If Ajax had the choice of falling into the ocean or listening to this tiny thing cry for hours on end, he would choose to drown. Anything over this annoying little creature crying louder then he ever thought this thing could. And in his ear no less! He was one sob away from taking this thing and throwing it.

The fox creature was fully awake and crying for no reason. Maybe when he wandered into the next village he could get someone to get this thing to calm down. The "baby's" hands were slapping his chest as it cried. Ajax sighed. The creature soon tried to start eating the hand that was holding it up. Ajax thought for a moment.

"Are you hungry? Is that why your being the most annoying thing ever?" The "baby" finally stopped its sobs for just a moment to try and munch on the side his finger again. Ajax huffed. What did this creature need to eat? Ajax never ate really anything. He had no reason too.

Blood was a no-go. If this thing was a tiny Mobian then blood wouldn't be a good food option. He'd seen a Mobian eating some type of fruit one time. Was that what it needed? Fruit?

The sun was high in the sky today, the bright colors reflecting off his own golden fur. He decided to use some of his powers to lift the creature in the air, making sure to let it keep trying to eat his hand as it finally stopped crying and he didn't want to listen to that again.

Then, he let himself also float in the air his legs folded underneath him as he let his power take them to the next village before his destination at a quick pace but not too fast to startle the thing biting his hand. The creature was still focused on eating his finger as he watched it use its tiny pointy teeth to munch lightly on his hand. Two tiny hands holding onto his own to keep it steady.

"I wonder why you insist on trying to eat my hand." He chuckled. The tiny thing didn't bother acknowledging him. Ajax's grin was replaced with a small smile. He shook his head.

It would been dark soon, that meant a ton of demons would be roaming around the village he was headed to, Mobians being more vulnerable at night then during broad daylight. He glared at nothing at this thought. That's means that this...tiny thing would also be more vulnerable.

But then he thought back to the fire a few days prior. The fire had seemed to ignore this "baby". As well as the smoke... there was something off about this two-tailed creature. Good thing the one he was going to see now was the best at figuring these things out. Besides, his friend had a little help.

Ajax let the breeze let his good mood come back at the thought of seeing him again. Closing his eyes he smirked. He knew he wouldn't be happy to see him at all, their last interaction being his banishment from ever steeping foot near that territory forever. But, Ajax only followed that rule for so many eons too humor him.

A soft yup caught his attention, he looked down at his hand to see the small fox creature looking up at him with a tilt to its head. Another yip and a twitch of a orange—yellow ear.

"Huh. Can't talk but at least you can make some other noice then that obnoxious crying from earlier." Ajax hummed. Now that his hand wasn't being munched on he decided to grab the tiny creature with his other, letting it sit on top of his hand as he looked down at the one that was a snack for a good half—hour.

His hand looked fine other then the small indents the things teeth left. It tore up his only good pair of gloves though. Ajax smirked. He looked at the creature in his other hand. Sitting quietly as it played with its own tail the other appendage swishing happily against his hand.

In the back of his mind, a soft whisper of his own voice said, "cute isn't it? You're going soft for it—" Ajax shook his head frantically. Gritting his teeth in anger. He wasn't going soft. He was simply amused by this creatures odd actions. He would never go soft. But the owner of his own voice, but softer and...kinder crept up and sent shivers down his spine. Ajax clenched his eyes closed tightly.

The voice left soon enough.

He wasn't going soft.

_______________

A mage silently lifted her book into the air, as it floated in front of her she recited one of the spells from it. Soon a large cloud of fog surrounded her, making her quills fly back at the winds. Inside the fog she saw an image of a certain golden demon smirking in front of her.

"What does he have to do with this...?" She wondered. And then, the image faded into a...fox? Two tails and bright blue eyes. A child. She gasped. Covering her mouth as the image changed again, the demon and the child showing up at the same time.

What surprised her was the fact the child seemed to be laughing in the still image in the fog, the demon was grinning. The golden demons hands were holding up the child and the demons spiral eyes seemed to beam with downright joy

"He found the child of light...?" she said softly. She uncovered her mouth. Why was her vision showing her this? The child had no business being near someone so blood—thirsty and power hungry. A demon! But as she looked at the image in front of her she couldn't help but sigh in relief. The child and the demon seemed happy.

To further confuse her, the image disappeared, and another fox popped up. A cloak covering most of his body other than his face, an older fox, white instead of yellow and dark grey eyes. The mages eyes widened.

"No way..." she sputtered out in shock. A woman faded in beside the white fox. She was a wolf hybrid. The mage felt her hands shake.

