Campfire (Day 3)
(A/N: Prompt: Campfire.)
"You have everything packed, M'lady?" Hiccup asked, going through his saddlebags. "I think so," The blonde responded, also checking.
Tent, check. Blankets, check. Food, check. Water, check. Extra clothes, check.
"Yeah. I have everything," Astrid said after checking the bags. "Yeah. I have everything too," Hiccup said, looking at her. "Well, then, maybe, we should head out."
Astrid nodded and looked at her fiancé after getting onto Stormfly. With a smile, they leapt into the air, taking off to Itchy Ampit where they would spend the rest of the day and night.
Ever since Hiccup had become Chief, things had been stressing him but, he somehow pushed through it without a breakdown.
Valka And Gobber has insisted on them taking a break since it was hard to be Chief And General. She knew. She used to be General when Stoick was Chief. But, that had been twenty years ago.
Many things had changed, surprisingly.
Valka has been very surprised after the victory against Drago and Hiccup had pulled a beautiful blonde girl against him, kissing her.
Before that, she thought she was a best friend or something but, she had her suspicions when she heard her scream, "Take em' down, babe!" Before he had swoshed passed her on Toothless, towards Drago to end the war.
However, she got shocked when Hiccup had introduced her to him and he told her that they were getting married.
Hiccup had been smiling widely when his mother had taken her hands in one of hers, her other hand resting on her cheek. "She's beautiful. She's gonna be a perfect wife and mother."
Astrid has blushed furiously when she heard the word, "Mother," but smiled. Hiccup had chuckled at her then.
"Astrid? Are you okay?" She heard Hiccup ask from beside her and she snapped out of her thoughts, looking at him with a smile. "Yeah. I just started thinking about stuff," She said, smiling at him before looking down at Stormfly and petting her neck.
"What did you think about?" She heard her fiancés curious voice and she looked at him. "Oh, just the time when you introduced me to your mother and she said that I would make a perfect wife and mother."
Hiccup looked ahead and realized they were nearing the small Seastack island. They landed and got off.
"What about it?" He asked her starting to undo the saddlebags. After taking it off, he gave Toothless a pat on the head and the dragons started playing. "Did she really mean that?" Astrid asked, walking over to the place where they had say the last time they were there, - before everything happened.
Setting down the bags, Hiccup went up to her and grabbed her arms. "She means it. And, I know you'll be more than perfect. You already are," Hiccup said softly.
Her heart skipped a beat, or maybe four, and she looked at him. "I...Hiccup," She didn't know what to say.
She only wrapped her arms around his waist, hugging him. Hiccup's arms landed around her arms and shoulder, squeezing her and pressing small kisses into her hair.
Time passed and they ended up wanting to put the tent up but then realized that it would probably be too hot for them to sleep inside it when if the nights was chilly so they just placed a thick fur on the ground and sat down on it, watching as the newly set up fireplace was crackling softly.
Toothless and Stormfly where completely spent after hours of playing tag with each other and had finally passed out in a position neither of the two riders could forgive out.
Toothless head was under the Nadder's chin and he was laying beside her, his tail somehow wrapped with hers but, they looked awkward and uncomfortable.
Although, Hiccup thought he heard Toothless snore.
The two sat on the fur, just relaxing. Astrid has her head leaned into Hiccup's shoulder and their hands were intertwined.
The blonde sighed somewhat happily and Hiccup looked at her, his thumb caressing the back of her hand. "Something wrong, M'lady?" He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"No. Not at all...I'm just thinking about something again."
"And what is that?" He asked, leaning in a little closer. Astrid turned to look at him and their noses brushed. "Are we really getting married?" She asked.
"Yes."
Astrid exhaled and smiled, pulling her hand away from his. "It's been a while since we've been this close before. I always see you running around the village like a maniac," She said with a small smile but Hiccup pulled back.
"I'm sorry. It's because of all the things that has to be done. I wish I wasn't Chief. Then I could spend more time with you," Hiccup said, his voice kind of raw as if he had just screamed for hours on end.
He cleared his throat.
"Hey, hey. Don't worry about it. It's perfect like like this too. Don't be upset. You're the Chief. You have a whole island to take care of. And, of course, I'm here too. Don't worry. Everything will be perfectly fine," She said softly. Hiccup was just about to protest when she spoke up again. "And, you're gonna be a great husband. You've already been a great boyfriend ever since we got together and I wouldn't want anyone else than you."
After saying that, she wrapped her right arm around his neck and pulled him down, pressing a small but lingering kiss to his lips.
When they pulled away, Hiccup was slightly out of it. He shook his head and looked at her.
Those dark, ocean blue eyes pierced right into his soul and he gave her a big smile, turning towards her slightly and pulling her in between his legs, hugging her from behind.
He placed his head on her shoulder and kissed her jawline and cheek.
"You do know that I love you, right?" He asked, mouth pressed against her neck. "Yes. Tell me something different," Astrid joked.
"I adore you."
"Oh, really?"
"No. I don't adore you. I envy your for everything you are."
Astrid laughed out loud. "Oh my god, you dork. Come here," She said before turning around and kissing him.
With no care in the world, they kissed and went to bed, the sound of the dragons breathing and the firewood crackling, lulling then to sleep.
