Hey Brother

Red Hood slowly approached the figure standing at the edge of the roof. "Hey." The figure didn't answer. "I brought chocolate." Red Hood said holding up a bag full of candy. "And I didn't steal it, so that's a plus." he tried with a small smile. He set the bag on the ground and removed his helmet, leaving the mask on underneath. The figure didn't move. "Even if you won't talk, at least sit with me. Please?" The figure slowly turned showing a blank face, eyes concealed behind a mask.

"We both know you can talk enough for both of us."

Red Hood chuckled but Nightwing just turned back towards the city. "Dick please, step away from the edge."

"What do you think I'm going to do Little Wing? Jump?"

Red Hood sighed. "Do it for my sanity, or what little remains of it."

The masked figure sighed before turning and approaching Red Hood. They both sat down and Jason brought out two chocolate bars giving one to Nightwing before opening one for himself.

Nightwing took it, opening it mechanically, but he didn't take a bite. "Does Bruce know you got chocolate?"

"Do you think he would let me? After the last time we had a sugar rush?"

Nightwing chuckled halfheartedly, the manor had been a mess. Pranks gone wrong, and bat kids swinging from the chandeliers and sliding down the banisters. "I suppose not."

"So you better eat it before he figures out I bought some and confiscates it."

"So you bought it?"

"Yeah, with Bruce's money."

Nightwing shook his head, a small smile on his face.

They sat quietly for some time, looking out at the city and eating chocolate.

Nightwing broke the silence. "I just don't get it. Why does everything always go wrong? Why do people have to keep....." Nightwing let the sentence hang.

Red Hood sighed. "I wish I knew Dick, I wish I knew."

"It isn't fair."

"It never is."

Nightwing's fingers dug into his hair, pulling at it. "It's my fault. It's all my fault."

"Hey! Stop that." Red Hood said grabbing Nightwing's hands. "Look at me." Nightwing kept his head down. Red Hood grunted reaching out with one hand and grabbing his brothers chin. Turning him to face him. "Look at me." he said gently. He slowly reached up and removed his mask and then Nightwing's. His eyes were swollen and red with deep bags underneath. "It's not your fault. None of it is your fault."

"If I would've said something my parents wouldn't have died! And if Batman hadn't been with me you wouldn't have gone looking for the Joker! And Wally," Dick froze, "It's all my fault. I deserve to die." He finished quietly.

"None of it was your fault! You didn't know what was going to happen and you can't blame yourself for my stupid decisions. And Wally was definitely not your fault. We all knew what could happen when going into the hero business."

"But..."

"No. It's not your fault. And I won't let you beat yourself up about things that already happened. It's in the past and as cheesy as it sounds you will rise again. Just like you always do. And I know you're still going to have problems and times when it's hard and the memories won't leave you and the doubts and insecurities and what if's will plague your mind, but you can get through this. And you have people that will help you. I'm here for you and so are Bruce and Tim and even Demon Spawn."

Dick was crying and Jason held him. He would be there for his brother no matter what happened. "It's going to be alright. Maybe not soon, but it will be alright. And then we can go back to arguing and trying to kill each other."

Dick chuckled, sniffling and wiping his eyes as he leaned against Jason. "We wouldn't want anyone to think we actually liked each other, now would we?"

"Nah, the batbros got a reputation to keep." They sat silently for a while. Just sitting together and looking out over the smog ridden city.

"Thank you." Dick said.

"No problem, little brother."
