Chapter 4: Eugene's lament
Ω Jack's POV Ω
"You have got to be kidding me!" Bunnymund complained once he saw us. "Not again..."
"Nice to you too, kangaroo." I mutter and crossed my arms. "Where's north?"
"In his study. He's sorta busy so I suggest you don't go in there." A new, nicer, voice chimed in. I looked over to see Toothiana grinning at the doorway. "I'll let you guys inside and you can explain everything to me."
Bunnymund grumbled and disappeared into the house.
Inside, Sandy was sat on a couch watching TV. He looked kind of tired at first but brightened up once he saw his half sister, Rapunzel.
"So... Getting straight to the point..." Hiccup clapped his hands together. "We kind of need a new list..."
"I figured as much..." Tooth tapped her chin and stared at a door that was labeled 'North's Study' in silver letters. "I am the one who put it together last time... However I haven't received any word from my helpers at all recently..."
"Helpers?" I piped in.
"Mhm. They're little hummingbirds that can carry messages for me. Very cute, actually." She giggled.
Rapunzel sat down beside Sandy on the couch and started to watch whatever was playing... It looked like anime, and I did not know Sandy was in to those kinds of shows.
"I'm going to go tell North that you're here." Tooth spoke, quickly buzzing into the study.
---
As I sat beside Rapunzel, waiting for North to make an appearance, I heard a small tap on a window. At first I thought nothing of it, but it was repetitive and kind of annoying.
Soon, Merida bolted up from her seat and marched to the window, throwing it open. But her tough persona broke apart as a small bird darted inside, making her shriek.
"It's a humming bird." Hiccup announced, trying desperately to catch it for Tooth. But the winged animal ignored him and perched right on top of my head.
"huh?" I looked up in confusion. "Maybe it has news?"
"Sssshhhh..." Toothiana hushed and rushed over to the bird who still sat on top of me. The hummingbird tweeted softly, and tooth simply smiled and nodded. "Thank you. That's a lot of help."
The humming bird cocked her head up proudly and flew back out the window.
"She said that Aphrodite knows where Hephaestus is... But not khione." Tooth crossed her arms, glancing between me and Hiccup. "But Aphrodite refuses to tell anyone until she is entertained somehow. I guess all you can do is go find the beauty queen and perform for her."
"But where do we find her?" Merida sighed, closing the window.
"She's not that far." A low voice chuckled. A smile made its way onto my face as I noticed North looking down at us joyfully. "She's in Central Park... I can get you guys over there fast."
"All we do is go back and forth with this quest..." I heard Hiccup groan as he tapped his prosthetic foot on the ground impatiently.
"How are you going to get us there?" I ask hesitantly.
"By using this new vehicle I invented. I got the idea because people kept saying I looked like Santa Claus." North exclaimed with his thick Russian accent. "Come on." He dragged me outside by my hood, everyone following behind us.
North made his way through the guardian's territory easily, but I really just wanted to look around. The place was so colorful, I couldn't help myself but inspect every single object. Gods... I think I was more interested in a pencil sharpener then I ever have been interested in anything else.
"Here it is!" North announced as he climbed on board. "Get on!"
"Uhhh..." Hiccup circled the sleigh, examining every piece of machinery. "Are you sure this is safe?"
"I'm not sure, I never used it." North laughed.
Hiccup paled and stepped away from the vehicle. "Uh... Yeah I'm going to take a rain check."
Toothiana stepped up beside me and gestured to the pendant on my neck. "Then use your powers to get there."
"What?" North and I said together, though he was saying it because he really wanted to test out his sleigh.
"I'm being serious." She complained and pulled the necklace off my neck. "ki̱demónas"
The pendant instantly turned into its full length as she spun it around her finger tips.
"H-Hey give it back!" I argued, trying to grab it but she held it out of my reach.
"Ah don't worry, only a child of Khione can use this. For me, I am only capable of whacking people on the head with it." She threatened.
I pouted and took a step back.
"Now..." She began, waving the staff around happily. "I used to be a hunter of Artemis, so I knew Thalia, as well as zoë... But she doesn't matter in this story."
"What does Thalia have to do with any of this?" I grumble.
"She had a brother named Jason that I met only once... And he was able to fly controlling the winds around him."
"Jason can fly?" I snorted. "That must be awesome to watch."
Tooth sighed and leaned against the staff. "Yes... In fact he looks like superman."
Rapunzel giggled from behind me, when I looked at her she immediately tried to keep a straight face.
"But anyway, I'm sure you can do the same thing with the winds." Tooth smirked and tossed the staff over to me. "Try it."
I gulped and stared down at the guardian staff in my hands. "I'm not sure if I—"
"Try it."
With a few encouraging nods from Merida and Rapunzel (hiccup didn't nod because he feared I would lose a leg doing this), I summoned some cool, snowy, wind to blow around me. At first, it was perfect, but I suddenly over shot it and I went flying towards the lake that wasn't the far away.
"If at first you don't succeed, try try again!!" Merida taunted.
Ω Eugene's POV Ω
I was moved out of the main room a long time ago... Now I'm in a cell. And it smelled like horrible sewage mixed with dead fish that was left of the beach on a hot day.
The only bright side was that I wasn't handcuffed anymore, so my raw wrists finally hand a break, though I knew that the scars will never go away.
And then there was the fact that these guys were actually afraid of Jack. And yes, also afraid of Elsa.
"I heard that boy, Tadashi, had a brother." Someone said as they walked down the hall.
I looked up at them as they disregarded me in my cell.
"He must be an idiot to stand in front of Jack like that. He was begging to be killed."
"Good riddance."
"Someone with that amount of disrespect for themselves. Doesn't deserve to live."
I clutched my right hand into a fist and used my other one to cover my mouth. I didn't want to yell, or curse, or sob...
What Tadashi did was noble, and here I am, wasting away in a cell, waiting to be saved.
"Beware of the beast that will decide your own fate..." I whispered to myself, the next part of the prophecy...
