3 | Problems Arise
"What do you mean 'not enough resources'?" You replied.
"Exactly that. With all these monsters in the kingdom and with your orders to provide for them and to get them settled in, most of our building materials, money, food, and space have been taken up. And with all the new houses on the land, farmers can't use it to make more crops."
"How do you propose we fix this?" You asked while looking out the window.
"Well," the treasurer pondered, "we could run the monsters out..."
"Absolutely not!" You exclaimed angrily as you did a sharp turn, "We will not force all those innocent monsters out just because we failed to be prepared!"
"It was just a suggestion, m'lady." He replied.
"Do we have any more land left over?"
"No," he shook his head, "The monster houses go all the way to the border, only a couple of miles are left separating the two."
"Can we, uh, ask other kingdoms for help?"
"We can try," he nodded.
"Please do."
And with those final words, you left and went to your room to throw yourself on your bed.
Amy, your personal maid, entered your room and gasped when she saw you.
"Your highness! You look stressed! I'll set up a nice bubble bath for you." She scurried off to your bathroom to prepare the relaxation session.
"MOM MOM MOM!" Chara burst in your room and threw herself on you, practically squeezing the breath out of you and scaring you senseless.
"Oh my goodness Chara, what!" You wheezed out from under her.
"Hi," she grinned while hugging you.
You laughed and ruffled her hair, "You're such a weirdo."
After a bit of hugging you, she noticed the soft blue jacket over your dress and immediately started to tug at it.
"What's this? Where did you get it? Did someone give it to you? Who did? Are they cute?" She started to question you rapidly.
"Yeah! She's right! Where did you get that jacket from, last time I checked, you didn't have that in your closet," Mary came in and sat on your bed after hearing all the ruckus Chara was causing.
You let go of Chara, crossed your arms, and raised an eyebrow, "Since when do you know what I have and don't?"
"Since I became your lady in waiting and best friend," she replied, "Now, stop avoiding the question."
"Well if you must know, it was a gift," you huffed.
"But from who!"
You started to blush and Chara and Mary immediately knew who it was and what it meant.
"Did Sans give you that jacket? Aww that sweetheart just wants to butter you up!" Mary gushed.
"I knew it! I knew it, I knew it! I totally ship you two! At this rate, I'll be getting a new dad soon!" Chara squealed happily.
"C-Chara!" You blushed.
"Honestly, I think she's right again! Sans sure seems to hang around with you a lot and he always seems extra happy! Have you seen the little stars in his eyes whenever he sees you? Adorable!" Mary agreed.
"Yay! Maybe I'll get a sister or a brother; maybe twins! Oh boy! The more children the better! But then biologically, they wouldn't be my siblings... I'LL BE AN AUNT!! YES! I'll be in charge and take good care of them, don't you worry big sis!" Chara rambled excitedly, "But would it be possible for a human and a monster to have babies?"
"Chara! Lord have mercy! You crazy child!" Your face flushed bright red in embarrassment while you scolded her.
"Hey! I'm just thinking aloud!" She huffed.
"Then don't."
"Sheesh you two, calm down. Now Chara, why don't you run along and go play with your friends. I think I just heard Amy say your sister's bath is ready. Go on now! Shoo!" Mary waved her hands in attempt to run the energetic child out of the room.
Chara giggled and ran away, leaving you alone with Mary.
"So, on to more serious business, not that I don't find this topic very interesting," she teased with a wink, "but what are you going to do about the supply shortage?"
"I don't know," you rubbed your temple, "I've already told him to see if any other kingdoms are willing to help out."
"What if they refuse? You know others aren't accepting of monsters like we are, they might not want to give anything if they find out it's for monsters."
"Then we just don't tell them it's for monsters. We can lie or avoid that question."
"If they find out about that, you might betray their trust and they won't want to help the next time. You don't know what might happen in the future."
"Your highness!" Amy called out, "Your bath is ready."
You sighed and got up, "I just don't know. We can talk about this later."

"They refused, your majesty."
"So they're not going to help us? Dang..." you trailed off.
"What are we going to do? No one wants to help and we can't help ourselves," asked the treasurer.
"I don't know... get creative! Do we have anything that is valuable to others? We can sell or trade it," You contributed.
"Not that we know about; no..."
"Then... oh I don't know! I'll think of something, later," you left with a frustrated sigh to the only place where you could relax.
Sprawled across the soft, silky grass, your eyes gazed at the clouds and tried to spot shapes in them. In the distance, you could hear the rustling of leaves and the crunching of something, you hoped it was the blue-scarfed skeleton.
"HEYA (y/n)! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?"
You smiled and your eyes glittered in delight, he was exactly what you needed at the moment.
"Oh, just cloud watching. Wanna join?"
"OF COURSE!"
You heard Sans place something on the floor as he lied beside you and put his hands behind his skull.
After a moment of peaceful silence, you spoke.