"The defenders of souls..? What do they have to do with the child of light!?" She yelled out in confusion. Her vision answered her question. The golden demon was shown again, back towards her and his hands were clenched. The next image showed the fox and the woman once more, both standing slightly apart as the child of light was shown between them. Glowing with a bright light as three orbs formed in front of them. One for the fox and the wolf hybrid, and one for the child of light.

Her vision faded after that.

"That didn't answer my question! What does this mean?!" She yelled out to the room. Her book snapped closed and fell to the ground with a hard thud. The mage walked over to her book and picked it up. She frowned. Her vision was never so unclear before...

What was going on..?

Suddenly, a book fell from one of her shelves making her jump at the sound. The spirits in her home giving her a clear sign. She walked towards the fallen book and picked it up, reading the familiar cover.

"The legend of the defenders." It read, she squinted. The old book she had loved when he was a child, but she had forgotten about it until now years later.

The book began to glow, and hovered out of her hands. She watched the book open abruptly, pages flipping quickly. The large book suddenly pausing mid air- the pages stopped turning after a moment. Then it glided towards her, lowing down so she could gently grab it in her hands and she read the chapter title of the page it stopped on. As it continued to glow she read.

"Life in his hands, bringer of courage and savior of those who have fallen. A warrior of strength and a demon of loyalty." She read softly, the page glowed again lighting up a sentence near the bottom of the page. Confused, she read the glowing text. "He held the light in his hands, lighting up with the power higher then the gods he combines the light with his own power. Bringing warmth through the forest. Letting the power grow in their gentle hands." She read, the page flipped far into the book again and stopped on a random page, another box of text glowing before her eyes.

"With his loyal friend, his bonded sister in arms, he and her power combined exploded the forest in a ball of fire and heat. The ball of light hovering above them, his bonded sister grabbed it in her gentle hands and the forest healed, anew to a more healthy, beautiful magic forest. This forest now known as the forest of stars." Her eyes widened as she continued to read.

"With his bonded sister they let the ball of light merge with the forest through the ground. The forest was sealed with their power. Hidden from our world." The book slammed closed and dropped onto the ground.

The forest of stars? She's heard that name before! She ran to her book shelves and starts frantically searching for the book.

"Ah!" She finally found the book and she quickly opened the book. She started reading.

"The forest of stars, created by the gods of this world, the protectors of all kind. This forest was a forest of light and magic made up of their combined power. The two demon gods sealed it away from our world after a demon tried to destroy the forest and steal its power. This demon was a dear friends of one of the two gods. The perpetrator of the two, the pure bloods friend was sealed away, trapped between life and death."

She took a batted breath.

"The two gods disappeared after this. The pure blood destroyed by grief of his friend. Never being seen for hundreds of years, and still now. Some say that they still protect all creatures and roam around in plain sight. Others say they hide away in the forest sealed away with its power and hidden forever." She stopped reading.

She put her book away and then suddenly ran out her door, slamming it behind her.

_______________

Arriving to the village a few hours later, Ajax dropped himself and the creature down gently onto the ground. The creature was now sleeping in one of his arms while it clenched the sleeve of his cloak tightly between tiny hands. The glow of lamps lighting up to road bellow them. But his golden glow stood brighter then any lamp could. He lit up the streets easily.

If he wasn't a being of pure enraged energy and bloodlust he could maybe take time to appreciate how Mobians built their homes. The wood and smell of lavender used to help them sleep at times, other times it seemed to be a common way of showing affection. Lavender, it smelled nice. Be he didn't focus on that for now. Instead he listened to the small sounds of rumbling coming from the tiny creature in his arm. (He only needed one to carry this tiny creature.)

Walking around for a moment reminded him that the "baby" needed some type of food. Ajax paused where he stood, tapping his foot on the ground, not caring about the force of the impact as it created small craters in the ground as he thought. He could just rob one of the houses. If someone spotted him? Easy he'd kill them.

Or, he could see if a shop was open, if that's what it was called at least.

He decided on the first option.

Letting his nose guide him around the village, he soon stopped in front of a small shack-like house. The smell of a burning fire and what seemed to be the smell of meat hitting his nose.

Surprisingly when he was about to kick the door down, the wooden door opened. There light inside of the small house, and when he walked inside he slammed the door behind him. He heard a small startled yell from what seemed to be the kitchen of the house.

Unsheathing his claws on one hand he slowly walked inside the house.

After a moment he stopped dead in his tracks when he saw a woman Mobian hedgehog, probably around her mid 50- early 60's walk out holding a large bowl of what seemed to be some type of broth and some meat. She smiled at him. Her dark pink quills up half up-and tied in a bun on top of her head eye bags and soft wrinkles under her soft blue eyes. She wore a blue robe around her.

