'Where does it come from?'

'This quest, this need to solve life's mysteries. When the simplest of questions can never be answered.'

'Why are we here? What is the soul? Why do we dream?'

'Perhaps we'd be better of not looking at all. Not delving not yearning. That's not human nature, not the human heart. That is not why we are here.'

꧁❃❃❃꧂

The bright sun shown over the horizon. India was hot this time of year. Boots clattered across the stone path as a blond woman made her way to a room. Her phone buzzed and she answered, already knowing who was on the other end.

"Peter? What's up?" Her voice was soft, yet her pace did not slow. She listened carefully to the voice on the other end, wondering why her friend had called.

"Hey Rose , how's the trip?" He started, obviously not trying to push to much. This made Rose smile, a concerned friend he was, but he didn't know half of it.

"It's fine, I'm grateful the hospital allowed me to take some time off to do this trip though. I may be able to get some answers." She didn't go into detail, she didn't want to. Saying it out loud was not going to help her. . . situation.

"Answers to what?" Peter seemed intrigued, curious why his friend went so far to take a trip to India to get some 'answers.' Rose didn't answer as she came up to her stopping point. She had stopped outside a room that had a few people going in.

"It's a long story. If I happen to find the answers, I'll explain them to you. For now, destiny is calling. I'll be back in New York within a week." The two friends said their goodbye, and Rose took a deep breath after putting her phone away. She adjusted her black gloves and stepped in the room, a lecture hall, and sat down comfortably.

The lecture started, led by a doctor. Doctor Mohinder Suresh. The class listened as the Doctor spouted off his believes in evolution and abilities. Rose squirmed in her seat, listening as he kept going, continuing.

"Man is a narcissistic species by nature. We have colonize the four corners of our tiny planet. But we are not the pinnacle of so-called evolution." He turned away from the world map, wandering the room as he glanced from person to person. "That honor belongs to the lowly cockroach. Capable of living months without food. Remaining alive headless for weeks at a time, resistant to radiation. If God has indeed made himself in his own image, then I submit to you that God, is a cockroach."

Mohinder leaned against a desk looking around the room. The group stared at him, before whispering among themselves, small laughs echoed slightly, about his crazy spewing. This causes Mohinder to sigh and continue pushing.

"They say that man uses only a tenth of his brain power, another percent and we might actually be worthy of god's image." Rose locked eyes with Doctor Suresh, who gave a soft smile as she held her breath. "Unless, of course, that day has already arrived." This made Rose pause. Does he know?

"The Human Genome Project has discovered that tiny variations in a man's genetic code are taking place at increasingly rapid rates." He turned away still looking to each people, seemingly compassionate about what he was talking about. "Teleportation, Levitation, Tissue regeneration. Is this outside the realm of possibility? Or is man entering a new gateway to evolution? Is he finally standing at the threshold to true human potential?" He seemed to stop suddenly, looking up at someone who entered the lecture hall. Rose glanced over to see another well dressed Indian, he doesn't believe him.

"I'm sorry. I'm out of time." He stated causing the students to stand up. Leaving the room in a hurry. Rose sat for a second, as the classroom cleared out. Suresh pulled up files as he spoke to the man, Rose's ears were wide open to listen.

"I know, I know, I'm beginning to sound like my father. I can't help it." He started, sounding slightly resigned. Rose started to stand as the room was only filled with the three. "You know, they can fire me too, if they like. But there is something to it, Nirad. As crazy as it sounds."

Something gave pause to Rose, finally both noticed the look on Nirad's face, and Rose felt as if it was a bad time to stay. However she needed answers, and Chandra Suresh was not answering her calls. She was resigned to find his son instead.

"It's. . . Your father." Nirad started, almost scared to say the words. "He's dead."

"Chandra Suresh is dead?" Rose couldn't help but state, causing both of them to finally notice her there. Rose was too shock to say anything else as they looked to her, voice caught in her throat. Mohinder didn't have time to deal with the women right now, his father was dead.

"How?" He demanded. That was the start, Rose looked on the scene with intense silence. Suresh turned to Rose again, eyeing her with new found suspicions. "And who are you? Did you know my father?"

"No- I didn't. My name- Its Rose. At least that's the name I gave myself long ago." Rose started, not sure on how to continue. "Your father. . . well I thought he was the only one to help me with my. . . situation. Yet he wasn't answering his calls. So I came here when I learned he had a son, to get answers."

That was enough to get on. The three left the hall, Nirad trying to make sense of the death of Mohinder's father. However the doctor was having none of it.

"Driving a taxi in New York City is a very dangerous job. The wrong fare, wrong time. We may never know what really happened." Nirad was saying, as the three walked in the sudden rain. Rose scoffed as she walked nearby.

"No one usually dies when driving a taxi, usually its in a dark ally way. . ." Rose was saying, not really believing he died in a cab.

"No, I spoke to him two days ago." Mohinder looked to Rose with slight relief, knowing his father didn't die in a taxi. "He was convinced someone was following him, trying to steal his research. He died because of his theories!"

"That's Crazy!"

"Is it?" Mohinder challenged as they stopped suddenly, causing Rose to stand between them awkwardly. Nirad started to throw insults about Chandra.

"The man left his family, discredited his career, to chase wild theories halfway around the world!" Mohinder rolled his eyes and started walking off again, Rose ran to catch up. "Where are you going?!" Nirad followed hastily.

"To his apartment, to get his papers, his research! He was this close to finding the first of them. His Patient Zero, he tracked him to Queens, New York." Mohinder started up a staircase, Rose close behind before getting pushed aside as Nirad reached for him.

