Strongest Of Them All
His back hurts but he can't seem to care. His leg throbs in pain but he can't seem to care. He's tired from the lack of sleep but he can't seem to care. The grumbling sound coming from his stomach just reminds him that he hasn't eaten in a while but he has to keep going.
There's so much work to do.
It's been a week since the battle with Drago and his Bewilderbeast. They've come pretty far with rebuilding the houses but, there's still so much to do.
She finds him in the forge, sheets of papers laying all around him because of his planning. She has a plate of food she got from the Great Hall in her hand as she knockedwith the other.
Hiccup jumps and looks at the person who knocked.
Astrid.
His face brightens slightly when he sees her but, seconds later, her back to work. Astrid sighed and walked up to where he was sitting. Taking the food on her other hand, she placed her hand on top of his inventions and made him stop.
"What are you- Astrid, stop," He said, his voice sounding kind of mad. Astrid was taken aback. He has never used that tone on her.
"I just...I got you some food because you need energy. And you need to rest," She said slowly, a little hesitant. "Look, Astrid, I'm glad you're here and all but I need to do my work. But, if you're gonna try and make me eat and to make me sleep, I'm sorry but I can't. There's so much work to do and it's not gonna get done by itself. So, you may just leave and make me do this," Hiccup said, his voice harsh.
Astrid looked at him with wide eyes before she felt that sting in her eyes. She didn't want to cry but she couldn't help it. A tear rolled down her cheek and it landed on the on the floor.
Hiccup heard it and looked down at the small wet patch before his head snapped up. There she stood, the love of his life, crying because he said something.
Astrid sucked in her breath sharply. "You know what? I was just trying to help you and to be a good girlfriend but, you obviously don't need my help! I guess you don't need me anymore so, you get your wish. I'll see you," Astrid said, crying and placing the plate of food on the desk before running out.
"Astr-"
He was interrupted by her whistling for Stormfly and he shot up. He couldn't let her go. When he ran outside, he looked around but everything was clear. Right now, he hated Stormfly for being the second fastest dragon.
Calling Toothless, the dragon appeared my his side and grumbled, as if asking how everything was going and what was wrong. "We need to go after her. I screwed up and I might loose her if we don't," He said and jumped on his back.
Shooting into the sky, they stopped and looked around, looking for what way they could've gone. Toothless sniffled, turned south and began to fly that way. "She went this way?"
The Night Fury grumbled and set his eyes on the skies around them, looking around.
"I wonder if she...of course. Itchy Armpit," Hiccup said. The two flew that way rather fast. Maybe a little faster then when they first discovered the island.
•••
After what felt like an eternity, the two finally reached the small seastack island. Hushing Toothless, they landed as quietly as possible. Stormfly turned her head, looking at her best from from behind Astrid. Hiccup raised a finger to his mouth and hushed her. The Nasser laid back down as if nothing had happened, eager for what was about to happen.
Hiccup walked through the small forest on the island until he was close enough to her. Talking up behind her, he kneeled on the floor and wrapped his arms around her waist, pressing a sloppy kiss on her jaw.
Astrid jumped but melted right into his arms. How could she ever get mad at him? She just couldn't. He's the only person she loves the way she actually does.
He's her everything and she wants it to stay that way as long as they live. She wants a life with him, marriage, kids. She wants everything she can possibly have with him.
"I'm so sorry," Hiccup whispered into her neck before placing a kiss there again. "It's okay," The blonde whispered back and placed her hands on his arms. Turning her head, she looked at him. Her eyes set themselves on his lips before gazing into his eyes.
It seemed as though his emerald green eyes could look into her soul and read her mind because he leaned in and pressed his lips against hers.
Somehow untangling themselves from each other, Astrid turned around and placed a hand on his chest, pushing him down. Smiling, his back hit the ground and soon came Astrid, leaning over him.
Astrid smiled and pulled back, looking at him. His hair was all spread out around his head and more wind blown then ever.
