HESITATE
Like every other day Jimin sat on the swing, looking at the setting sun that colored the world around him orange and yellow. He liked these colors, they looked pretty. He wasn't pretty like the sun. He was unlovable because he can't give anyone love. He was alone because he couldn't let people close, he felt lost.
Again he let out a sigh, so many times he had sighed already. But it was needed, he felt so exhausted all the time, everything was hard. He barely could get out of the house to walk to this swing. Every time he thought that it would be the last time he had to walk here.but each time he found himself back in his bed, again having to face another day living. It was getting harder, he tried to get better. He really did, but everytime something bad happened, things just seemed to hit harder. Every setback would push him back into that dark hole, back into the place he struggled to get out of.
but he had stopped trying. it wasn't worth it anymore, he didn't see the point. First he wanted to make his parents proud by showing them how well he did and how many skills he had. But ever since he lived alone he didn't have any purpose to do things anymore, he didn't have any obligation to do them. So he spent time on a chair staring at his phone or the tv. He didn't meet his friends anymore, he didn't go out anymore. He just sat there, watching the days go by. going to work only because he was expected to be there. Doing exactly as asked and going home, repeating the cycle all over again.
he had grown tired.
he really did not see any point to do this anymore.
Another sigh left Jimin's nose and he looked at the lake, he can do this.
just do it,
it only hurts for a little moment,
Why am I scared?...
He frowned and grabbed the chains of the swings. He can do this, he doesn't have to be scared, he won't know anything anymore, he won't exist anymore. it's just for a little moment.
yes,
He will do it.
Finally he had made up his mind and he was about to stand up when another person flopped onto the swing next to him. With shocked eyes Jimin sat back down and stared at the sand below his feet.
This was unexpected.
Why was this person here?
Can he leave?
"Hey there, you okay?" a new voice asked.
pretend you're deaf, don't respond
"uhm, hello?" the person bent down to catch his eyes. Jimin mentally cursed and smiled warmly.
"Hello there, yes I am okay. What about you? what brings you here this late?" Jimin asked. showing off his happy act.
"I came to talk to you, I've seen you here almost everyday for a while now. I thought you looked lonely. Maybe you wanted a friend?"
"oh" Jimin wasn't sure how to respond to such a thing, how can the stranger be so on point. Jimin did feel lonely, and he did can use a friend. But he shouldn't, he will only disappoint him, even this stranger will leave him eventually, just like all his childhood friends did. He had no one now, no one to talk to other than his parents. but he doesn't want to talk to them, they won't understand. He will only make things awkward. No he can't tell them, he just has to disappear. That's the easiest solution. Just like always, he runs away from his problems.
"Do you want me to leave?"
Jimin was silent for a few seconds before he answered. "no"
"Alright, uhm... What is your name?" the stranger asked. He looked about the same age.
"Jimin.... you?" Jimin replied. He could always try... right? another heartbreak, he can take only one more. He will try it one last time.
"Jungkook, nice to meet you!" the raven haired boy said and smiled. "sooo, why are you out here everyday." he asked. but Jungkook had seen a lot, there was something going on with jimin. seeing his slumped figure, his sad eyes, and him just sitting there, he wasn't even swinging. He just.. sat there. Jungkook being the golden hearted boy he was, approached him, maybe he can help. He had always found this guy interesting but he was too shy to approach him and actually start a conversation, until today.
"just... to watch the sun"
lies
Jungkook hummed in response. "i see, the sun is indeed pretty. But really, you watch the sun everyday. don't you get bored from it?"
"i am"
"Then why do you keep watching?"
Jimin shrugged. This response worried Jungkook a little. He hoped that what he thought was true but he feared that it was. He had seen it happen once and doesn't want to see it twice. He can't see anyone else take their life away.
"Does the sun calm you and let you think?"
Just the right words. hinting at something without mentioning the word.
Jimin nodded. The sun did just that. It calmed him down and let him think . the sun didn't judge, the sun didn't have any emotion, it just gave. it just gave him warmth while he was lost in thoughts.
