding his ads under her and lifting her up.

He walked towards the staircase and slowly walked upstairs, not to awake her.

After putting her in the bed, he started to take off any things that would probably make her uncomfortable such as boots, arm-wrappings, fur-hood, skirt and shoulder-pads.

Hiccup smiled and grabbed a blanket and pulled it over her. After doing that, he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers for a second. He then pulled away, looked at her and turned around, walking downstairs to where the baby was.

He knew where the extra storage of milk was. They kept a cabin full of small bottles with milk just in case Astrid couldn't feed the baby when it was needed. Just as he had grabbed two bottles of milk, he heard whining. Placing down the milk, he rushed over to the cradle and picked up Destin.

The baby slowly settled down and opened his green eyes. The boy had takes after his father. Auburn hair, green eyes, freckles. Totally his father. Not that Astrid minded. She knew that if Hiccup wouldn't be home at some point, she just had to look at her son and remember her love.

Destin looked up at his father and reached out a small hand, toying with his suit. Hiccup smiled and laid the baby against his chest. Destin stretched out his arm and grabbed the end of Hiccup's hair, tugging at it. Baby laughter was heard a moment later and Hiccuo closed his eyes, smiling.

With watery eyes, he sat down in his chair by the cradle, - the one Astrid had fallen asleep in - and inhaled deeply before exhaling.

How could he ever get so lucky? He got the most beautiful girl in Berk to love him enough to marry him and give him a beautiful child. He got back his mother who had been considered as dead for the last twenty years.

Hiccup smiled when the door opened and Toothless' head peeked in. "They bud," Hiccup said and stretched out his hand. Toothless smiled and slowly walked in, noticing the baby in his arm. When the Night Fury reached his rider, he sat down and barely laid his head down in Hiccup's lap.

Hiccup placed his hand on Toothless' head and stroke him. He looked up and saw the door still standing open slightly. "What the-" He stopped when he saw half Toothless' tail, - fins - hanging out of the house.

Hiccup looked back at his best friend. "Bud, I thought you couldn't grow more?" [1] Toothless just smiled and his tongue flipped out of his mouth.

Suddenly, the door opened and Valka, - somehow - got in. "Hi, son," The woman said and walked up to her son and the baby. "Where's Astrid?" She asked.

"She's upstairs. I came in earlier and she was asleep so I carried her upstairs and let her sleep. She's tired after staying up all night and walking around to visit me and Fishlegs," Hiccup said and stroke Destin's cheek, - who was now asleep again.

"Mom, did you notice something?"

"No? What?"

"Toothless have gotten bigger. I though Night Furies couldn't grow after becoming adults?" Hiccup asked and looked at Toothless.

"Now that you mention it, I do actually see it. I mean, I was at the forge, helping Gobber a little with the scrap metals and Toothless walked past to do something, I'm not sure what, and he stretched his wings. Maybe because of all the work, his muscles are growing and his body grows too?"

Hiccup stood up and looked down at Destin. "I can hold him for a while if you don't mind." Hiccup looks at his mother with a smile. "No, of course not, here," He said and handed over the sleeping baby to the brown haired woman.

While listening to the humans, Toothless had laid down, not interested, his tail covering his face. "Come on, bud, stand up for me," Hiccup said and walked outside. The Night Fury made an audible groin before following his rider.

The two walked to the backside of the house, the sun still shining on them. Hiccup called for SharpShot and the terror appeared on the rooftop. Hiccup pulled out a paper and a charcoal pencil from his suit, writing down something and sending away the terror to Fishlegs.

•••

"You called me?" Fishlegs asked as he landed by the house side. "Yes. You know how we discussed a few months ago how Night Furies couldn't grow more? What's the measurements?" Hiccup asked.

"Around twenty-six feet in length and forty-eight feet in wingspan, why?" Fishlegs asked and looked at him.

"I mean, look at this Fishlegs, doesn't he seem to have grown?"

"Hmm," Fishlegs hummed and walked up to Toothless. He the led the broadness of his head, neck, the length of his legs, wings and tail, the movements in his tail-fin before saying, "If I calculated right, he must've been eating some kind of mix of different fishes that made him grow. [2] He's around thirty-four foot in length and his wingspan lays around fifty-six feet. This should give him more speed and by looking at his tail, I can see that he will make faster turns."

•••

"Woohoo!" Hiccup yelled as they flew high over the sea. "Bud, I don't know what you've been eating and I don't know how this happened but I do know that this is amazing!" He yelled and stretched out his arms.

Laughter was heard over the wind rushing past his ears. "What's so funny?" Astrid asked and flew up next to them. "Hey, M'Lady," He said and lifted his face mask. "Again, what's so funny?"

"I noticed some changes with Toothless earlier when you were sleeping and I asked Fishlegs to examine him. He said Toothless had been eating some kind of mixed fish and he grew larger which added to his speed and agility. You know what the means?!"

"...no?"

"Follow me."

The blonde nodded and they flew away, they speed increasing rapidly. Hiccup flew up into the clouds and disappeared. A few moments later, he rushed past Astrid, over head, flying upside-down before shooting down towards the sea.

"Oh gods, will he ever stop?" Astrid laughed and looked at her husband, still shooting down towards the sea. Just before hitting it, they started flying again, leaning a wave after them.

I've had enough. Come on, girl, let's show them whose the one ruling in the skies!"

(A/N: 1. Yes, I know Night Furies can't grow more.

2. I just did some re-search and and found out that ancient people have been scribbling down about what ancient dragons eat and how they grow. Don't ask me how I found it. I don't even know myself.)