"Dork," She suddenly said and leaned down again, her braid landing beside his head. Her nose were pressed against his arms she looked him in the eyes.
"I love you."
"I love yo-" She interrupted him by kissing him fully on the lips, tongue and everything. That only happened when she was in a really good mood or, well, the other thing.
They could barely see anything because it was dark but Stormfly had made a small fire a few feet away which helped.
"Should we just...stay here for the night?" Hiccup asked and pulled away from her, pushing himself up slowly so she could move. "I think...we should stay here. I have extra blankets, dry fish and water in Stormfly's saddlebag. Just in case something happens."
Hiccup nodded, stood up, went over to Stormfly who's curled up with Toothless and took the two blankets out of the bag.
He walked back to the blonde sitting on the ground and gave her one of the blankets, a thick bear fur blanket. He laid it on the ground with the fur side up. The leather would keep out the cold until they got warm.
Astrid looked at him. "We're gonna sleep together?" Hiccup smiled and looked at her, saying, "We've slept together a ton of times. This is just another place at another time. Nothing special."
"Okay..." The blonde said and stood up, unhooking her fur hood and taking it off, placing it on her side of the "bed". Hiccup looked at her. "What? Don't you want to be comfy for bed?"
•••
After a few minutes, they were finally settled for bed and crawled in. Somehow, it was kind of warm.
Like any other time, Hiccup was laying on his left side while Astrid was laying on her right. Hiccup smiled and hooked his arms around her, pulling her tightly against him. A fun memory came into his mind and he started chuckling. "What?"
"Remember that time a few years ago when we went dragon sledding and we got trapped under the ice?" He asked her, his hand fiddling with her hair. "Yeah, why?"
"Do you remember what Fishlegs said?"
Astrid thought for a few seconds. "Share body heat?" Hiccup's smile widened. "Yeah. Do you remember how awkward that got and how we moved away from each other?" Astrid laughed.
"Yeah. But, babe, that was before we realized what we felt for each other. Four years later, were here, acting like an old married couple. Which I don't mind. I love it."
"Do you...want to get married?"
Astrid looked up at her boyfriend before snuggling closer into his chest. "Yes, I want to get married," She said and wrapped her arm around his waist. "Do you want to...get married to me?" He asked hesitant.
Astrid pulled back and looked at him. "Who else would I want to marry? Tuffnut? Babe, we've liked each other in that way ever since the battle with the Red Death. So, basically, we've been together for five years. How could you not be the man I want to marry?"
"I just-"
"Hiccup, listen to me," Astrid started and pulled away, raising herself and leaning her weight onto her elbow. "I love you. We don't say it much but I love you. I love everything about you. You're the first guy I ever had a crush on. You're the man I want to marry and you're the only one I would want to spend the rest of my life with. I want everything with you, Hiccup. Marriage, a family...kids."
He looked at her, shock displaying on his face. He then smiled, placed a hand on her neck and pulled her down. He pressed his lips against hers and she smiled, kissing back.
"I love you, babe," She said, pulling away and pressing a kiss to the corner of his upper lip.
"I love you too, M'lady," He said and placed his hand on the back of her head. He pulled her against him, crushing his lips against hers.
He opened his mouth slightly and licked her bottom lip, asking for entrance. Astrid smiled, opened her mouth and kissed him back, with tongue.
They stayed there for quite a while before finally pulling away and looking at each other. "Marry me, will you?" Hiccup asked. A little shocked, she smiled, pecked his lips and then pulled back, answering him, "Of course I'll marry you, Hiccup."
Finally, they settled down and went to sleep. A few minutes after the fell asleep, Toothless and Stormfly laid down on each side of the dragon riders and put a wing over them, keeping them warm.
"Thank you, Toothless, Stormfly," Hiccup whispered and slowly raised his arm, stroking each dragons wing.
He then settled down, pressed his lips against Astrid's forehead and fell asleep. Toothless grumbled before they fell asleep too.
That was surely not a special night for them.