(Art: me!!) (pretend I colored it—)

"Sorry dear, I knew I had visitors but I didn't know you would come so quickly!" He stood in front of the closed door with a shocked look on his face. He was obviously a demon, his glowing fur and spiral eyes proved that. But this woman didn't seem to be afraid at all. He gritted his teeth. The woman set the large bowl down on top of a small table next to some furniture.

A wiggle in his arms brought his attention away from the old woman. He looked down at the arm holding the small creature to his chest and saw the tiny things eyes start to blink open. Tiny muzzle opened for a yawn, and tiny hands begin to lightly bunch up.

He heard a gentle giggle at this. He snapped his head up and glared at the woman.

"I could kill you right now." He warned, the woman smiled softly at him.

"Well, Ive lived a long and good life so I'm not bothered by the idea of my death." She said softly.

"And Don't worry dear. No one knows you're in this village but me. Not a single hunter is on their way, but I know you wouldn't have a problem with that would you?" She said as a matter of factly. That left him even more shocked. The woman sat down at the small table, sitting down on one of the chairs. Ajax noticed the small shake in her legs when she tried.

"Sit down if you'd like, there's plenty of food if you decide to try and eat something other then blood. And feel free to make yourself at home." She said, grabbing a smaller wooden bowl on the table and then a smaller wooden spoon and getting some of what was inside the bigger bowl into her own smaller one. Ajax watched her cautiously, his eyes glaring into the back of her head as she ate without a care in the world.

Soon a loud grumbling sound came from the creature in his arms. And a soft cry as well. The woman paused and set her spoon down next to her bowl. She turned and faced Ajax again.

"He seems hungry, I have some oranges in that basket over there, they are fresh and should do nicely to fill up his stomach." She pointed a shaky hand towards a small basket near the other side of the room. He huffed as the creature gave another whiny cry and he felt a tug at his cloak.

He slowly began to walk carefully to the other side of the room towards the basket. Ajax made one of the oranges float up and into his hand. He looked back over towards the woman who was watching him with a smile.

"I can peel that for you if you'd like?" She asked kindly. Ajax hesitated but another cry came out of the creature and he ignored his 'tear every thing apart' — instincts and instead let the orange float over to her and into her ready hand. With her gentle hands she peeled apart the skin off the orange and gently separated the slices.

"Here you go." She lifted all the slices in her hand up and let his power take them to him. He didn't move from his spot on the other side of the house. No matter how kind this woman seemed to be, he didn't trust her one bit. And despite his power and his clear strength he felt wary of this old, seemingly nice, woman.

He let the arm carrying the creature slowly shift and he kneeled down and set the tiny fox onto the floor. The fox sat on the floor and looked up at him while tilting its head.

Ajax huffed, grabbing one of the slices in the air and into his hand, he held the slice of orange up to the creatures face. Tiny hands reached up and gently grabbed the slice from his hand and the creature soon opened its mouth, showing tiny sharp teeth as the creatures mouth then began to gently munch on the little slice of orange.

Gnawing on the slice of orange, Ajax silently continued to watch. Making sure the tiny thing didn't choke.

"Hm, I never would've thought that a demon such as yourself would ever wander around with a child." The woman spoke up. Ajax looked over at her and glared harshly. Then he asked the question that's been on his mind since the woman first spoke.

"How did you know I was coming?" He snapped, his voice cold and harsh. The woman didn't hesitate in her answer.

"I placed a spell over this village. I know who enters and who will enter." She pointed to her left eye it turned a soft green color instead of the normal blue. "The world has blessed me with the vision of the future. I can see major evens and minor events about to happen. That's how I know about you, Ajax."

Her eyes changed back into its normal color. Ajax sat there stunned. The woman picked up her spoon and continued to eat like normal. Ajax turned his head down to the fox sitting in front of him. The fox had finished its piece of orange and was looking up at the others too far up for the little creature to reach.

Ajax grabbed a piece of orange from the air and let the little fox grab it from his hands. The fox, now happy that it got another piece, started to wag its two tails.

"Quite the enchantment isn't he? Two tails and the heart of a phenix. What a magical child." The woman said. Ajax looked at her.

"What do you mean?" He asked. She chuckled.

"Dear, that child is the child of light. Born from the meadows of shadows and the power of the two demon gods. Of course, he only holds its energy, the light inside him caused his two tails." The woman said, but before Ajax could say something she spoke again.

"It will take many years for this child to show signs of power. He is just a normal Mobian child. The light had chosen his soul to attach itself to." Ajax hummed at the information she didn't hesitate to give him. He was known for being power hungry and always searching for more strength and power. Why had she told him?

