Before Hans was exacuted, Fritz was aloud to see him one last time. This is what Hans told Fritz:

"Fritzy, promise me something: that even without me, you'll still find a reason to smile."

Fritz agreed, but only to make Hans happy. Though little did he know what little Gilly would do for him.
