Chapter 3

A sudden splash of ice-cold water on my face wakes me up, I gasp for air as I sit upright on my now soaking bed, "good morning sunshine,"

"What the fuck is that for Seb?"

"Return gift for that goodnight kiss?" he shrugs, handing me a towel kept on a nearby chair.

"Real sweet," I said as I wiped the water from my face, "Who let you in?"

"No one, I came from the window,"

"Damn, one night with me and your breaking in skills have improved,"

"That sounds so wrong but okay," he says as he takes a seat on the carpet and starts scrolling on the phone. I sigh and head into the bathroom to get ready for expulsion from school. Initially, I had planned my entrance on my skateboard but since Seb is here that means I get to ride his bike, and now my entrance will be more dramatic than before.

Within five minutes we reached school but instead of parking the bike in the parking lot, I head straight towards the main entrance of the school, from behind, I hear Seb shouting but I zone it out and listen to my ecstatic heartbeat instead, I close my eyes as I brace for the impact of the glass doors breaking, just a millimeter away from them.

When the glass doesn't break, I open my eyes stopping the bike and see my biology teacher and my mother holding the doors open, with mortified facial expressions along with all the kids aligned in a line along the hallway. Shucks my mom ruined my dramatic moment.

Seb dismounts the bike first and faints onto the floor, which causes everybody's focused to shift from me to Seb only for a moment. I dismount the bike slowly and start heading towards the parking lot to park it, but just as I am about to leave my mom whispers in my ear, " Estas tan muerta," (you are so dead in Spanish).

Gasps are heard across the students who understood Spanish probably astonished that their principal is bilingual for my mother rarely spoke Spanish and for her to curse in Spanish meant she is mad, real mad.

I is debating on escaping but that would only lead to my mom disowning me, so I man up and head to her office to face the consequences. In my head, honestly this played out better and my mom didn't look like a fuming fire breathing dragon like the one painted outside her office. I push open the door and stand in the disorganized, heavily cluttered office of hers.

She glares at me, "Is Sebastian involved in all of this?"

"No," I mutter quickly, maybe too quickly because she gives me a suspicious look.

"Go empty your locker and sit outside the school, I will arrange you a cab to your new boarding school,"

"What about my clothes?"

"You can go shop there," she goes back to her work, showing that the conversation is over.

As I head towards my locker, so many bitches give me the stink-eye one even has the nerve to talk loudly to her friends, "Oh em gee, I heard that she manipulated Sebastian into talking to her," taunting me.

I am just about to rip her eyes out along with her fake eyelashes, almost looking like a broom when Seb takes my bag from me, carrying it for me.

"Relax, adding murder to your list of to do is not necessary," he says chuckling, "Anyway what's the status?"

"I am leaving for a boarding school," I say as I start emptying my locker into my bag.

"I know that but when?"

"Right now,"

"What!?" Seb's eyed widen, he is just about to say something when he got cut off by the announcement over the intercom, "Sebastian Vettel to reach the principal's office right now,"

I knew my mom wouldn't believe me, but still Seb doesn't deserve to get expelled. Before I could register what's happening, Seb has me in his arms, hugging tightly. I can feel his tears wetting my shoulder and honestly that's so gross.

"Okay, crybaby I have to go."

"I'll miss you Zo,"

"Jeez I am not dying you idiot, you can call me anytime," after loads of convincing that I am just a phone call away, Seb bids me goodbye and I head towards the glass doors, the second time today but this one being the last time I would ever walk out of this school as a student.

I take a last long look at the building behind me, and sit into the taxi, heading towards my new boarding school god knows where with nothing but my bag full of books and my phone.

"Excuse me? Where are we going?" I ask the cab driver.

"Seville," he grunts a response back, clearly not happy with me asking any questions.

I typed out Seville in Google Maps and it shows an eight-hour drive from Vermont, what the hell?

