Meeting

(A/N: What about a Long Distance Relationship meeting? Modern AU.)

Her phone rang and she looked at it. Hiccup Haddock was calling her.

He used to be her best friend but he moved away due to another school a few months ago. She was heartbroken because she didn't have her best friend near her but he vowed that he would call her when he had time, even if it was just for ten minutes.

She picked up her phone and sat down in her bed, answering it. "Hey," She said softly, looking around to find her earbuds. "Hey," Hiccup said back and looked at her, waiting for her to plug her earbuds in.

After a moment, he heard her say, "Done," and smiled, sighing. "So...what did you do today?" She asked and looked at him, getting more comfortable in her bed. "Oh, nothing, really. School was hell but I got through it and I came home, ate, did my homework and now it's around 8 PM and I'm talking to you," He said.

Astrid smiled. "Oh, well, that sounds nice, I guess," She said and looked down, a little hesitant. "Astrid? Are you okay?" He asked, looking at her with concerned eyes. "Yeah, I guess. I just..." She trailed off before looking at him with a smile. "Never mind."

Hiccup got up from his desk and walked around the house. "No, tell me," He said, a little forcefully. "You're my...best friend and you can tell me anything. Come on," He said and looked at her with a smile.

She sighed and looked up at him before looking away. "I just...I miss you," She said and looked at him again. Hiccup smiled at her. "I miss you too. I'd do anything to be back on Berk and be with you."

"You really mean that?" She asked. Hiccup nodded.

They talked for at least an hour.

"Well, I have to go soon," Hiccup said slowly, sitting down at his desk. "Yeah..." Astrid sighed out and leaned back against the headboard of her bed. There was a silence between them and then Hiccup said, "Well, I should go now," before going to hang up.

"Hiccup, wait," She suddenly said and looked at him. Hiccup's head snapped up and he looked at her. "Yes?" He asked, and waited for an answer. She didn't say anything for a few seconds before looking away. "I like you...more than just a friend," She said softly. "But, I guess, you can go if you don't feel the same. I know. I like my best friend, I'm so stupid-"

"I like you too, really much," He cut her off and looked at her with a smile. "Really?" Astrid asked and looked at him with a smile and happy eyes. "Yeah. I have ever since I met you," Hiccup confessed with a smile. Astrid laughed softly, feeling really happy.

"Okay, I really have to go now. I'll text you, I promise."

Then, they hung up and she went to bed with a big smile that night.

°°°

It's been five weeks since they confessed that they liked each other and they talked more than ever.

Astrid laughed at his stupid joke. "No, you can't say that. That was so stupid!" She laughed out and looked at him. Hiccup laughed along with her before slowly calming down and looking at her beautiful face lovingly.

"Astrid? Can I ask you something?" He asked, softly. Astrid's laughing slowly died down and she looked at him, nodding. "Yeah, sure," She said.

"Would you want to be my girlfriend?" He asked but when he saw her surprised face, his confidence faded and he started fumbling on his words. "I-I'm sorry. I d-didn't think. S-sorry," He said but when he looked a her, he saw a smile.

"Hiccup..." She started and looked at him. "Will it even work out? It's long distance. Does those even work out? Because, I really do want to be your girlfriend but what if it doesn't work out?" She asked and looked at him.

He smiled at her. "I'll make sure it'll hold. I'd do anything to be with you..." He said, trailing off.

Astrid smiled at him and nodded. "Then, I'd love to be your girlfriend, Hiccup."

They didn't know what they got themselves into but before they knew it, they had passes the three year mark of their long distance relationship. In the beginning, people in school mocked them that they wouldn't last and Astrid often cried on a call when she told Hiccup but he was always there and told her that they will.

He also said that they'd meet one day and that day would actually come in five days.

"I can't believe we're actually meeting after five years of being apart. I mean, we've been together for three years now but you moved away and-" Hiccup interrupted her. "M'lady, you're rambling," He said and looked at her.

She moved her laptop out of her lap and got out of the FaceTime app, looking at what her battery was. She reached for charger and plugged it in, moving the screen so it was perfectly positioned at her.

"Heh, sorry," She said and smiled, looking at him. "Only five days left and then I can see you," Hiccup said and heard his father in the background. "I got go, babe," He said and looked at her, not really wanting to go. "Okay, I'll text you," She said before they hung up.

