We Need to Talk

Amelia wasn't sure what her Father wanted to talk to her about. He seemed like some realization had just dawned upon him after he had exited his study. She tried to theorize what he possibly wanted to discuss; Her grades in School? The Black vs Light Magic discussion? Prehaps even the dreaded topic of boys?

The little girl walked into the living room, finding her Father waiting for him with a sullen face. "You wanted to see me Father?" Amelia questioned.

"Please sit down Amelia," England requested.

She nodded and sat down on the couch as England sighed. Oh if only she knew what he was about to tell her would change her forever; with a quick sip of his tea down his throat, England turned to look at Amelia and then spoke, "Amelia, you and I both know that...well I'm not your biological Father."

"Yes Father," Amelia said with a nod. "But I still see you as more of a Father than my biological Father."

A small smile came to England's face before he caressed Amelia's cheek. "I'm glad you feel that way love." The smile faded though when he remembered the news he had to tell his child; "...Amelia, what would you think if I told you..."

"Told me what Father?"

"...I believe I knew who your real Father was."

It took Amelia a minute to process what England had just said. When she did, Amelia looked up at England with wide eyes. "Y-You're serious?" She questioned. "You knew, my real Father?"

"I believe so, yes,"

All sorts-of emotions were bouncing around inside of Amelia. There was happiness, saddness, a bit of anger, a lot of shock, and many other feelings she was having a hard time sorting out. Then tears ran down her cheeks.

"Amelia?" Britain was prepared to give her a tissue when she wrapped her arms around his waist. She sobbed into his jacket as he tried to comfort her.

"...Can you tell me about him?" Amelia asked after a bit of crying.

England nodded. "His name was William. He was a kind man and I know without a doubt that he loved you very much." He continued to rub her back as he explained. "I wanted to tell you right away, but I had to make sure. When we first met at that library, I knew you seemed familiar. Your Father would bring in an old photo of you when you were two and show it to me whenever he wanted to."

"Do you know where he is now?" She asked but was replied with a slow head shake of the head from England.

"He got sick at one point and...well I didn't keep track of him after he left. I wish I knew more." As England wiped Amelia's tears away, another realization dawned on him. He got up from his spot on the couch real quickly and then went to retrieve a book from his office. Inside was a spell he wished to try out: "Amelia, I'm going to try a memory spell on you to try and see if we can retrieve some of your earliest memories. They may hold the answers you seek."

Usually Amelia would've protested to something like this but then she looked at it from a different angle; she had the chance to discover about her real family, something she had wondered about since she was little. With a simple nod, Britain uttered the spell and slowly placed a glowing hand to Amelia's head and then made her close her eyes.

When Amelia opened them again, she found that she was no longer in her living room but in a living room she had never seen before. Is this it? She wondered as she stood up. Is this my home?

That's when she heard what sounded like a little girl laughing. She walked over to a room across the hall to find a library-like study. Inside were books as far as the eye could see with even a spiral staircase leading up to a second floor full of books. "What an impressive study," she muttered as she walked along.

That's when she heard the giggling again. Amelia stopped after walking around a corner because of what she saw; there was her two-year old self, laughing as she ran around with a man smiling as he chased her. He had brown hair, green eyes, and seemed to be of the gentlemanly type. "Amelia, I'm gonna get you little one," he chuckled as he chased after the little Amelia.

The older Amelia watched as William chased her tiny self until she was finally caught. "I got you~," he giggled as he picked the little toddler up off of the ground.

"Daddy, Daddy," the little Amelia repeated over and over again after she had been picked up.

Amelia smiled at the memory. Soon, she saw more memories, from her climbing up the bookshelf, to her learning how to read, to playing in the kitchen, and many more memories. The last memory though was probably the most painful to watch: William was starting to get sick and child services had stepped in.

"Sir, we'll have to take your daughter into foster care until you're well again," the woman explained to William, who lay sick in bed.

William shook his head weakly. He didn't want them to take his little girl away but he was so weak that he couldn't move around that much. He looked at Amelia, who was being held by the woman, and reached for her little hand. "...Amelia," he muttered in a weak voice. "Be strong love...I know you'll be alright...Just remember me, when you go on through life."

The woman then began walking away with little Amelia, who began to cry in protest. "Daddy! Daddy!" She cried as she was being taken away from her Father.

The older Amelia watched with tears in her eyes as she was being takwaway from her Father. She walked into the room and looked at William as he laid in bed sick. She went to grab his hand but found it went right through his. She had tried to touch him before but found it impossible. Still, it would've been nice to touch him at least once.

"I'm sorry I forgot about you Daddy," Amelia apologized. "I didn't mean to. I miss you."

As Amelia looked at her sickly Father, she saw him smile at her before slowly sitting up to caress her cheek. He then leaned in to give her a kiss on her head before whispering into her ear, "I miss you too."

Amelia blinked a few times before finding herself back in England's living room, laying down on the couch. She got up and walked towards her Father's study and found him hard at a work. She was about to leave him be when something inside her told her to go over to him. Amelia smiled at England before heading over to him to give him a hug.

"Thank you Daddy," she thanked.

England looked down at Amelia and then smiled at her before hugging her back. "You're welcome love. I'd do anything for you."

Ray did this picture of William and Amelia. It's absolutely precious!.