Just like Vermont, Seville is also a small town but with more jungles and known for its boarding schools, Norlight Boarding and Seville Norwesters. To me both schools sound like druggies went there.

I spent over an hour researching the schools and the only info I have gathered is about the principals, the uniforms, and the constant rivalry between the two schools in every field whether it is sports or debate. There are shit tons of articles on fights between the Norlights and the Norwesters even though the schools are like 3 miles apart from each other. I stopped using my phone because the battery left is just 5% and the journey is not even halfway done.

I grabbed 'One of Us is Lying' by Karen McManus and started rereading it even though I have read it about a thousand times and almost memorized all the lines.

I must have fallen asleep, because I jolt awake to the honking of cars, I sigh and check the time, it read 7:15 p.m. by my excellent calculations I think I will reach the school at around 8:00 p.m. maybe. I cross checked the stuff I was carrying because I didn't particularly trust the grumpy driver. After making sure I had everything and nothing was stolen, I went back to reading my book. I was only 15 minutes into the book when the driver said, "We are here," my calculations are way wrong.

I step out of the cab and am hit with the stormy dusty wave of air, making me squint my eyes. I look at the building ahead of me and it reads Seville Norwesters on a tarnished white and dark blue board, held loosely by metal rods which are attached to the stone building, shaped like a cathedral. This school easily resembles Hogwarts except it is ten times creepier with the poison ivy covering odd corners of the huge building, the jungle surrounding the ill-kept massive ground and the gloomy weather adding the cherry on top of the creepy shit hole this place looks like. I won't be surprised if the walls inside are covered in blood or there are dungeons in this place.

I sigh and start walking into the building, the first thing that caught my eye is a lady dressed in bright green, with violet spectacles sitting at the bridge of her nose seated behind a huge marble reception desk, her wrinkles are visible from far away and her hair are reduced to white whisps let's just say she barely looked alive. I take my chances and reach to her desk, "Excuse me? I am Zofia Carmen, and I am supposed to be joining today?"

She blinks at me and then suddenly jumps out of her seat and smiles widely, "Oh welcome back Hestia!!" She even comes around her marble desk and hugs me.

I think she misunderstood me for someone else? Maybe her hearing aid didn't work.

"EXCUSE ME, I AM ZOFIA CARMEN," I shout once she lets me go, which earns me a few glances from the students seated on homey couches with crocheted hippie blankets kept on them accompanied by small round tables with a money plant and random stuff kept on each.

"Oh, honey why didn't you say so before? Have a seat on the couch over there and I'll do your paperwork."

Isn't the paperwork usually done beforehand? I sigh and sit on the nearest sofa, occupied by a dark-haired boy immersed deeply in his phone.

I take a Choco chip cookie from the bowl kept on the round table and munch on, before I know it, I have finished the bowl of cookies and the only thing left are the crumbs in the bowl and on my clothes. I dust them off and feel someone staring at me, only to find it's the boy seated next to me.

He glares at me with his dark green eyes which evidently express anger towards me for God knows what reason.

"Bitch, you just ate my cookies," he says in low whisper with a holy fucking as deep as the Pacific Ocean voice.

"Sorry, what?" I heard him well enough the first time, but I would like to hear him curse again.

"Wow, so you are dumb and deaf? Unbelievable."

Okay who gave him the right to talk to me like that? Even my mom can't say shit to me, just because he is pretty doesn't give him the right to say crap to me.

"Okay listen up, you dumb fucking Swiss roll, I ate the cookies I admit it, I would've apologized too if you weren't such a fussy brat over some cookies,"

"Who said I want your apology? I want you fucking dead." he says back, looking me dead in the eyes.

Just as I am about to retort back a lame roast the receptionist calls out, "Zofia, darling,"

I get up and collect my timetable, floorplan and dorm keys and start heading out towards the dorms, but before I do, I flip my middle finger to the guy with the cookies who is apparently also shooting daggers at me through his eyes.
