07 Memory, Zero-One
—a s t r i d
"Hiccup, this is a very good meal and all, but care to tell me why Ruffnut is here?"
Detention. Highly not recommendable. It bores you out of your brain, it's prison in a school. When I saved for the sake of Ruffnut, the last thing I wanted to encounter is an awkward do-over.
"The dinner was my idea," she muttered, a whisper too low. "Hey, Astrid. Thanks for the save. You know — earlier. It was pretty trash of me to leave you hanging when I shouldn't have cowered out my responsibilities. You're a saint."
I shrugged, smiling in hindsight. "Thank you, too. I needed this dinner; or this kind of break, I suppose. I only really bury my nose into comic books and Japanese media whenever I'm at home. It's a nice change of pace to interact with people this late." I looked at Ruffnut, "Since we're at it, wanna tell me about yourself?"
Ruffnut deadpanned — a horrific all-time low plastered at her features, as if the next words she was going to say were taboo. "Well, nothing much to say, I have a brother. He's an idiot. He shares my name, kind of, only with a T. I live in Brownstone Street, downtown pretty much." She picks at her fingernails, then suddenly beams up, "Oh yeah! I have a two-headed toy plushie. I named the left head Barf and the other one Belch. Their names were inspired due to Tuffnut's constant belching when he was little, it gets pretty darn annoying."
I can't hold back my laugh, Ruffnut was entertaining. "Okay, then I'll tell you something about me, too. I'm from Berk, I moved to Greendale due to my father's promotion. Just like you nurturing Barf and Belch, I was pretty obsessed with toy weapons when I was little. It was sort of a coping mechanism to make myself feel stronger than how I really was."
"Man, you are a cool person." Ruffnut told me straight, her eyes devoid of blinking. "I could never begin as to why Trisha Millane hates the likes of you. Say, what about a second date? I'll treat the next time!"
Suddenly Hiccup Haddock coughed, alerting the both of us almost simultaneously. "So I guess I'm the ultimate third wheel of this conversation." He squeaked.
Finishing up a few moments later, we bid our good-byes to Ruffnut Thorston as Hiccup and I made our way to meet up for the group project. Looking up at him, I enjoyed seeing how serene his expression showed. Good dinner only grants you the best.
