the funeral
Kyoya a hand fell on Sophie's shoulder. She had Daiki and Aiko in front of her, telling her about what they thought Tamaki and Mori were doing up there in heaven. Sophie's eyes were glossed over with tears, but she still smiled and laughed at all the right moments.
She turned, a scowl etching its way onto her face. "I know you were highly against this, but... thank you. We were best friends back in high-"
"Back in high school, before you started calling my mom a slut and a hypocrite. I know." Sophie stood, Aiko hiding behind her knees, Daiku looking up at her in fascination, gripping her hand.
"Don't cuss around my son, please."
"I hope you realize your son is the only reason your glasses aren't beneath my shoe." She retorted. He pushed aforementioned glasses up on the bridge of his nose, taking Daiku's other hand.
"I'm scheduling you for a therapist. You and Aiko both." Sophie sighed. She always hated therapy, especially when she had to accompany her dad. He always looked to broken, so vulnerable. She didn't want to see that same look in Aiko's startling gray eyes. Before Sophie could reply, she and Aiko where whisked away by Satoshi.
He embraced her and Aiko both, and she felt his warm tears on her shoulder.
"My brother... I didn't see him much." He finally said, pulling away. "When I did, it was usually me doing all the talking. He never said much. But... you two are all that's left of him now."
"I'm not his daughter." Sophie felt the need to point out.
"You practically were!" He draped a hand across his forehead dramatically. Aiko gave him one last hug around the waist before dragging Sophie to where Anne-Sophie sat. Emotionless. Still.
"Girls," she finally said, putting an arm around each of them. "I never expected to outlive my son."
"I know, grandma. We all miss him." Anne-Sophie smiled sadly at them.
"Take care of my granddaughter, okay, dear?" Anne-Sophie said towards Aiko. Aiko nodded frantically, in awe of the beauty of Anne-Sophie. She was well into her sixties now, but she still had the beauty and elegance that attracted Tamaki's father in the first place.
Anne-Sophie stood and left. Sophie watched the person she was named after leave, looking back at Aiko afterwards. Where does she go? She shook her head.
"Let's go home."
