Chapter 20
Dustin cursed in frustration as he reached Misty voice mail once again. He was a bunch of nerves and an agitated mess. His mind was on overdrive and filled with scenarios he hoped did not come to be a reality.
He had left numerous voice messages and knew that one more wasn't going to make a difference. He ended the call and marched up the stairs just to get himself moving. He did not like the vibe he was getting. There was a deeply rooted sense of dread in the pit of His stomach. He knew something bad was afoot.
He found himself going into his sister's room as if drawn there by some mystical pull. He walked over to the writing desk and pulled the drawer open. Inside was a stack of pink envelopes and writing paper, also there were crumpled writing paper and bits and pieces of a phone shell that had the swimming team colour and monologue. At the sight of the shattered shell, he felt his heart increase its pace.
How far had Misty gone in this obsession with Erin? He took a deep breath and held it as he stood there. He was not sure he wanted to know but he knew he must. He could not by no means allow Misty to fall apart and diminish herself when they had come so far. He let out the breath in one loud release and tried to relax as he reached for the crumpled paper with a sense of dread.
He sat by the desk as standing became too much for him and smooth out the balled paper. Afraid of what he was going to discover he conditioned himself to do what must be done. When the paper was laid out before him uncompelled all he found was the words Hers Only written over and over in angry strokes.
He did not have full clarity on this but he knew that it was nothing good. He sighed in frustration and made to get up from the table when his hand brushed against the mouse bringing to life the computer screen that had gone dormant.
He found himself face to face with a collage of Erin in various shots with Lisa, but what scared him was the fact that the pictures that did not have Lisa's face marked out had Misty's face pasted over Lisa's.
"Dustin did you get to her?" he heard Linda ask from the doorway but his mind was too wrapped around the dismal representation of the pictures that were displayed on the computer screen.
It was clear to see that Misty's obsession had gotten way out of hand. His body trembled as his heartbeat with dismay. Why was this happening?
How could after all they have risen above the past trauma of their lives were still able to drag them back to the dregs of its existence?
When he failed to answer and just sat there silently staring at the computer Linda came in to see what held his attention.
"O hell!" she gasped her body turning cold with fear.
"Call mom and dad and tell them what's happening. I need to find my sister", he said after he dragged himself away from his trance then rushed from the room.
Linda slumped against the chair and breathed deeply as she tried to calm her racing heart. If Dustin was so connected to Misty was he too prone to such behaviour? Were they so deeply embedded as twins that he too could be so callous? Another thought dawned on her if he should lose Misty, what would become of him?

Misty could feel Dustin trying to probe his way into her thoughts but she pushed him away. He was just trying to protect her she knew but unlike her father, she could deal with Lisa. He was however beginning to get on her nerves with both his physical and mental interference.
He had no reason to fight this battle; for her, she was no longer the helpless little girl he had to protect.
She tried to push aside the conflicting feelings inside so as not to get sidetracked by the task at hand, but Dustin was not giving up.
If only Linda wasn't such a duck she would have had him in bed right now and given him something to focus on besides her, seeing that their parents were already on their way out of town. She was such a fool, always wasting a good opportunity.
She knew how Linda felt towards their brother but instead she just waddled behind him putting her skills as a good entertainment manager into the success of his band.
She was not so laid and stupid to believe that time paved the way for what must be. Hell no! If you wanted anything you had to either wrestle it from life or just point blank go out take it with no hesitation and no questions asked.
It had once been her way to just slink in the shadows, go with the flow and keep herself safe from the cruelty that came with giving yourself to someone but then Erin came and all that changed.
She was in love with Dustin and she did nothing but sit aside and let him know nothing of it. Well not her, Erin would know tonight just how her love for him was insurmountable.
She glanced at her watch, it was now 4:35 pm in the next few minutes Erin's grandmother and his guardian would be heading out for her Friday night Bingo game so there would be no problem having him alone. The thought filled her with deep rooted excitement.
But his time was not yet. She had to take care of the matter at hand first. So with her mindset on having what should have been rightfully hers, she drove away from where she had parked and made a slow journey up to LookOut point.

Question: Would Lisa's kindness and the friendship she offered to Misty prevail against the emotional trauma that fuels her?
