Chapter 13
A couple weeks later.
"Okay, this is ridiculous," Cassandra sighed, pinning her friend's hair up. "It's been two and a half weeks now, Lilah. You have to talk to him."
"I don't have time to think about that now," Delilah replied, shaking her head. "I just have to worry about not tripping when I walk down the aisle. Hand me those earrings, the sapphires on the left."
Cassandra immediately complied. "How did you even get roped into this, anyway? Wasn't your mother supposed to be the one doing this?"
"Well, she was supposed to be the matron of honor, but then, being my slightly accident prone mother, she fell down the stairs and landed on her ankle," Delilah sighed.
"Right. But that doesn't answer why you're all of a sudden the maid of honor. Couldn't your mom's cousin have just chosen her best friend or something?" Cassandra frowned.
"My mother is Alexandra's best friend. And since my mother couldn't be the matron of honor, Alex thought that I would be the next best thing," Delilah explained as she put in her earrings. "There. How do I look?"
"You look so beautiful," Cassandra smiled. "Like a queen in a book."
"Okay, Gustave," Delilah chuckled. "Have you been watching Love Never Dies again?"
Cassandra nodded. "I sobbed. But we don't have time to talk about that now. You need to get out there."
"Yep," Delilah nodded, grabbing her bouquet. "There ceremony's about to start. Let's hope I won't trip."
"You'll be fine," Cassandra laughed.
"I hope so. And thanks again for coming with me," Delilah smiled.
"You're very welcome," Cassandra replied as she put away her friend's makeup products. "It was nice of Alex to let me come."
"Yeah. She's sweet like that," Delilah nodded. "Well, I have to join the others. See you later."
—————
"Hey," Cassandra smiled. "You looked gorgeous up there. I did a pretty good job, if I do say so myself."
"Thanks," Delilah laughed softly. "I'm ready to get out of this dress, though. It's not very comfortable."
"I hear ya," Cassandra nodded. "Hey, you know who I bet would love to see you in something like that?"
"Don't say it," Delilah moaned.
"Dylan," Cassandra replied, ignoring her friend's request. "That's his favorite color, isn't it?"
"Actually, this is royal blue. Dylan prefers more of a cobalt blue," Delilah nodded.
Cassandra smiled knowingly. "You miss him, don't you?"
"Maybe a little," Delilah admitted in a quiet mumble. "But he has to apologize first. You don't just tell someone you love them and then hang up the phone."
"Look, Lilah, I know that I've teased you and Dylan in the past about liking each other, but you two really have something special. You're not going to throw that away over a little fight, are you?" Cassandra frowned, putting a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Look, I'm not blind. I saw how happy he made you and I can see how much not talking to him in tearing you apart. You need to reach out to him."
"I can't," Delilah groaned, standing up and beginning to pace back and forth as she ran her fingers through her loosely curled, brown hair. "It's complicated, okay?"
"How is it complicated? All you have to do is go to him and say you're sorry. Just shoot him a quick text. It only takes five seconds," Cassandra shrugged. "It's a simple process. You just don't want to be the first to apologize."
Delilah sighed as she sat back down. "That's...completely true...but I'm just afraid. What if he pulled a Ross and found someone else right after we broke up?"
"Then you'll have to decide whether you want to forgive him, or if you want to be a Rachel and say you never really broke up," Cassandra nodded. "Do you believe that the two of you are broken up?"
Delilah hesitated before giving a quick nod, looking down at her shoes. "We are. That's what scares me. What if he found someone else?"
"You'll figure it out," Cassandra smiled. "Do you love him?"
Delilah gave another quick nod. "Very much. Oh my god. Did that just come out of my mouth?"
"Yep," Cassandra laughed. "Call him when you get home from the reception."
—————
That night.
Delilah flopped onto her bed and gave an exhausted sigh. Almost instinctually, she pulled out her phone to call Dylan before pausing right as her finger was about to press the "call" button. "Oh, right," she said quietly.
As she went to toss her phone aside, she heard Cassandra's voice in the back of her mind, telling her, "Call him."
Delilah let out another sigh and pressed the button, her heart pounding as she waited for him to answer the video call.
To Delilah's shock and disappointment, a blonde girl of about eighteen years old appeared on her screen. "Hello," she smiled. "Dylan's in the bathroom. Can I have him call you back?"
"Um," Delilah stammered.
