Chapter 8

"Oh, Delilah, I love your outfit," Cassandra said as she cracked open a soda can. "It's so cute."

"Thanks," Delilah smiled. "I'm going to dinner with Dylan tonight."

"Oh, hey, we should all go," Spencer said from on top of Cassandra's bed, flipping through channels on the TV. "We could make it a group thing, you know?"

"Yeah, that'd be fun," Cassandra agreed.

"Guys," Delilah said slowly, "I was sort of hoping to get Dylan alone tonight...if you don't mind, that is," she added quickly.

"Well, it's been a long time since we've seen Dylan too. We just want to spend as much time with him as possible," Spencer reasoned.

"Please," Delilah sighed. "Dylan...he has a tendency to not show his feelings when he's in a group of people, but he'll be honest when you're one on one with him. I just want to talk openly and honestly with him, because he needs that, guys. He really needs that. He has no one to really talk about his grief with and I don't want him to bottle it up and just pretend he's fine."

Cassandra considered her friend's words for a moment. "Okay. You may go alone."

Spencer voiced his agreement and Delilah thanked them both before leaving. She quickly checked to make sure she had her wallet and phone before starting off to go to Dylan's house.

Delilah arrived after a ten minute walk and knocked on the large, Victorian style front door.

It was quickly opened by Leigha. "Hi, Delilah. It's good to see you again."

"It's good to see you too," Delilah smiled.

"I suppose you're here to see Dylan," Leigha smiled knowingly.

"You suppose correctly," Delilah chuckled.

"Leigha? Who's at the door?" As a harsh male voice from the living room.

"A friend of Dylan's, Darling. Would you care to come say hello?"

A man in his late thirties with black hair and cold, green eyes approached the door. "Hello," he said disinterestedly.

"Alastor, you remember Delilah Bennet, don't you? Her family was at our wedding," Leigha smiled.

"I really don't, sorry," Alastor shrugged.

"Well, it's good to see you again, just the same," Delilah nodded. "I don't remember you much either, if that's any consolation."

"I suppose," Alastor muttered.

"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go see Dylan now," Delilah nodded.

"Dylan is studying tonight. He won't be seeing friends," Alastor said coldly.

"I wasn't asking," Delilah glared, pushing past him and running up the stairs.

"Insolent child," Alastor sneered.

"Ignorant fool," Delilah shot back, not stopping for a moment. She climbed the second flight of stairs and knocked softly on Dylan's door.

"I said I'm fine, Mom. I just need a minute," Dylan said quietly.

Delilah opened the door. "It's me."

"Oh, hey there, Delilah," Dylan sniffled, quickly drying his cheeks. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize the time."

Delilah sat down next to him on the bed. "That's okay," she said softly, giving him a tight hug.

Dylan sighed, resting his chin on her shoulder. "I miss him," he said heartbrokenly.

"I know you do," Delilah nodded, rubbing his back comfortingly. "I'm here for you. Don't worry."

"Thanks, Lily," Dylan said quietly.

Delilah dried his cheeks gently with the pads of her thumbs. "Do you feel up to going out?"

Dylan nodded.

"Is there anything special you want to do or somewhere you want to go?" Delilah asked softly.

"Anywhere where there's food works for me," Dylan chuckled weakly.

"That's the spirit," Delilah smiled. "Are you ready to go or do you need a minute?"

"We can go now," Dylan nodded, standing up.

Delilah led him downstairs, her fingers intertwined with his.

"Be back by eight," Alastor said as they went to the front door.

Delilah's eyes shot daggers at him, silently wishing him harm.

"Take as long as you want," Leigha mouthed.

Delilah nodded and left with her friend.

"Woah," Dylan chuckled after they began to walk down the street. "What was with that death glare?"

"I just don't like your step father, that's all," Delilah shrugged. "He's rude for no reason. I hate people like that."

Dylan wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Me too...Thanks for flying out here to visit me."

"It's my pleasure," Delilah smiled. "Cassie's dad had to travel here on a business trip and she guilted him into letting us tag along."

"Smart thinking," Dylan laughed softly. "Where are we going to eat? I'm starving."

"I have a place in mind."
