The bombs on Japan were dropped on August 6th, 1945. This sent Kiku into a coma, and even afterwards. he was still very, very weak.

WWII ended one month later, September 2nd, 1945.

The countries met after Kiku going into the coma, realizing that nothing this bad bad ever happened before.

Alfred, who had tears running down his face, suggested that it didn't matter what the bosses wanted. That it had gone way too far.

He actually started sobbing his eyes out after that statement, everyone having to calm him down.

But they agreed to rebel a little against their bosses. That's why WWII ended less than a month after the bombings.

However, the bosses were infuriated. But they knew how to play their cards right, to make everyone suffer. They separated the Axis. Ivan's boss built the Berlin Wall, separating Gilbert from the western world. Than, Alfred and Ivan's bosses waged war on each other, Alfred and Ivan being forced into the Cold War.

But what could be even worse you ask? Instead of going and being taken care of by his big brother like one would expect, Kiku's boss stepped into the picture and took Kiku.

None of this fixed itself until the Fall of the Berlin Wall, almost thirty years later. No one got to see Kiku before everyone was separated and stuff, and he was still slightly injured, walking with a limp. So for a while, everyone just carried him around and held him like a baby until he was better.

The first few World Meetings after all of this were just excuses to see everyone and make sure they were still okay.
