Chapter 14
"Chloe, who's on the phone?" Dylan asked as he reentered his room, shutting the door behind him.
"Delilah Bennet," the blonde girl smiled.
"Oh, hey there, Delilah," Dylan mumbled. "What- um...how are...how have you...hi."
"Hi," Delilah sighed. "Listen, um, Chloe, is it?"
The stranger nodded. "Chloe Napoleon."
"Wonderful. Chloe, would you mind giving us a moment? I'd like to speak with Dylan privately," Delilah said with a friendly smile.
Chloe nodded. "Of course. Dylan, I'll just be downstairs," she smiled, handing him his phone.
"Thanks," Dylan nodded, shutting his bedroom door behind her.
"Who's the blonde chick? Your new girlfriend?" Delilah asked coldly.
"You mean my cousin Chloe?" Dylan frowned. "You don't recognize her? You've met before."
Delilah thought for a moment. "You mean that cousin of yours I met when we were seven?"
Dylan nodded. "That's her."
"Oh, gosh, I hardly recognize her. She's changed so much," Delilah laughed in disbelief.
"Yeah, she definitely has grown up. She's driving now, god help her. No one's safe anymore," Dylan sighed.
"No, I suppose not," Delilah chuckled softly.
There was a moment of awkward silence before Dylan slowly asked, "So...why did you call?"
"I, um...I wanted to apologize. It was rude of me to speak to you like that...I'm sorry we fought," Delilah said quietly.
"I am too," Dylan nodded. "I completely overreacted about the whole William situation. It's just...Lily, I'm afraid to lose you. I live literally a thousand miles away, and I can't be there to spend time with you. It'd be so easy for you to find someone else and I would have no idea."
"Dylan, I would never do that to you," Delilah sighed. "I may, on occasion, find another guy good looking, but that's a normal human reaction. It doesn't mean that I like him in that way or that I have a crush on him. It just means that I'm human."
"Yeah...I guess you're right," Dylan said quietly. "I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too," Delilah smiled softly. "And...about what you said before you hung up that call...do you really love me?"
"Of course I do," Dylan nodded. "Lily, you're the best thing that's happened to me. I don't know what I'd do without you in my life. Of course I love you."
"I love you too," Delilah replied, her smile growing wider. "Does this mean that we're back together?"
"Of course," Dylan grinned. "Gosh, I'm so happy that you're willing to forgive me."
"Same here," Delilah nodded. "So, how's your guitar? Has it gotten much use lately?"
"Yep," Dylan smiled. "I've even been able to get back into songwriting."
"Awesome!" Delilah grinned. "Written anything good?"
"Nah, not yet. It's all crap," Dylan chuckled. "But hopefully I'll get the inspiration for a good one soon."
"I'm sure you will. You're just knocking the dust off. You'll get it back again," Delilah nodded.

The next day.
"Morning, Lilah," Spencer smiled. "How was the wedding?"
"It all ran smoothly," Delilah smiled, setting her things aside and tying on her apron. "By the way, thanks for putting in a good word for me. I've always wanted to work at Starbucks."
"I know. You're in here at least twice a day," Spencer chuckled. "And you're welcome. Anything for a friend."
Delilah smiled and put on her headset. "Where do you want me?"
"You'll be taking care of the drive through customers," Spencer nodded, showing her to the window. "Here you are." He quickly showed her how to use the register and smiled when she remembered his instructions perfectly. "Wonderful. So, by the way, what's up with you and Dylan? Are you guys still fighting?"
"No, we're back together," Delilah nodded.
"Thank god," Spencer sighed in relief. "I thought you would never make up."
Delilah laughed. "What do you care?"
"Well, it was awkward for me since I'm close friends with both of you, you know?" Spencer asked as he went over to the register to take a customer's order.
"I know," Delilah nodded, looking at her phone as it buzzed.
"Hey," read a text from Dylan. "I've got news. Can you video chat?"
"I can't right now. I'm sorry, but I have to work," Delilah texted back.
"Work?"
"I'll explain later, I promise. I'll call you the second I finish with my shift. Sound good?"
"Alright. Love you."
"Love you too."
