Turkey was walking home from a football game and was mumbling under his breath. He was upset that the fact that his team had lost, which he believed shouldn't have happened. "The referee was blind," he muttered. "That guy totally fouled and didn't deserve that penalty kick."
As he dragged his feet, he noticed that some people in an alleyway were being robbed by someone. They were frail and weak couple that looked to be in their late 60's. "Give me your money!" The thief shouted.
"Help! Stop this thief!" The woman shouted as she tried to help her husband.
Turkey growled in annoyance. If more thieves keep this up, then I'll be losing more money! The turk thought as he cracked his knuckles. He knew he was going to have to prepare to show this thief what for.
Just when he was about to do so, Turkey noticed that there was a small figure in the a hood standing on one of the building's. Turkey squinted, trying to see who was standing up there. However, he couldn't get a good look because the figure jumped down and kicked the thief in the face, sending him to the ground.
Turkey gawked in shock as he watched the thief twitch in pain while the figure picked up the satchel of money that the thief had tried to take. The person then gave the satchel back to the couple. "Thank you so much," the old man thanked. The figure nodded before running down the alley.
Turkey was able to get out of his shock long enough for him to approach the couple. "Who was that?" He asked.
"That is The Masked One," the woman explained. "No one knows if it's a young man or woman, but they do know that the person stops thieves and helps those in need."
This "Masked One" looks to be no older than 5-years old, Turkey thought. I better find out who that child is.
***************
Weeks passed by and Turkey had yet to capture the child. Whenever he seemed so close to getting the child, he or she- Turkey believed it was a boy though considering how strong the child was- the child would slip out of his grasp. "Dang it!" Turkey shouted after another failed attempt. "How do I catch that child?"
As he tried to think, Turkey noticed that a young girl in ragged clothing was in the market place. She had brown hair and brown eyes similar to Turkey's. The girl was walking up to a fruit stand with a bag in her arms and would sneak in a few pieces when she thought no one was looking.
When she was sneaking down the alleyway that Turkey was in, Turkey grabbed her by the arm, trying not to be forceful though. "All right, I saw what you did. Why are stealing food?"
The girl growled in frustration. "Let go of me!" She shouted. "You can't prove I did anything wrong!"
"Oh really?" Turkey reached into the girl's bag and pulled out a piece of fruit. "Then what is this?"
The girl looked at the ground before using her other hand to grab Turkey's arm and flip him to the ground. Turkey's head began to throb in pain as he tried to sit up. "Sorry," the girl apologized before running off.
************
"Thank you," A little girl thanked The Masked One after getting a few pieces of food from the stranger. The figure nodded before running off into the shadows. After a while, the figure ducked into an abandoned building and took the hood off their head. This revealed the person to be the girl from the market place.
"Good," she sighed as she took off the hood on her head. "At least some people are being fed. That's the best I can do."
That's when the child noticed that some kids were playing outside. She wished to play with them too but knew she wouldn't be welcomed to do so. "I wish I had a Baba. Then I wouldn't be all alone."
As she watched the children play, she was unaware that Turkey was watching her. He had been listening to her talk and felt bad for her. He didn't realize that she was stealing to give to others. He had assumed the young girl was eating the food for herself. Now that he looked at the child, she seemed unnaturally thin. When was the last time she ate anything? Turkey thought as he looked at the young girl.
That's when an idea came to mind.
***************
Turkey placed a bowl of Kebaps outside the old house and waited for the little girl to come and get it. A few minutes later the girl came out of the house. She looked down at the food and then picked the bowl up and carried it back inside. She took a few bites loved to have the warm food enter her belly.
"This tastes so good," she said in between bites. "It's been so long since I've eaten."
"Well that's not right." A voice spoke.
The girl turned to see Turkey right behind her. "What are you doing here?"
"I should be asking you the same thing."
".....I live here. This was where I was raised by my Anne, before she...she was taken away."
Turkey saw the child's eyes begin to water. She couldn't have been any older than 5 and she was living on her own. He then went over to the little girl and picked her up. "It's okay little one," he whispered to the child. "What's your name?"
"Deniz," the girl muttered. "My name is Deniz."
"That's a lovely name."
Deniz looked up at Turkey and stared at his mask. She reached up and took it off. "Hey! Hold on a-"
Turkey tried to stop the child but she had already taken the mask off. She looked back at Turkey and saw his eyes were just like hers. Then she put the mask back on his face. "You're eyes are just like mine.....What now?"
"Well, I'm going to take you home."
".....Does that make you my Baba?"
Turkey smiled."That's right, I'm your Baba."
Deniz smiled as Turkey gave her a kiss on the head before he started walking towards his home.
