Chapter 3
By the next morning, well, Virgil got a motel room for the night. The blood would be too hard to clean in the alley and Virgil knew Roman would really be worried this time, so he cleaned up then. The news made him wary, but there was no way someone would know it was him. A murder report, the victim was shot in the legs multiple times and had stab wounds all over his arms. His face was so mauled, that the 'poor' victim couldn't be identified, but the residents around knew him under whatever BS name he told them. They didn't bother with blood samples so no one even knew what a monster the world was free of, all they knew was someone was murdered last night. Virgil smiled at the TV as he dried himself off from the second shower he took, one last night and one just now. All he knew now was that he could go home, free of guilt. Last night he had no regrets and he didn't know either. He made sure his stab wounds wouldn't let him bleed out. He wanted him alive when he beat him, he wanted him alive when he cut his face.
Roman was back at home, he went to sleep after thinking about everything the villain said last night. He was making breakfast when he saw the news about the murdered man and was so shocked at how badly the villain murdered him. But after thinking of what he said and what he did, maybe he did deserve it...or did he? Roman sighed, lying against the couch, confused about what to believe anymore.
Meanwhile, Virgil soon left the motel to head back home. He didn't have his hoodie on, so the scars on his arm were visible. He left his bloody things in his bag. He really wanted to get a sweater, but that means going into a store full of people, and that wasn't something he wanted. He just looked down, trying to not think about anyone looking at his arms.
Soon he arrived home, deciding to go through the front door. He knew Roman would be up but when he unlocked the door, he didn't expect what he was going to see. Roman...was crying. It was too much for him to think about what was right and wrong and it just all crashed down on him. He didn't hear the door unlock so he didn't notice Virgil saw him.
"R-Roman?!" Virgil yelped, taking a step back, unsure of what to do. He shook his head, knowing that Roman needed his help, as he went to the other.
He jumped a bit, clearly not expecting Virgil to see him. "V-Virgil?! When did you get here? I thought you were in your room" He said.
"That doesn't matter, who hurt you?" Virgil demanded to know, unaware it was him.
Roman felt embarrassed, wiping his tears away as he looked away. "N-No one, it's fine. But... where were you?" Roman asked.
Virgil sighed "I- this is why I don't listen to you. I decided I'd do something because you say I never do, so I went out- one thing led to another and I woke up with a hangover in a motel." Virgil shrugged. He looked tired enough and the story of being drunk was a pretty good excuse. "That doesn't concern me right now though, what I wanna know is what happened to you, and don't lie and say it's fine again because it's obviously not. You know you can trust me..." Virgil wanted to cringe at his own words. Pfft, yeah. He could tell him to trust him when he was hiding the fact that he was away killing people every night.
Roman was surprised, but it did make sense. When the topic of his crying was brought back up, he looked down. "It's really nothing, go get some sleep, you're tired," He muttered.
"No, this is about you-" Virgil hesitated, his voice cracked a bit. "If it's about you and how you feel, then it's important to me." He admitted, cheeks pinker from embarrassment. He didn't realize a lot of things right now, he didn't realize how close he had gotten to the other in pushing him for an answer, he didn't yet realize he still didn't have a sweater on, he didn't realize he was in love yet, but he was starting to.
Roman felt his cheeks heat up from how close he was. "V-Virgil.." He whispered, embarrassed.
"So please, enlighten me on what's troubling you so I can whoop its ass-" Virgil coughed awkwardly, backing off a bit.
Roman took a deep breath and tried to explain his problem, without context. "....What if something you've been doing for a long time, which you believed was bringing good, was actually not doing good, but bad?" Roman asked.
"Well..that's very vague, I don't uh.. If you know you were doing good, but then realized you started doing it for like, the wrong reason, I guess that would be bad?" Virgil suggested.
"Yeah sorry" Roman said. "And then you realize the person who you thought was doing the bad things, we're trying to do good?" Roman asked
Virgil's mind was instantly whirling. Part of him was screaming at how someone so fucking adorably, genuinely considerate could exist, and part of him was on red alert. He didn't know exactly what to do, but he chose to ignore the all-too-familiar feeling of paranoia. "Well, I don't know what this is about, but apologizing would be a start. I mean, look at us for instance. When I moved in for your flyer, I never thought we'd get along, ever. Our interests were and still are so different, but in the end, we both had one common goal, being able to afford a place to stay, and we worked off of that. Now we are friends and that seemed so unlikely back then. Just because my interests were different than yours didn't mean yours or mine were wrong or bad, just what it is. Different views. Once we talked through everything changed. Just talking can do a lot." Virgil felt embarrassed now, he rambled a bit too much.
Roman was amazed. "Y-Yeah..you're right Virgil..thanks," Roman said with a smile. He didn't expect such an answer, yet it did comfort him that he told him, even if it wasn't the whole situation.
"Now, keep that frown upside down because I'm turning on a Disney movie for you." Virgil sounded so awkward saying that.
Roman chuckled. "Really? Thanks..."
"Don't mention it- now what movie?" Virgil got up to grab the remote.
"How about Big Hero 6?" Roman suggested.
"That- this is why we get along." Virgil joked as he put the movie on and went to get himself some coffee.
Roman lay against the couch, hugging a pillow. As he waited for Virgil to get back, he ended up starting to fall asleep, the lack of it from overthinking the night before hitting him now as he closed his eyes, and passed out.
Virgil hummed, pulling his phone out he sat on the counter and looked up at a cafe he passed on his way here. This reasoning being there was a hiring sign, his previous job he was recently fired from and just wasn't ready to tell his roommate about because what- 'Oh I got fired btw so like, kick me out because I won't be able to pay for this soon?' He just knew if he could get a job there he wouldn't be as bad off. Virgil figured he could get the application later, for now, he jumped down and went back out to check on Roman. He softened a bit, seeing him asleep. He took a quick picture before going to his room, and grabbing his blanket. He came back out and gently placed it over the sleeping male, turning off the T.V. "Sweet dreams Roman." He murmured softly, kissing his forehead before going back to his room. He thought it was quite funny, how a villain like himself, a murderer, could fall in love with someone as lovely as Roman. He went to change, wearing a big, grey sweater and a new pair of clean black jeans. He sighed and looked at his phone. He then decided if he didn't do it now he never would so he left to go to the cafe and get a resume form.