She smiled at the screen of her laptop before putting on some music and then going to pictures. She saw an empty map named, "Hiccstrid," because classmates had started calling them that after realizing that their relationship only grew closer.

She looked at that empty map and thought that it would be full with pictures soon.

She stood in the waiting room at the airport, waiting for Hiccup to walk through the doors with his suitcase so she could finally meet him.

The doors suddenly opened and an old couple walked out with suitcases and handbags, smiling and walking up towards a middle age woman. More people started walking out after grabbing their bags and meeting friends and family.

She looked into the baggage claim and saw a tall, slim guy with shaggy auburn hair and a small black suitcase. Her heart began to race when he turned around and started walking towards the door. That was Hiccup.

She looked at her mom who was recording her for memories and put her hands over her mouth, looking back towards the doors and starting to jump eagerly. Ingrid, - Astrid's mom - laughed and moved the camera towards the door when Hiccup walked through.

Astrid looked at him. His eyes landed on her and his whole face lit up. His lips tugged into a huge smile and he walked towards the exit before letting go of his luggage. Astrid ran towards him and jumped. Hiccup buckled his knees a little and caught her when she jumped onto him, standing up straight to hold her in his arms.

Her legs wrapped around his waist and her arms around his neck, her face buried into his neck and she sobbed. "I'm here, Astrid," Hiccup whispered and tightened his grip around her, holding her closer than ever before. "I know," She sobbed into his shoulder and loosened her legs around his waist, letting him know that she wanted to get off of him. "I missed you so much."

Hiccup let her go and looked at her. "I know. I missed you too. You're beautiful, M'lady," He said softly and put a large hand on her cheek, running his thumb over her bottom lip. She smiled at him, her hands on his shoulders. One of her hands trailed up into his hair and she put her hand on the back of his head.

Hiccup leaned down for a split second and pressed a kiss to her lips before pulling away and reaching back. "I've been dreaming of being with you since I was a small child and we got into a Long Distance Relationship three years ago. Best three years of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So," Hiccup paused and backed off, going down on one knee and opening the box he had in his back pocket. "Astrid Hofferson, will you marry me?"

Ingrid almost dropped the camera from shock and happiness but continued recording.

Astrid looked down at her boyfriend. He had just arrived but he had already asked her to marry him. Did she want it? Hell yeah, she did.

"Yes, of course!" She yelled and people around them started cheering and clapping.

Hiccup stood up and smiled at her, taking the ring out of the box and slipping it onto her finger. He was worried it wouldn't fit because he hadn't seen or been with her since he moved away but it was a perfect fit.

Ingrid shut the camera off and walked up to the two, clearing her throat. Hiccup turned his head towards the woman and he bowed his head in shame that he didn't ask for her permission for a proposal first.

"It's okay, Hiccup. You have my full blessing. You're the only thing Astrid's ever been able to talk about," She laughed out and put a hand on his shoulder. Astrid smiled and looked at her fiancé, her eyes gleaming with happiness.

Hiccup wrapped an arm around her and pulled her in, pressing his lips against her head.

"I'm happy for you two. And I know your dad would be and is happy for you guys too," Ingrid said and smiled at them.

Astrid pulled away. "Wait, you...we're engaged. How's it going to work if you're going back in a few weeks?" Astrid asked and looked at Hiccup. He smiled at her. "Who said anything about going back?"

"Y-you're staying?"

"Yes."

She jumped at him, her arms wrapping around his neck in a tight hug. "Thank you, babe," She whispered into his shoulder before pulling back and smiling at him. "Thank you," She repeated again, holding his cheeks in her hands.

She pressed a small peck to his bottom lip before pulling away and both of them smiling at each other. "Well, shall we head home?" Ingrid asked.

"I think we shall, don't you think, M'lady?"

"I think we shall."

"Let's go home," Ingrid said with a soft voice.

Hiccup wrapped his arm around Astrid's shoulders and grabbed his suitcase with his other hand. They started walking towards the exit of the airport, going home.

(A/N: They're 20. Hiccup moved away when they were 15, best friends after that until they got together at 17 and met at 20. I don't know. I just like imagining that if they would've an LDR couple, Hiccup would've proposed when he met her. I'm so cringe worthy, oh my god.)