"Mohinder, listen to me. Your father was my colleague and my friend. A respected professor, a brilliant geneticist. But he had clearly lost touch with reality!" The two stopped and looked at each other as Rose stood awkwardly towards the bottom of the steps, still Holding an umbrella in the downpouring rain.

This was a bad time, and Rose could see that now. However if she left now the whole trip here would be a waste. And if Mohinder did have the answers she was seeking, this was the perfect place to be.

"l've followed in his footsteps. My thesis is based on his research!"

"Yes, you always wanted his approval!"

"And now you're telling me that it was all for nothing."

"I'm telling you to let go." The two argued as Rose watched on. Holding her arm with her free hand. She watched on sadly, losing a father could not have been great. However she didn't fully know how that felt.

"I need to know why he died. I need to know that it wasn't all for nothing." Mohinder paused to look down the stairs at Rose. Motioning her to step forward. "And then I need to finish what he started." He turned to go onto the apartment before Rose followed quietly behind.

Mohinder looked over the apartment with reminiscence, he noticed unrecognizable glasses on a book, picking it up to look over it. His sadness showed, and Rose waited patiently for him to get his bearings. He looked through files, his box, then went to the map, starting to pull pins out. Rose opened her mouth to speak before a ringing started behind the world map board. Mohinder turned to her and motioned her to approach quietly as the man on the other side answered the phone.

"Hello? Yeah, yeah, I'm at his place now. No, no, no, he left everything behind but his computer." The man started as Mohinder shuffled around the room quietly. Pointing to the door for Rose. "Research, the map. Yeah, let's get a team in here to bag and tag everything." The flash from the camera caught whoever it was' attention. "I gotta call you right back." Mohinder snatched New York pin as he turned around.

The two escaped out the door. Luckily evading whoever had invaded the home. "Who was that?" Rose started as they made their way through the streets again.

"I don't know, but don't look back, keep going." Mohinder kept pushing as they rushed away. Heading towards Mohinder's apartment. Once they were safe, Mohinder turned to Rose.

"So you are from America?" He asked, trying to break the ice.

"Yea I live in New York City right now. I work as a Paramedic." Rose started, with a small shrug. Finally eager to ask all the questions that have been eating at her.

"So why have you come all this way then?"

"Your thesis, and your fathers work?" Rose started shuffling something out of her pocket. "I- Well. . ." She hesitated as she pulled out a seed. Showing it to Mohinder.

"A seed?" He asked confused on what she was getting at. Rose seemed nervous.

"You promise you wont freak out?" Mohinder nodded to her words as she pulled off her glove, her palm up she looked to the doctor. Nodding to the seed in his fingers. "Then careful not to touch me, put that seed in my hand."

Mohinder dropped the seed into her palm, instantly a sprout started to form. From the seed to a flower, it bloomed to being a beautiful pink color. Rose had a small smile on her face for a bit before it fell, the rose instantly wilting and crumbling. She shuffled to put her glove back on, as she looked down to the ground.

"That's- incredible." Mohinder started, picking up the dried the leaf of the wilted flower.

"It's not as incredible as you see it now." Rose muttered. "I almost wilted a whole green house with a single touch." She stopped. Not wanting to continue with the talk.

"This is it- Everything was right- If I could get a blood sample, it would help with this all tremendously." Mohinder started shuffling around the apartment.

"Look- You can poke and prod me all you want, as long as you find a way for me to stop whatever this is." Mohinder was packing as Rose continued, watching on as he got everything he needed. "Where are you headed?" Rose noticed.

"New York City." Mohinder said tightly. "To find what really happened to my Father. You say you live there right, Lets get back to it then." He left the room, Rose following closely behind.

꧁❃❃❃꧂

"Here's my number Doctor." Rose stated thanking him again for at least clearing up a lot of her questions. "If you need me for more prodding, feel free to call." Mohinder looked at Rose with confusion.

"You're leaving?" Mohinder seemed rushed, stopping Rose from leaving. "You can't! There's so much we can learn together, about other people like you."

"I am giving you my number Doctor Suresh, however I have a life to get back to. My job will not wait forever. If you really need me. Call." Rose started, pointing a the number she just placed on the counter of the now cleaned apartment. Before the place was a mess, as if the people who were searching the apartment in India ransacked this place too.

Mohinder didn't stop her as Rose shut the door behind her. Resolved to know that someone was figuring out what was happening to her. Finally feeling as if she was going to have answers.

She left the apartment flipping open her phone. Typing that recognizable number, it started to ring.

"Rose?" The soft voice came, making the blond smile.

"Heya Peter. I'm back in New York." She paused looking over at the window. "Let go out to eat sometime, I'll catch you up."

"Of course. Maybe in a couple days?" Peter stated, pausing as if he was checking something. "How about at 6 in two days."

"I'd like that."

The Eclipse was unexpected on Rose's end. However it was quite entrancing. She watched it with fascination as she viewed it from under the table umbrella. She was waiting for Peter, who said he'd be there in a few.

She sighed, time ticking by as she watched over the Eclipse. Time passed by, hours passed. No call, no Peter. The moon had passed, the sun started to set. Rose sighed, he was not going to show.

"So much for nice guy Peter Petrelli." Rose started, crushed that she was not going to be able to share her news to him. I may not be able to trust him with this anyway. She thought to herself. Her phone rung, and she answered swiftly.

"Peter?" She said instinctively, hoping it was him on the other end. Instead came another voice.

"No, its Mohinder. Mind stopping by for a bit. I want to investigate something, and I may need your help." The Indian accent came through the phone. Rose sighed.

"Right now? Or tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow would be fine."

"Fine. I'll see you tomorrow." Rose said, not waiting for a response she closed her flip phone, putting it away. She stood from her seat. Turning quickly away as she went home to her apartment. One where she would eat alone and think.