"Are you here to look at your way to freedom?" Jungkook's eyes turned concerned and he looked at Jimin who avoided any eye contact ever since he took a seat here. Even without a reply in words the hesitant nod from the other was enough to make jungkook's heart crack. Another person on the edge, Jungkook, can't let it happen. He already lost someone, he won't lose anyone again. not when he can do something about it, he can't help Jimin. he can be his friend and encourage him to get help. "Do you need a friend?"
Jimin shrugged.
"I can be your friend," Jungkook smiled. Jimin looked up and took a short look at the raven.
"Sorry, I'm not so... fun to be friends with."
"Come on, I'm sure you are. I'm normally not this extrovert, don't worry, you can just nod and shake your head!"
"really?" Jimin was confused, why would anyone like that? Why would anyone talk to someone who didn't talk back properly? Something Jimin just gave up on in general. He struggled a lot to put his thoughts and feelings into words and always just smiled them away or joked about it. Once things got more heavy and serious he would not know what to say and out of stress he had to cry. He felt so full in his head, even the slighted disturbance would make him have a breakdown. So he avoided everything and his ability to form words got only worse.
"yes! come, tell me about yourself"
"I'd rather... listen" jimin said worried that jungkook would get angry, he already could feel himself tearing up after he said it, i probably upset the other. oh no, this was bad-
"Alright, I will tell you about me then" jungkook nodded hoping it would calm the other down. He could see Jimin's legs swing back and forth restlessly. "I really like music, I am a music student. I want to become a singer one day. and I like art as well. I draw in my free time when I take a little break from music. Oh and I really like to work out, keep myself fit and in shape."
Jimin nodded, showing that he was listening. his leg had stopped swinging, he completely focussed on Jungkook who kept talking about himself and what he did on a day. even if some things weren't so interesting, like what he ate this morning or what book he read. Jimin didn't get to talk to people a lot so he was taking in everything and enjoyed that someone even wanted to talk to him.
"So, that's me" Jungkook said and ended his story, he didn't have anything else to say. and he hoped that jimin would say something now. "do you want to talk now?"
"i..... i like..." Jimin frowned, what does he like? he remembered dancing was his passion, he remembered the days he would dance all day as much he could, times where he would just be completely lost in his dance that the time flew by. everything had to do with dancing. but now... he just doesn't feel like getting up and actually doing it. He doesn't feel like putting in the effort to move, all he could do was stare at the mirror and listen to his favorite dance songs go by without even doing one step. "i used to dance" he changed his sentence.
"dance? that's amazing, were you good at it?"
Jimin remembered the medals he had won and nodded. "really good"
"but you don't dance anymore i think?"
"no"
"Do you have any other hobbies or interests?"
"not really... i don't know '' jimin shrugged. he didn't do anything else than dance, yes he did some photography on the side and scribbles on paper, but nothing really gave him motivation to put effort in it and keep going. He just did what was expected of him and left it at that.
He was a disappointment.
"That's alright, I'm sure you will find something one day! do you like art?"
Jimin took a moment before he nodded.
'Would you like to see my drawings?'
"Sure," Jimin smiled a little.
"I can bring them here tomorrow, but you will have to come meet me here again, alright?"
"what" jimin frowned. He will have to go home again, he will have to go through another day? He turned his head and looked at the calm lake, the sun was almost completely down by now. But then he sighed and nodded."okay, i will be here"
"promise me" Jungkook said, a slight desperate tone in his voice.
"i.... I promise, '' Jimin said. but only because Jungkook was going to come here. He doesn't want to disappoint anyone else, he doesn't want to hurt anyone else. He wants others to be happy, knowing he himself won't be happy again. So he will go home again and wait until he can meet this Jungkook again.
yes,
that's what he did.
He went home and waited. waited for the next day and the sun would set. knowing Jungkook was waiting for him at the swing. He can do this one more time.
