"I can't think of a life without you..."
He had always been curious. His father told him to stop exploring for he would inherit the "crown". Alfred's father was the chief of the tribe. He was the strongest and the smartest and of course he expected the same of his son. Everyone trusted the chief to protect and help them, and they also trusted Alfred. The young boy of about sixteen grinned as he ran quickly through the forest. The autumn leaves crunched beneath his feet and he felt the crisp breeze in his dirty blonde hair.
It was here where he felt truly free. Where his father couldn't tell him what to do, and where his responsibilities temporarily disappeared. It was also where he first saw the low clouds. He had never seen them before. With an excited expression Alfred picked up his pace to follow the moving clouds. They were much faster and squarer than the clouds he was acquainted with.
He ran up the hill and stopped at the cliff face where the trees cleared so he could get a better view. Alfred's large cerulean eyes widened as he gazed curiously at the mass of brown and white. They weren't clouds for they were attached to some kind of ship made out of wood. It was way more intricate than any birch canoe he had created. Immediately he was interested and longed to find out more.
Alfred pivoted on his bare heel and started sprinting after the strange ship. All he could think about were the adventures that would await him when he saw it up close. He just never thought people would come off it. When he reached the shore, he waited quietly in the brush, observing the people who got off the ship.
"What did I say about the supplies Jack?! You're such an idiot!" The captain bellowed at a small boy who looked about the same age as Alfred. The Native American's eyes widened further as he saw the bright (e/c) color of his eyes. Despite the obvious insult thrown his way, the boy's large round eyes stayed unfazed. He didn't seem to care.
Instead he quietly mumbled his apologies. "I'm very sorry sir. I'll set them to the right instead of the left..."
The captain narrowed his dark brown eyes. "Next time there will be serious consequences." He threatened then stalked off toward another crew member.
Alfred watched as the boy started moving the supplies which included slabs of wood and cloth to the right side of the complicated boat. Well he thought it was complicated anyway.
"Jack! Go get some wood!" The captain shouted.
"Isn't there some here we can use?" The boy asked, pointed toward the large slabs of wood.
"No! That's for building houses! We need to settle! Go into the woods! Go!" He barked and the boy sprinted off into the woods towards Alfred.
A-R-O-U-N-D-T-H-E-W-O-R-L-D
You sighed in slight annoyance as walked in the woods, looking for some spare bark. "Damn him. What a jerk." You didn't like dressing up as a guy and tricking everyone, but it was the only way you could sneak on the ship to explore the new world. When news came of the new world you were naturally curious, snuck on the ship as Jack and made the long journey. Now here you were in The Americas.
Unbeknownst to you, you were being watched by a boy your age. Alfred watched silently as you searched for wood. He knew the perfect place to get some birch bark for fires but he stayed silent for now. You took off your hat and untucked your (h/c) locks. You flipped them over your shoulder and out of your face then kept walking.
Alfred's eyes widened and he gasped.
You whipped your head around nervously. "Who's there?"
He covered his mouth with his hands and tried to be as quiet as possible. His breathing quickened and he wasn't doing a very good job of staying silent. You peered through a clearing in the brush and saw blue eyes staring into your own. Surprised, you jumped back a little with wide eyes.
"Ah!" You gasped quietly.
Alfred let a large smile on his face as he chuckled at your reaction. She's not as dangerous as I thought...
You fell on your bottom and your hair fell into your face. "W-who's there?" You barely managed to repeat out of shock.
Alfred smiled widely as he stepped out of the trees. "Hey! I am Alfred!"
You blushed slightly because the boy before you was basically naked. At least he had a small chest plate and loin cloth. "H-hello..." You mumbled back.
"I saw you when you took the headdress off! You're actually a female?!" He questioned loudly out of pure excitement. "Wow! I have never seen someone like you!"
You laughed nervously. "Headdress?."
Alfred ignored your question and instead asked another. "Why do you hide your true self from the world?" He asked, tilting his head to the side.
"Oh um... It's a little complicated.."
"Oh alright. What do you call yourself?" He smiled.
"My name is _____."
"Wow! Your name is so beautiful! _...__..__. _____. I enjoy it very much!"
You giggled. "You speak funny."
"Really? No one has ever said that to me before, they usually tell me about my vision." He shrugged.
"You have bad vision?"
He nodded. "But it doesn't change who I truly am!"
You smiled. "Well Alfred, I think I might be able to help you."
The next day you brought him some glasses. He tried them on and immediately started cheering. He ran around the forest saying things like "wow! I never knew the leaves were this color green!" Or "whoa _____! Look how blue the sky is!" You had to admit that it was adorable.
Everyday you would sneak away from your duties as helping out with building the town. And everyday you would go to meet Alfred in the same place that you first met. He would give you a tour of the forest and tell you about new animals. In return, you would tell him all about London and teach him a little better English. Slowly, you both found yourselves falling for each other.
"Hey Alfred!" You greeted as you ran to him, taking your hat off in the process.
You expected him to turn around and yell "hey _____!" Or even "what's up?!" You just taught him to say that.
Instead, Alfred stayed with his back facing you. You noticed that he had an extravagant headdress made of a variety of feathers and weavings. His chest plate was different, there were claws and different animal skins. Around his upper biceps were bands with leather and hawk feathers.
You slowed your pace down to a walk. "A-Al...?"
He weakly turned his head to you and the thing that was the most different about him was that below his dull eyes were two red stripes. "_____..." He murmured.
"What's wrong? What's with the dress?" You asked, very concerned.
He lowered his head. "Your captain... My father was shot..." Alfred walked toward you and looking into your eyes. You could see the sadness and despair in them. "_____... You need to leave... My people are going to attack..."
Your eyes widened. "That's horrible but--."
"We can't see each other anymore. I am...I'm the chief."
"That means you can call off the attack! Call it off! Those are innocent people!"
"_____. I can't... You know that... "
"Where am I going to go?" You asked.
"I know! You can come with my back to my village!"
"I don't think that's going to work.." You lowered your head.
Alfred grabbed your chin and made you look up at him. "I love you. I won't let you go back there..."
Your eyes widened and you blushed. "W-what.? You love me? I love you too!"
He beamed and wrapped his arms around your waist. "_____. This will work. I can't think of a life without you..." With that, he leaned down and kissed you. You kissed back and time froze. It was just you and him. And that was all the mattered. "Let's go back to my village."
You nodded and followed him back. It was rough at first but they accepted you. As for the people... You'd rather not think of that...
