Recklessness

Unfortunately, for him, she had other ideas. He could barely keep up with her as she was using her vampire speed, that is until she stopped and realized that she had no idea where Kai went.

He thought that she would finally stop for a moment and think but oh how wrong he was. Instead she turned to him.

"You have heightened senses right?" She quizzed.

At first he didn't want to answer her, he had hoped that hitting a dead end would make her think, but then he remembered the dagger in her hands and that she was seething mad, then how if he didn't give her an answer, or didn't help her, that she would find another way and do it on her own, after all, it was to help Jeremy and if there's one thing that everyone who knew the Gilbert's, knew, it was that Elena would do anything for her brother. Even if she died trying.

So reluctantly, he answered her. "Yes... and I know what you're thinking." He said.

"Could you try to pick up Kai's scent?... Please?" She asked pleadingly.

"Alright. I'll do it." He agreed, then added, "On one condition."

She half frowned at him, "Jeremy's dying! There's no time for compromise!" She snapped.

"We take Kai out together... Meaning you don't just charge in there with no plan." He explained.

The frown on her face softened, then she asked, "Okay, so what's the plan?"

He said nothing at first, then he replied "You trust me?" To which she nodded.

He winked at her, "Then you have nothing to worry about." He said. Then got to work, picking up Kai's scent.

They had been tracking for what seemed like forever when Tyler stopped suddenly.

"What is it?" Elena asked, he sighed, knowing that what he had to say, she would not be happy with.

"The scent.... I uh.... I lost it." He muttered, half hoping she didn't hear him.

"You lost it? What do you mean you lost it?!" She said, going out of her mind.

"I mean, this is it. The trail ends here." He explained, then continued "Kai must have used witch magic to mask his scent." He finished, then backed away a little, just incase she decided to lash out... after all, this was for Jeremy and Elena takes no chances when it comes to him.

To his surprise, she did nothing. No yelling, no blowing a fuse. Instead she stopped for a moment.

"We're gonna fail. Jeremy's gonna die!" She whispered.

"Elena look... I'm sorry. He'd be so much easier to track if he wasn't a witch." He explained.

"I can't just let him die." She spoke, her voice low and husk.

"I know." He replied, unsure of what to say, knowing that nothing would comfort her.

Not knowing what to do, they both slumped down by a tree, trying to figure out their next move, the occasional glance being thrown back and forth at each other.

"What if... Rather than tracking him... We set a trap for him?" Tyler suggested, catching Elena's attention.

It was the only solution he could come up with to corner that 'pain in the ass' witch. She opened her mouth to speak but quickly closed it again, losing her words. A slight frown spread across her face, before disappearing.

"That might just work." She replied. Thinking to herself, ways to lure him in.

He was so childlike that he didn't care for anything much other than power. But there had to be a weak spot... Right? Doesn't everyone have a weak spot? A person... Object.... Place... Family.... But Kai cared for none of those things.

"Just one thing... How do we lure in someone who's so far gone, so deluded and physcotic that they don't care about anything and the one thing he does care about, which is magic, is out of bounds. We literally have no leverage and no bait." She commented, still in deep thought.

She knew they had to find something.... otherwise Jeremy would die... And she felt if that happened, she would literally lose her mind. As crazy as it sounds, he was her best friend,  and the only thing keeping her together since her transition into a vampire. Rising from the ground, she squeezed the dagger until her grip was so tight that the handle cut into her, drawing blood.

"What are you doing?" Tyler asked surprised.

"Kai may be obsessed with magic but he's still half vampire, still copes with bloodlust.... It shouldn't be too hard for a physco to give in to it." She explained.

He leapt up from where he was sat, "Elena! NO!" He yelled.

"He can't kill me from taking blood. I'm a vampire, at least this way we can kill him and his spell will break." She said, digging the dagger in deeper.

Now Tyler was extremely worried.
