Brunch
(A/N: Sooo this huge dork haddockthethird randomly texted me the picture above and "requested" a fanfic like this.)
"It's so nice we could finally go out for brunch! Been forever since we last saw each other!" Heather explained happily with a bright smile on her face as she, Ruffnut and Astrid entered a small coffee shop right on the outskirts of town.
"Yeah! You being away with your brother for a while and Ruffnut now working full-time at the firework shop, things have been hectic and I guess I really needed to come out and meet you two," Astrid rambled out as she looked around for a place to sit in the quite crowded shop.
"There," Ruffnut cut in and nodded towards a small round table at the far end of the shop before making her way over swiftly and taking a seat.
"Oh? She started working full-time? When?" Heather asked as they followed Ruffnut and settled down into their seats. Before Astrid could reply, Ruffnut raised a hand and pointed her finger upwards.
"Two months ago. Was about time that lunatic boss of mine so called, "promoted" me," She explained and waved her fingers in the air to mimic a quotation mark.
"Lunatic?"
"That guy owns a firework shop and has no balls to set anything on fire," Astrid cut in, answering Heather's question.
Heather blinked at the blonde before settling her eyes onto the other one. Ruffnut shrugged and rolled her eyes.
"Wow. He really is a lunatic," She said, voice sounding amazed.
"Tell me about it," Ruffnut started before resting her arms into the table and leaning towards Heather. "My brother blew up a fake grenade behind work to show a customer and got three hours of detention like we're in high school."
Heather leaned back into her seat and shrugged before turning her gaze towards Astrid. "Anyway, what's up with you and Hiccup?" She asked and a smile tugged its way into Astrid's lips.
"Oh," She started and began to fiddle with her braid. "Things are going great, actually-"
Heather cut in before she could finish. "How great are we talking? Just great or great great?"
"...we're on the, trying-to-start-a-family kind of great," She replied and bowed her head, a blush spreading across her cheeks.
"Oh my gods!" Heather blurted out and an elderly couple beside them shot them a weird look or two. "Astrid, that's amazing! How has it gone so far?"
The blonde shrugged. "Kind of 50/50, really. It's hard to time it perfectly when I'm the most fertile but, practice makes perfect, I guess," She replied, sighing.
Ruffnut crossed her arms and leaned back into her chair. Babytalk was too much for her and she didn't get what the big over-excitement was. She turned her head to the bar to look at the menu and squinted, an auburn mop making her to a double take.
"Hey, I heard most people are successful when they simply stop trying and just go for it," Heather said and jabbed a finger into her arm, - a way of showing her odd support.
"Yeah, I guess you're right," Astrid sighed out, her mood slightly dropped. "Uh, Astrid?" Ruffnut started and nudged her elbow with hers.
"Hm?"
"Isn't that Hiccup?" She asked and pointed towards the guy at the bar. Astrid slapped her hand before turning around to look. "How many times have I told you that it's not nice to point- yeah, that's him."
"Well, what are you waiting for? Invite him over, girl," Heather pushed.
"Hi- wait," Astrid started and looked at him.
"What? What is it?" The two other girls asked, looking at each other and shrugging.
Astrid's stomach dropped slightly at the sight of him holding his phone while typing and wearing a big smile on his face. Even from a side-view, she could see he was laughing joyfully and felt both anger and jealousy build up in her chest.
What is he was talking to some other girl? The only girls he knew (that she knew about) was Heather, Ruffnut, his mother and her own mother-
Bing.
The blonde furrowed her eyebrows as she turned back in her seat, looking at the two curious girls before reaching her hand into her purse to grab her phone.
Messenger from Hiccup.
She opened it and saw that he had forwarded a video of a dog play-fighting with a water hose.
All anger and jealously left her body and she sighed happily, laughing at the video. "Okay? Care to explain?" The two chimed in and Astrid smile. "Nothing, I just had a weird feeling about it when he smiled at his phone," She explained.
"And?"
"He just forwarded this video to me," She said and turned her phone to show Heather and Ruffnut the video of the dog with the hose.
"He's a lovesick idiot, you know that?" Heather asked and rested her elbows on the table. "I know he is."
"Aren't you going to at least talk to him?" Ruffnut asked and leaned back into her chair, - once again.
"Yeah, I should. I'll be back in a moment," She said before standing up and skidding though the tables and people to tap her finger on her husband's shoulder.
Hiccup jumped visibly with a small, "Eek," before he turned around and laid his eyes on her. "Astrid! How'd you get here?" He asked and immediately placed his hand on her waist, leaning in to press a kiss to her cheek.
"I've been her for a good 15 minutes. You?" She asked and nodded towards the two girls at the far back of the shop. "Right, brunch today. I didn't forget it, I promise," He said, laughing awkwardly.
"I didn't expect you to. Wanna join us?" Astrid asked and nudged his hip with hers. "I can't stay for long. I'm already running late. They messed up my drink," Hiccup replied with a pout.
"Oh, you big baby-"
"Here's your drink, sir," A worker said and held out a cup. "This is the right one this time."
"I hope," Hiccup said under his breath as he took it with a nod. "Aw, cut that poor kid some slack, babe. It's probably his first day and I'm guessing you made him shit his pants," Astrid joked, snickering.
"Ha, ha, very funny, M'lady," He said before pressing another kiss to her cheek, - the other one this time.
"I guess I'll see you at home later then?" Astrid asked, looking up at him as he took a sip from his cup.
"Mmhmm, I finish an hour earlier today so don't be surprise if I come home earlier than usual," He said while handing his cup to his wife for her to try it.
"Okay," The blonde replied, voice echoing into the paper cup before she took a sip and then handing it back.
"Ah, your favorite again."
"Yes. This is the only place that can make cappuccino with cinnamon and cream properly," He said before adjusting his grip on the warm cup.
"Anyway, I have to go now. I'll see you soon, baby," He said before he leaned down and pressed his lips to hers for a moment.
"Yeah, I'll see you soon," Astrid replied after they broke away, and watched him walk towards the entrance.
Halfway there, he turned around and looked at her. "We really need to adopt a dog," He said and gave her puppydog eyes.
"We'll see, babe. We'll see."
"Yes!"
She shook her head with a huge smile on her face at his dorkynessas she watched him leave before joining her girls again for their brunch.
