hey dad
Sophie stared at the blank sheet of paper. She glanced at the clock. Then at Aiko, who's paper was equally as blank.
"You said you'd done this before." Aiko reminded her.
"I haven't written a letter since you were born. Plus, it's a lot easier when you've been doing it every other day since you've been five."
"Why don't we just take inspiration from one of yours?" Sophie hit her lip. Those were personal.
"O-okay." She consented, heading to her room so she could take out the large box of letters. She pulled out the first one, labeled in her fathers scrawled, loopy writing. August 24, 2016.
She opened it. It only took one line for her to tear up. Damned emotions. I blame dad.
"Hey mommy," it read. "You left last night." She sighed, holding the letter close to her chest.
She left the box on her bed and went back to the study, where Aiko sat doodling on her paper. "It looks like my first letter was just me addressing the situation." She said.
"Were you crying?" Aiko asked.
"No. You were." Aiko rolled her eyes, but leaned over her paper and wrote. The words finally flooded into Sophie's head, so she did the same.
"Hey dad, it's been exactly a year since you and Mori's plane crashed..."