"Why would you tell me all of this? If you know who I am?" He asked, suspicious at this womans actions. She simply stood up from her place at the table and picked up another empty bowl next to the larger bowl with the food inside it. She picked up the wooden spoon next to it and scooped some of the contents of the bowl inside the other empty one.

Once she was done she slowly walked over to where Ajax was kneeling down in front of the tiny fox eating. She stopped when he growled at her when she got too close. She backed up a few steps and set the bowl down on the ground and set a smaller wooden spoon inside the bowl.

"You've already sensed his power haven't you? Yet you haven't done anything to this child but care for it 'till now. You may not see it but you two have bonded already. Your souls have been glowing brighter in the presence of each other. Weather you like it or not." She winked. Ajax huffed and looked away. Deciding to look at the fox instead as it ate.

"So, you can see souls?" He asked after a second, not bothering to look at her but continued to watch the little fox munch on the slices of orange.

"Not really, I can sense them. I can only see them when I use my magic." Ajax nodded to himself. The woman and him were silent for a few minutes. The woman hummed after another minute of silence. Ajax met her gaze. Her left eye was a different color again.

"What?" Ajax asked her. Her gaze seemed to peer into his soul. Literally.

"Your soul has two sides to it...odd." Ajax stilled. He knew exactly what she meant, and what exactly she was seeing. He grit his teeth as anger suddenly began to bubble up inside him.

"One side is golden, like you...but the other side...it's blue—" Ajax stood up abruptly.

"Shut up!" He yelled out at her. At the force of his voice the whole house suddenly began to shake, cracks forming on the walls the woman was on the ground, covering her ears. Ajax used his power to lift her body in the air, his hands bunched up against his sides.

"Don't go poking around in areas you have no business looking at!" He snapped at her. Suddenly, a loud cry came from behind him. Ajaxs eyes widened. He let the woman drop to the ground (he ignored the sound of a sharp, pained breath choke out of her at the fall) as he turned around and looked down at the creature that made the noice.

The tiny fox creature was crying, looking up at him with fat tears rolling down its cheeks. Ajax sighed. He kneeled down and picked up the small fox. Letting it nuzzle against his chest.

The woman made herself known again when he heard a cough behind him. The woman wheezed a pained breath as she struggled to sit up correctly. Ajax squinted. He sighed deeply when the woman's arms fell from under her. She seemed to curl in on herself, shaking. Eyes clenched shut.

The fox in his arms apparently saw as well. The tiny things eyes looking up at his own worriedly. He groaned. Gritting his teeth and shutting his eyes annoyingly.

Lifting one hands in the air the woman was slowly lifted as well. He refused to meet her shocked expression. He moved his hand slowly and he moved her over to one of the empty chairs in the room. Gently letting her slowly set herself on the chair he removed his power. The golden glow around her disappeared.

She let her arm lay across her torso and she sighed in what seemed to be relief. One of her eyes opened to greet his scowling face.

"Thanks dear..." she half laughed. A gentle laugh.

Ajax blushed in embarrassment.

"What? I didn't want you laying around like a rag-doll." He scoffed. The woman simply let out an airy laugh. She then closed her eyes and sighed a long sigh. The fox was now sleeping against Ajax peacefully. Ajax watched as the tiny fox wiggled until it was comfortable until it stilled.

"I'm sorry for going over your boundaries. I didn't not intend to bring up some difficult memories." The woman spoke after a moment of peaceful silence. Ajax looked over at her. She was now sitting up more in the chair, eyes on him and a gentle smile on her face.

Ajax turned his head away. The wall suddenly being more interesting.

"Tell me your name." He said softly. She gave him a confused look.

"Hm?"

"Your name. What is it?" He spoke a little louder. Looking at her now. She smiled at him.

"My name? It's Elena Rose." Elena said and beamed happily at him. Then her face fell after a second, like she was thinking. Then she smiled again.

"How about you stay in my daughters room for the night? She's long moved away and I'm sure the child and perhaps yourself need some proper rest." She said. She grabbed the edge of the chair and slowly tried to stand, her legs shook for a second and she plopped back down on the chair. Giving a groan of pain. Ajax frowned at the pathetic display.

Ajax grunted and let out a 'tch' while he walked over to Elena and let his free hand reach out towards her. Elena gave him a perplexed look before smiling brightly, closing her eyes and accepting his hand. He let her grip his hand and pull herself up.

"I'll show you to her room. Stay as long as you'd like." She said. And with his silent help she began leading the way to the other room. Her hand still holding gently onto his.