"See that cloud over there? It looks like cake to me. How about you?"
"HMM, IT LOOKS LIKE A CAN OF BACON SOUP TO ME," He pondered.
You grinned evilly and rubbed your hands in delight, "Hey Sans~! Can a match box?"
He was confused, "UH... YES?"
"No, but a tin can."
After a slight pause of thought, he sat up and frowned while you started to laugh uncontrollably.
"NO! MY BROTHER HAS STARTED TO RUB OFF ON YOU!" He cried out while you tried to suppress your giggles.
After you finished, you sat up and noticed the picnic basket Sans must have brought.
"DO YOU WANT TACOS?" He asked.
"Sure!" You said as you helped him lay out the red and white checkered blanket.
He pulled out two delicious-looking tacos and you both bit them happily.
"These are really good, where did you get them from?"
"I, UH..." Sans blushed while rubbing the back of his neck, "MADE THEM MYSELF."
"Well, you did a great job! I wish I could cook like that."
"I COULD TEACH YOU! PAPYRUS SAID I IMPROVED A LOT AND I THINK AN AMAZING HUMAN SUCH AS YOURSELF IS WORTHY OF KNOWING!"
You laughed and nodded.
"While I can't make tacos as good as yours, I can make pretty mean pastries."
"WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A PASTRY MEAN?" He asked innocently.
"Not literally. I just mean they're really good. Or at least that's what everyone in the castle says. Not sure if they say that just because I'm the Queen."
"OH."
You stood up and brushed your dress, putting away the blanket and left over tacos back in the basket. You took Sans' hand and lead him back into the castle.
"WHERE ARE WE GOING?" He blushed.
You grinned.
"To the cake we go!"

"Please! Have mercy!" You laughed as you hid behind a metal tray.
"NOT THIS TIME, YOUR HIGHNESS. I WON'T BE FOOLED AGAIN!" Sans did an adorable battle cry before attempting to pelt you with cake batter.
You ducked behind the large counter in the center of the kitchen and snuck up behind him. You were about to smack the substance on his skull when he whipped over with his hands raised. Being the evil genius you are, you got closer to him and brought your face near his. He faltered and his face erupted in a blue blush, so you grabbed a fistful of batter from a bowl and dumped it on him.
"Get dunked on!" You giggled.
"WHAT?! NO FAIR! YOU USED YOUR BEAUTIFUL QUEENLY CHARM!"
You blushed a bit and took the batter set aside for the cake and put it into the oven.
"Well, we should start making our own frosting; the last layer of cake is almost done," you said as you took out the ingredients.
"Here you go, mix these please," You gave him a frosting bowl and watched as he began to rapidly mix the substance.
"LIKE THIS?"
"No! Like this silly!" You laughed.
You put your hand over his hand and stood behind him. You moved your hand at the right pace and hummed a little song. You didn't realize you were practically embracing him, which caused Sans to blush while you remained blissfully unaware.
After you finished your little song, you realized your position and quickly stumbled away from him.
"W-well, the frosting is done, so that's that."
"W-WE SHOULD CLEAN."
"Yea, let's do that."
After cleaning the gigantic mess that was made, the oven started to beep, so you put on your oven mitts and pulled the now fluffy hot cake out while Sans colored the frosting in a sky blue similar to his clothes and leaving some white. The both of you decorated it to perfection and marveled at it.
"Let's invite everyone to the garden and share this amazing cake with them!"
He nodded and quickly ran to tell everyone where to meet. You chuckled at his energy and brought the medium sized cake to the chosen area while trying not to mess it up.
Everyone cheered and Chara brought out some plates and forks to eat on as Toriel rushed to help carry the cake. Asgore and Sans came in with a foldable table and placed it on the grass away from most of the plants. Papyrus just laid against a tree while smoking, doing absolutely nothing to help; his brother would scold him later.
You sat on a bench next to Mary and sighed happily while enjoying your slice of cake. Your gaze wandered off to Sans playing with the children and you started to get a dreamy look in your eyes. Mary noticed this and giggled.
"You're so head over heels in love with him!"
"Shush! You can't say that out loud!"
"At least you didn't deny it," she winked.
"S-stop teasing me!"
"Hee hee! I'll stop when--"
She was cut off as one of your servants came in.
"Your highness, there is someone requesting to speak with you."
"Ok, I'll be there."
You look towards Mary and tell her a quick, "I must go," before standing up and hurrying away.
Sans noticed your abrupt movements, even from a distance, and rushed over to your side
"(y/n)! WHERE ARE YOU GOING?"
"I'm going to talk to someone, don't worry about me. Just keep doing what you were doing."
He just stood there as you swiftly walked away.
You walked towards the throne room and settled yourself on your throne before letting in the stranger. It seemed your treasurer was waiting for you. You raised an eyebrow at him and your servants presented him.
"This is His Highness, King Richardson the Third."
Your delicate face scrunched up slightly from confusion.
"What?"
