Pendant
Hiccup sighed as he slowly entered the Haddock household, rubbing his eyes. It was an hour or so passed midday and he had to fetch a few papers for an assignment for a wedding that would take place in a few days.
He was happy for the couple. And the wedding just reminded him of his and Astrid's wedding that had happened less than two years prior.
He smiled tired. He remembered how nervous he was about asking her and about the whole plan failing on him.
He had planned a nice flight on Toothless, - just like the one the day she had found out about him years earlier - and then they would fly to Itchy Armpit and if everything went right, he'd ask her to marry him there and they'd spend the night beside a fire, watching the stars.
Of course, being who he was, nervousness had hit him right before asking her and he had went down on his wrong knee, not being able to get up. They had a good laugh but she agreed to marry him with a huge smile and watery eyes.
He couldn't have been happier.
They rarely fought but sometimes, they would bicker over the stupidest things but always laugh it off later.
They once argued about who would cook the dinner but at the end, Hiccup won and Astrid kind of confessed that she knew she was bad at cooking but still liked to do it. Hiccup let her be with him while he cooked and she had actually memorized a few recipes that she could cook herself.
Hiccup breathed out a laugh as he walked up the stairs to the loft where they had their room. Great memories had been made in this house. Especially of him and his father who had sadly passed two years ago while saving him from an idiot and lunatic of a man named Drago.
Buff man with no balls to fight.
Hiccup entered their room and walked over to the desk where he usually did his paperwork and drawings. From time to time, Astrid would sit down and draw something too.
He saw a paper sticking out from a drawer and opened it.
The corners of his tugged into a bright smile. It was a drawing of him, Astrid, Destin, Valka, Stormfly and Toothless. The whole family.
Just as he was about to put the paper back into the drawer, he saw something shiny and reached in. It laid at the far back of the drawer and he grabbed it.
A chain?
He pulled it out, revealing the pendant he had given to her four years ago as a betrothal gift.
The air left his lungs and he looked at it.
He thought it had disappeared or something. Last time he'd seen it, it had been with Astrid a month or so before they would've gotten married. She had already moved into his house by then.
Man, she was sly.
"I was wondering when you would find that," said a voice from behind him. He turned around and was met by no other than Astrid and Destin.
Two years since marriage had resulted in a boy, looking much like his father except for having more freckles than him.
At only two years old, he already had eight friends at the same age and he was already pinning after a girl. Typical Hiccup. They couldn't blame him though. She was beautiful. Bright blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair.
"I thought it was gone," Hiccup said and looked at the pendant. "Nah, it's been there since we've gotten married. I'd never loose it," Astrid said with a smile and slowly walked up to him, Destin walking beside her, stumbling every now and then.
Hiccup crouched down and picked him up, getting him sit on his forearm as he held his legs so he wouldn't fall. Astrid raised her hand and brushed her fingers through her son's hair before looking at her husband.
"Thank you for keeping it. It means a lot to me."
"Don't you think it means a lot to me too? You proposed to me and you promised me eternity with that pendant when we were eighteen," Astrid said and took it from his hand.
She put it down on the desk and walked up to her husband, leaning up to kiss him. "I love you," She whispered. "I love you too," Hiccup whispered and placed his hand on her waist, pulling her closer against him.
"And we love you too," They said in unison to the little boy in Hiccup's arm.
He didn't know what he did to deserve it but he got it and he would never let it go.
